  1. Paul if your getting fuel in your oil you should be able to smell it on the dipstick when removed and the oil will be thinner than usual. Good luck with the checks, DJ
  2. Ratrods or Not? Frame swap questions?- Yes it will fit! What to do with spares motors and some wood? Missing seats or parts? Time to get on the addition of that AC you have been wanting to do! DJ
  3. Part # ending in 913 shows in the 49 Ply. parts book and the other 804 comes up in the 50 parts book. I know that on it's own does not answer your question but I noticed some dash panels had mounting Holes to retain the ratio grille and some had welding in threaded nuts and the grill was counter sunk for four mounting Screws which is what I have/had on two 1950 Plymouths. So was the grille with holes and threaded studs for mounting from behind a 1949 Plymouth? Maybe only the earliest made late type 49 Plymouths style? The other thing I have seen was the radio grille color. Most I have seen have a greenish tint on them. Others were a flat black or just a natural metal color. I have seen that some of the gauges themselves have a greenish tint to the faces and some are a flat black. When were the colors changed? I do Not know or why. Seems the Chrysler did many Minor changes between 49 and 50 and some may have been supplier changes as Plymouths were selling fast after war! Good car and power, mileage , Price, many features compared to competitors! DJ
  4. Sure hope he is wearing a Cup if he wants more kids! DJ
  5. Ron, thanks for the motor #'s. I have in storage a box of old 46-50? Mopar parts shared with me to sell from a local hotrodder. There is one complete wiper motor with mount but he forgot which car it came from as he parted several old Mopars. When I get back to my storage I'll grab it, test it and post here if working if I can now know what it fits! Thanks again, DJ
  6. Well, one thing about this statement, the left side steer wheel placement Is the Right side! Nice car! Enjoy and updates on the usage/ repairs/questions. Could be a late production P-15 model that ran in to the 1949 year as the the P-17 and P-18 (later 1949) were not ready to sell, hence it is a P-15 but a 1949? DJ
  7. Do not be surprised to find a lump of coal in your Christmas stocking! Merry Christmas to all! DJ
  8. If I remember correctly the pertronix electronic 12 volt setup with a pertronix coil also only called for at 35 thous. spark plug gap. Sure 40 thous. would work with the hotter spark but these older style plugs for our motors can only stand so much gap? Not sure myself,so? Others running bigger spark plug gaps with some miles on long runs doing that? Like to hear about that. Thanks. DJ
  9. Beautiful work and meticulous work! DJ
  10. How long has it been since you had that much snow? I know that in Modesto, Ca. which is about 40 miles west of his location and only about 3000ft ( maybe less) lower has not seen Any snow in about 40 years that lasted more than a few seconds on the ground! In this (new climate) it is almost a miracle as compared to the last decade. On the other hand I like to visit snow for the day and come home-No snow! It has been really cold here, 30 degree overnight and 49 degree highs. Sorry for you in the REAL cold! DJ
  11. Wonder where they buy their springs? Will they give you the specs if they know them? Maybe they get them from Eaton Spring and sell for 50% more than Eaton. I know that their prices are higher than anyone else. As much as 100% more in some cases. If money is no issue, i would say give them a try and see if they work the way you want. Do they accept returns if not satisfied? Not trying to be argumentative but pretty much just the things I would think/ask. Seems there really is No perfect answer for all on this issue with old spring replacement for sure! DJ
  12. You are going to need the steering set up Before mounting the engine because exhaust manifold fit, steer column mocked up for clearance issues etc. One thing ties into the next and next, on and on. Needs to thought through before any one thing is finalized Tack weld any parts together. When everything fits and works then final welding can be done. Makes the rear end set up sound simple now doesn't it? DJ
  13. In my 2 1950 Plymouths that is the correct info. Is 54 different? I doubt it, but not sure. DJ
  14. Put it together but Do not weld the rear axle pads yet. When the engine/trans etc. are installed the check the angle of the transmission output and match the rear-end angle to that and finally weld the rear axle pads in. May require removal of the rear-end again to weld up really good, but it is the only way to make the angle right so the drive shaft does not vibrate and the u-joints will have a long life. DJ
  15. That's quite a high wire act, Not sure i would want to watch however! DJ
  16. Do not know any of the specs but my 1950 Mopar parts books show that the Chrysler front spring are different for v-8 v/s 6 cyl. and all are different from the others brands Mopar. However my interchange book says that most model ( not 8 pass./limo) Chrysler v-8 springs do interchange with v-8 springs of dodge and desoto of 49- 54 most. So they fit but spring rates?? I have read Eaton spring co. knows the specs and can and will help with a phone call. I have No personal experience however. DJ
  17. http://www.crankshaftcoalition.com/wiki/MOPAR_inline_flathead_engines Some info but confusing for sure! DJ
  18. Onions and garlic? Heck they both belong in 90% of food! Perfect to rub fresh ground garlic on as a cologne when visiting haunted houses and graveyards at night! Been a while since I have done either though. Not so good smell when sweated out on a hot day however. DJ
  19. Don Is it the smell of fresh cooked artichokes or smells coming from the rows of taco trucks?
  20. Here is where I found the frame numbers on two 1950 Plymouths. I have read on the forum that the location is on the drivers side near the center of the high point on the frame over the rear axle, but that location can vary from 1 foot forward to a foot behind the center line. They were stamped by hand and will Not be found until that area is very clean! Can be fair amount of work but the number will match the motor if the motor is still original to the car. DJ
  21. Just put that pile of small carbs in the wife's washing machine there with a couple of gallons of carb cleaner. A short cycle run, stop before the rinse, let soak overnight and finish the rinse the next morning. Post them on EBAY for sale or trade for a matched set of Big carbs. DONE! , well except for the trip to also buy the wife a New washing machine. DJ
  22. Only time I remember of hot water bottles was when we were tent camping in the late 50's at about 5000 ft. elevation, mid summer, and a aunt of mine refused to go to bed without 3 of them and water still over the last of the fire for later! Oh ya, she and her family only did that twice with our family! Twice to many! DJ
  23. The pictured one was aftermarket for Chev. v-8 as originals were Not connected through the center but only the side portion was similar and used the same bolts mounting position .I believe you are correct on the cast iron autos did Not have the side bell mounts. That 250 lb?. monster did not need them! . Like this I believe
  24. Very early heated seats?? DJ
