  1. I am getting back to work on my suburban, I had been playing with my new toy a 59 dodge truck , but back to the cable. The suburban is missing the speedo cable I have one from a 49 parts car but it turns out that the end of the casing is a little to small to fit the end of the head. So I guess there was a change in 51 -52 anyone have cable or the casing for a 52 plymouth or know where I can get one. I tried one of those aftermarket fits all cables 49-54 but that was the same as my 49 cable. Ed
  2. Being basically cheap I have a craftsman lawn tractor. That I have had from about 14 years. Its about dead but I beat the sh$t out of it. As things broke or safety devices stopped working I just removed them. I had to weld brackets to the body a few time. This is not a ad for sears in fact it was basically a piece of junk but it was simple to work on and when I did have to buy a part it was available. I think I paid about $1000. for it back when new . It is time to replace it and most likely will get another one not sure how it will hold up but the price they want for a JD is not worth thr price . I guess if I was like Tim and could get my wife to cut the grass I would need a better safer one but its either me or my son and when it stops working we just do what it take to get it running.
  3. After market units use different colors and colors on original wire diagrams do not always agree but of the 6 wires you are looking at 3 wires are going toward the front left ,right signals and to flasher. The other 3 are go to the rear left, right signals and to the stop light switch. So you should be able to figure out which is going to the signal lights and the one remaining is the one to the flasher or stoplight. Hope this makes sense after market diagram http://www40.addr.com/~merc583/mopar/p15pdf/TurnSignal.pdf
  4. I still use a old radio shack analog meter I got at a yard sale years ago. Its a good side meter with I guess a 3 or 4" scale. It does more then I understand how to use. One feature I find useful to trace out wires is a continuity switch that makes a beep when you are on the end of the wire you are tracing.
  5. Kanter has the inner and outer listed for $35.00 each http://www.kanter.com/p62-pls.html
  6. mopar parts manual gives 3 different #'s 951302 inner on long & short rod right hand thread 951303 outer on long rod left hand thread 951305 outer on short rod left hand thread This is from a 51 manual so 52 should be the same
  7. Dot 5 gets my vote I have used in 5 vehicles over the 5 or 6 years sold 2 of the cars to friends still no brake problems. However as Tod pointed out they were all in vehicles where every part of the brake system was replaced or rebuilt
  8. You cannot put a price on brakes once the car is running next important thing is stopping. I would are also replacing the hoses, brake lines and rebuild the MC. And since you have everything apart you should spend a few dollars more and replace the axle seals, grease seals and wheel bearings . I like to use Dot 5 silicone brake fluid in a new system. The whole should be less the $400. About what you would spend for dinner at a good restaurant but the brake job will last a lot longer.
  9. I have had a GPS for over a year and it works for me. I am always missing a turn or exit and it gets me back on track. It even works in bad neighborhoods I just keep going no need to ask for directions in a place I would rather not roll my window down. I do also bring a map for a back up like when my calculator stops working I can still do math with a pencil & paper
  10. Not hard to find one I have a few on a shelf and if its not a show car for points you can switch to a alternator. There is a vendor selling 6 volt alternators forget who has them maybe 5th avenue
  11. If you need money sell it for what you think is a fair price. If you are not in a rush start a little high you can always go down. But if you do sell put it back together as once someone sees it partly disassembled they will usually offer less.
  12. They are not cars you see every day I had been looking for a while. Finally found my 52 suburban about 6 months ago. So I would say if you have the money to spend get it. Not sure how many members here have them I would guess maybe a 1/2 dozen. I have one I know Tim Adams and Reg Evans have one. I met a new member the other day sunset dart who has a customized one and I guess a few other I am not aware of
