  1. Ok let me poke at it and get back to you, look for a PM.
  2. The majority of headlight rings I've run across are all plated pot metal. Stainless rings by far are not as common. The RETAINING ring is stainless in all that I've run across.
  3. I'd guess 409? Maybe 430? Just because it's stainless doesn't GARENTEE it's not magnetic. SS has a range that goes from NO magnetic attraction to full on <SANP> goes the magnet. Austenitic SS WILL Work harden.
  4. it's as high as I like to go, I believe 3200 is where the danger really starts.
  5. My 1 ton with 4.1 goes 55 to 60(ish) all day long running at 2800 RPM (via tach), but I got me some tall tires.
  6. Get your parts make up and drill holes thru and plug weld from the outside. I have SEVERAL doors I could measure for you that I've cut up for my TODD project with good access to the track.
  7. SS is "tougher" and to get the right final shape....likely a few tooling changes along the way (more $$). The way the part is as designed this would be a progressive die set up. If one cut corners one could make it cheaper (lose the return on the back) but I think I'd be noticeable to those versed.
  8. Honestly, I've been in conversations with several vendors over this exact process to make these parts as repops....the tooling involved could easily run to $25k (or more) and SS is way more PITA factor than carbon steel...likely sales don't justify the tooling in general. Why would I have access at CAT? I know at CUMMINS we can't use company tooling AT ALL.
  9. yes....and both are too stubborn to budge!
  10. Cummins has ESW's around this to not allow it on product as a general rule. Lots of people WILL do it, and they may or may not have an issue over time.
  11. correct, the drain tube is below the seal point on the cap...atmo pressure system.
  12. I can show YOU the opposite one if you want! ?
  13. glad it finally showed up...now you have s tory to tell (one of many) once the truck is done!
  14. well, my luck still hasn't found the ONE piece I need for a SS grill set yet....
  15. "Yellow" metals (brass, bronze, copper) and Zinc will actually get "eaten" by diesel on the molecular level and will plate out on fuel components like injectors and such affecting system performance. Hence at work I always have to watch out for purchasing's attempts to replace stainless parts for cheaper metals and coatings.
  16. I used Weatherhead fittings for 1/4" line on FEF.
  17. Got mine in the mail yesterday, look to the pretty close to what I've seen on old holds I've poked at. Just be careful, they come 5 to a pack and if you don't read close you get 4 packs of 5 (20) vs. 4 bumpers.....
  18. CuNi is GREAT! Just don't use it with diesel!
  19. Good research. I had cut down some taller ones to get to the 3/4" height I needed, and you can tell being soft rubber. I'll see how these fit.
  20. If I remember right these guys have a plethora of odd and unique parts that might work... https://www.restorationspecialties.com/
  21. Sorry to hear that Paul, but glad you plan on taking care of yourself. If you want to sell your projects please post them in the Classifieds section or I will have to hide/delete your thread.
  22. Young Ed and I could make Cottage Grove MINNESOTA in about 30 mins....Cottage Grove WisconSIN.....likley a few more hours (about 4). But I'm always up for a good road trip!
