  1. I think they are perfectly acceptable, and there would be few people who could say they were not original by looking into your car.
  2. WOW....You done good!!! Congrats on a very cool purchase. Keep use updated as it comes along.
  3. Yes plywood is amazingly absorbent.....
  4. I'm going to swing the other way, the miss match colors are the originals. Since the original knobs might have been produced by different vendors, and the "Mix" would vary slightly, therefore allowing them to "age" differently.
  5. Very cool. I search for old car toys now and then...even though I don't collect them. Just neat to see some of the old time stuff that has survived over the years.
  6. And that slinger was used by Ma' Mopar for several more decades....
  7. Looks real nice in there, thanks for posting up the pics too. So the Plymouth/Dodge ones are the same...or close enough.
  8. I use "Fluid Film" spray. I use the little tube to go into the lock cylinder. The push all the way to the back and start spraying as I pull it out. Never had a problem with locks freezing up with this stuff inside. You will get some on your key for a while, but after a few weeks it will clear up.
  9. Which tank did you go with Fred? I'm going to need a new tank for the desoto and have been looking at a few possibilities. Originality is not that important...function over appearance, but close is good too.
  10. How about the paxton supercharger kits Mr. Norm put on the 340 demons.... Same kind of idea as the G-P set-up. You have the "Box" for the carb so everything is pressurized and easier to balance. I'd adapt one of these before going the exhaust powered turbo set-up.
  11. Sure looks like the front track width is substantially bigger then the rear?
  12. To detail small lettering I've used modeling paint and a tooth pick.
  13. I used one of those tents years ago to store my 73 roadrunner. Worked great and took a beating by the weather....but it didn't like it when the wasps decided to start chewing on it for the fibers for there nests. Started coming apart rapidly after that.
  14. Me too....what cool car!!
  15. Glad your satisfied with them. Like you said it's better to have "something" then nothing at all. And I too could live with the color being off, and the letters being a bit faint, better then cracked, broken or repaired originals.
  16. Do a search for "wolf" or "Noah" car covers. They are the same material as the california car covers. Also try searching for a more common car, like a chevy or ford that is the same basic dimmensions. I did this with the car cover for my 68 T/C wagon. It was going to cost more then $500 for a custom cut cover for the wagon. After some research I found that a newer ford excursion was very close, so I bought a wolf car cover for $150 and it fit pretty well. Little tight in a few areas and obviously not a perfect fit, but keeps the car protected and I saved $350!!
  17. You are right about the cost of anything mopar...your going to pay more. But me personally, I would rather pay more to not have "another SBC" powered car. It's not always the cost that determines the selections.
  18. I spotted those last night as well. Took a long hard look at them and saved them to my favs for future reference. I like the idea of a set screw, compared to gluing them on. An untapped hole created during the casting process would be preferable to having to drill them yourself. Then you could tape them and use your set screw, or plug them and glue them on if that is what you desire.
  19. Looking good!! I like the delete of the spare tire well.....I was considering something like that for the Desoto.
  20. Now that is the best suggestion....Poly motors can be picked up cheap, since for most people they are not even on the radar. Guys been trying to sell a complete rebuilt 301 poly motor for a couple years on the local Craigslist...good price but no bites.
  21. Very cool find! And Welcome!! Keep us updated with info and pics as you bring the old girl back to life.
  22. Always nice to have reference pics like that. It's details like that, that often get over looked.
  23. From the before pics you've posted, to now, it's sure come a long way. Looks great regardless. Hey your driving and enjoying it...the "details" can come later.
  24. Congrats!!! I know the feeling, and hope to have Fernando doing the same thing within a year.... Hope you get your brakes fixed so you can take it around the block. Bet on that day you'll have a grin form ear to ear.
