  1. Might they not work? Could they maybe be the same OD and ID and just from a different manufacturer?
  2. Oh I thought your motor was running and then died and was in need of a rebuild. Your right it could surprise you. Make sure you take your time and lube the cylinders and rotate the motor by hand slowly before you ever try to fire it. Sure there are other "Firing a long quite flathead for the first time" protocol that I'm not aware of....
  3. Niiice....
  4. I'm sure you could pick up a good running, or even rebuilt flathead six for cheap. Heck I bought a rebuilt flathead six, complete runner with complete 3 speed manual still hooked to it with all new clutch and hardware...$650!! Had to drive 4 1/2 hours one way to get it but made for a great day.
  5. I heard a quote a while ago that went like this, "Common sense is so lacking now days that most people confuse it with genius!";) I thought it was a great line.
  6. Too funny....some engineers don't deserve the certificate on their wall. I could tell you all kinds of engineering stories from when I used to work for an underground site service company...laying all the pipe for new subdivisions. The things these "engineers" would ask us to do and build...sheesh...you could tell they had no real world practical experience.
  7. Hmmmm....I've saved it to my Favs....more money, more money...
  8. Wow you have quite an entertainment unit there.... People just don't have much common sense any more...guess it shouldn't be called "common" sense since it ain't too common nowdays.
  9. Try one of these...I'm getting one for my Cummins diesel, just sticks to the bottom of your oil pan...warm oil and a warm motor means less wear and tear from cold oil, and cold start. http://www.wolverineheater.com/
  10. Found the original threads...will post them up for others who missed this the first time round.... Initial pics.... http://www430.pair.com/p15d24/mopar_forum/showthread.php?t=15375&highlight=tree+damage Cleaning up the tree... http://www430.pair.com/p15d24/mopar_forum/showthread.php?t=15489&highlight=tree+damage Raising the roof after the damage.... http://www430.pair.com/p15d24/mopar_forum/showthread.php?t=15672&highlight=tree+damage All I can say is WOW....you've come a long way....Thumbs up!!
  11. Wow...do you have a link to the original thread showing the tree damage? Well done so far, not an easy thing to swap roofs.
  12. Yes what he said X 2....
  13. I've always used Tremclad/Rustolem to paint my floors. Buy the quart can and brush it on nice and heavy, and even a couple coats if you wish. Never had a problem with rust re-appearing after doing this. Just make sure the floor is nice and clean before applying. Nice work so far...Thumbs up!!
  14. Very Cool...I definitely enjoyed the ride!!
  15. Have you thought about swapping in a bigger flathead six, 251. 265? I know lots of guys did this back in the day since the flathead 8 was a fuel hog, and you really didn't get much more performance out of it. Them you'd still be "period" correct and could probably still use 90% of your current engine bay items. Just a thought.
  16. Yes bad wires or dirty plugs can cause all kinds of problems. I had a heck of a missfire at high RPM's on my 440...turned out the back two plug wire boots had cooked and cracked open causing them to arc and ground when at higher rpm's. So check your wires for good clean terminals and no dry and cracking wires. And pull your plugs and clean them on the wire wheel, reset your gap and stuff 'em back in the hole.
  17. Here's a link to one of the people selling the center brackets for the Fulton Visor. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=110598106321&viewitem=&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWAX%3AIT And these brackets...not sure if they would work on the Fulton Visor or not?? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/DIETRICH-SUNVISOR-STAINLESS-END-BRACKETS-GM-FULTON-/370142571783?pt=Vintage_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item562e376d07 I need all the brackets for mine as well, center and sides, but have not been able to find anyone re-popping the side "bones" yet. Still looking though.
  18. Definitely sounds like you need to find someone else to help you work on the car. This guy sounds like a clown to me.
  19. Super cool road trip!! Hope all goes well and you have a great time, and as said above...pics please.
  20. Any "safety" related upgrade is not hot rodding in my book. Yes the use of no-OEM parts and such can technically be called hot rodding but I think it's the overall build and feel of the car that ultimately designates if it's a hot rod or not.
  21. I rolled my 66 Falcon years ago. Ended up upside down in a farmers field. The car was like that for hours, then flipped back over and towed to an impound lot. Next day showed up with a fresh battery, 6 quarts of oil and a can of gas and drove it home.....
  22. Thanks for the pics there Capt!! Would love a side shot of the Desoto too... Beauty cars and I love that pic in the garage...very retro!!
  23. Thanks for the advice...the search option works well....
  24. That one has been on e-bay several times over the last few years. I think the last time it pulled close to $100K and did not meet reserve.
  25. I had never heard of a Phillips screw referred to as a "Jackson" before...that's a new one for me. Now I won't look like a total dolt if someone described a screw like that.
