  1. With gas prices getting stupid I need to figure out what vehicle to drive to work. I have a full size truck and my 52 coronet. I’m not getting great mileage from the truck so I’ll be checking the Coronet this weekend. I know it’s not much better but anything helps.
  2. I prefer the filter to be before the fuel pump. I have a metal filter along the frame rail where it’s easily accessible.
  3. Amen to that!
  4. Thanks Keith. That’s about what I have listed plus a few I hadn’t thought of.
  5. Thanks everyone. Food for thought.
  6. I’m getting ready to start the rebuild on my spare engine. Who are some of the vendors for parts? I know Kanter sells a complete kit but I’d like to see what other options are available. Also, since I’ve never done this before can someone please list what parts should definitely be replaced. I have a pretty good idea but I don’t want to miss anything. Thanks.
  7. How many miles on the car? Have you driven it long? I’m trying to figure out what may have happened. There are certainly mechanical items that can wear on a high mileage car.
  8. The lower trim level Dodge didn’t have a rear sway bar so it’s not essential. However the handling may suffer. Try it without. You can always add it later.
  9. Great job! I’ll be watching your videos as I rebuild my 230.
  10. I’m stumped on what would cause that. Normally it’s a pretty bulletproof trans. Just wondering, how are your u-joints? Going out on a limb but you never know. I believe the M6 is the same no matter which model. I still recommend the Imperial website. All of the information is available for download. Going through the troubleshooting process may help isolate the problem. Keep us posted. I’m curious about this.
  11. I’m guessing it’s a 3/8 npt pipe plug.
  12. I have a 52 Coronet also. Post some pictures please. I got a fuel pump from rock auto. Any brand should be fine. Make sure it has an ethanol resistant diaphragm.
  13. Before making a change what’s wrong with your trans? I believe the trans will interchange. Does the donor car have fluidmatic or fluid torque? The Imperial website has troubleshooting manuals available for download. The M6 is a robust trans and most problems are external. I have the M6 in my Coronet so I’ll be glad to help you.
  14. Hold the throttle half way down before hitting the starter. This sets the fast idle cam and holds the choke closed until the engine warms.
  15. Thanks Keith! I plan on doing as much as I can. I’ll be watching your videos for help definitely.
  16. The engine is a 230. It was in a 51 Coronet that is being rodded so all the components were changed to work in the car including the fluid coupling and M6 trans. I’m saying 58 truck based on the engine number. This is a project for me to learn how to rebuild an engine. I was concerned about the torque specs being different from 52 to 58 or any internal differences.
  17. Thanks. That’s what I thought. Just checking
  18. I have a flathead out of a 58 Dodge truck that I plan to rebuild for my 52 Coronet. Are there enough differences between 52 and 58 to justify buying a service manual for the 58 truck? I’ve never rebuilt an engine before so I’m not sure if the manual for the 52 will have the correct specs. Any ideas?
  19. Do you have a shop in your area that makes leaf springs? Many years ago I needed new springs for my truck and was able to get them made far cheaper than ordering them from the manufacturer.
  20. Have you checked the trans for the governor and solenoid? Also check the air cleaner brace. Gyromatic cars will have a circuit breaker attached. If you have first gear position you have a 3 speed with the fluid coupling. I have no idea what that button is. After 70 years it’s hard to tell what previous owners have done.
  21. Good job! Keep at it and you’ll be driving it soon.
  22. Is there a first gear position on the column? Gyromatic won’t have that.
  23. If you don’t have the kick down switch and dashpot on the carb it’s probably not a Gyromatic. Check the casting number on the carb. For Gyromatic it’s a BXVES. With the 3 speed and fluid coupling it’s a BXVD-3. Coronet usually had the Gyromatic but I’m aware of one that has the 3 speed so it’s possible. I agree that the button is probably windshield washer.
  24. Whatever kit you choose make sure it contains ethanol resistant parts.
  25. Terrill Machine in Texas?
