  1. In my book having a "Don Coatney" flathead Mopar ranks right up there with having a Roush or Shelby if you are a Ford guy! Congratulations! I never met Don in person, but he left an impression in our conversations.
  2. I've never done this so just thinking out loud. Strength, yes very important. But don't forget about stability. Sitting on the original frame, the body is very stable on the track width and wheelbase. Moving the casters to an area beneath the main body creates a shorter wheelbase and possibly track width as well. Make sure, especially when rolling around that it isn't tipsy. Think engine stand, rolling around is fine but avoid quick stops and sharp turns.
  3. Same here. Until I opened this thread( top one) I couldn't open any others. Android phone using Chrome.
  4. Welcome
  5. Welcome
  6. Always been a car guy. I had a 340 Duster, a 340 Cuda, a 440 Road Runner, a Satellite, a turbo Daytona and probably at least 25 "normal" cars over the years. After my Mom died I was looking for something to keep Dad active. He was a car guy too. We decided to buy a 50 Ford pickup to "fix up". When that fell thru he told me about a 41 Dodge Cpe that was really bad, but he thought we could fix it up. I had no idea what I was going to look at. I was picturing more of a 32 Ford than what it actually is. The look on Dad's face as we looked at it sold me on it. This is a back yard garage build. The goal was to make it run, then make it stop, then make it presentable. We did that, I am proud of that. That was 30 years ago and I am still tinkering with it. Been driving it for 29 of those years. Took a year of solid commitment to get it roadworthy. I have enjoyed it, cursed it, threatened to sell it, rod it or crush it. But mostly I've cherished it for the memories it has given me. It isn't worth anything, it isn't a show car, it is a driver, a 20 footer and perfect. For me anyway. This is a great hobby, there is room for everyone, even hacks like me. Thanks for listening and Happy motoring!
  7. If money dictates do this or the crusher? What say ye then? For some of us, let it sit till you can do it right, is not an option. He does some pretty crude stuff, even by my obviously low standards, but he is doing it. I have seen lots of cars scrapped because someone thinks they are beyond repair due to the exorbitant cost of doing things to some critics standard. I appreciate the 2K dollar rebuild as much as the next guy, but I also respect the shade tree mechanic that goes for it and learns as he goes. My Dad could do more with nothing than I will ever be able to do with much better resources. I have a lot of happy motoring miles driving something that would still be rotting alongside a barn if I had to spend big money to restore it, not for everyone I am sure. Probably wouldn't be any fun if it was. I try to do what works for me, but I also try to appreciate the entire spectrum of this hobby. Happy motoring!
  8. I signed up to stay on the mailing list. Slim chance I can make it though.
  9. Real shade tree engineering there. We do what we can with what we have. Not for everyone, but I respect it a lot. A pro could nitpick that all day long, even I saw things I think could be done differently. Like I said, not for everyone, but two thumbs up from me!
  10. Happy New Year.
  11. Dave stepped up and helped me out with a connecting rod I needed. It even arrived gift wrapped in Christmas paper. Guys like Dave make this site what it is. Thanks again Dave!
  12. Merry Christmas everyone. I hope everyone stays healthy and happy in the new year!
  13. So true Plymouthy, if I hear how "pretty" it is once a day, I hear it ten times a day. All from folks who don't have to clear it.
  14. Disapointing it is cloudy again this evening here. Saw some nice pics on line though. We got our first dump of snow, about 18", last Wednesday. I feel your pain.
  15. Welcome to the forum and great looking car.
  16. Bald Eagles. Way cool. We had a flock of birds at the feeder this morning that I had never seen before. An internet search revealed them to be Evening Grosbeaks. Not Bald Eagle cool, but cool that I had never seen one.
  17. Just me and my wife this year. Strange, yet nice. Worked around the yard and in the garage for a couple of hours this morning. Just ate a big meal of roast beef, mashed potatoes, gravy, stuffing, corn and cranberry sauce. Now watching football and perusing the internet. Thankful for where I am, who and what I have in my life. Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
  18. Looks like a winning score to me. Automotive history right there. I would be proud to own it, even if I never used it. Congratulations!
  19. That is terrible. I hope no one was hurt.
  20. Looking thru the forum and seeing posts like "Last drive of the season" and "Me and the Meadowbrook" with all the pictures makes me think of my old friend. We never met in person, but I enjoyed his friendship none the less.
  21. One more year until I retire. I hope to have time to do such things then. I would really enjoy the P15 Picnic. Just always seems to be so much going on. Hoping to free up some time this coming year for me, and then after retiring next November I hope time is not an issue anymore........... One more from yesterday..........
  22. Beautiful weather here in PA. My wife and I took about a 90 mile ride yesterday. Stopped for a couple pics on "Headache Hill". Not the last ride, because I intentionally brought her home low on gas. At least one more ride to get gas before the season ends.
