Had to go bring the convertible home from the upholstery shop last Saturday.....with no new top as yet. We had to return the first one I bought to the maker as it was not a fit........was a little shy in the material department.........would not quite cover the distance needed. So they are making a replacement top, but seem kind of slow about it. I had to move the car back home so the fellow can take in some other work to make money. Once the new top arrives, will then arrange to return to the top shop. He has made me a new boot, using the old one he made several years ago for a pattern. Also has the pads and some edging mounted. Sometimes it isn't easy to get stuff accomplished.

Weather here in southwest Missouri is fine. Hit around 61 Tuesday........for today (Wed) is supposed to be maybe up to 72.......then drop into the 40s for the rest of the week. Looks like a bit of a mess where the big snows did nit. Hope it doesn't produce too many problems for our eastern members.

Have thought about making a storage box/arm rest for the front seat.........plywood covered with vinyl to match the interior. Would just have to sit there as would have to be movable when needing to fold the seat back to allow entry to rear seat.

recommended radial tires for a cranbrook'53?
BobT-47P15 replied to bluefoxamazone's topic in P15-D24 Forum
Coker is now selling a radial tire that looks like a bias ply. 2 3/4" wide white. Link to the ad: https://www.cokertire.com/coker-classic-nostalgia-radial.html I have thought about a set of those...........just can't make up my mind. About $250 per tire. Would like to hear reports from others who have tried them to see what they think of them. I could pick up a set at this year's Hershey meet and avoid shipping cost. Need to save my pennies I guess................... -
Those tanks seem to fit and work pretty well. They are, in my opinion, just plain ugly. I wish there was one made more like the original in appearance. Some I have seen for certain models of Jeep, Mustang and I think Ford pickup get close, but would have to be modified for filler neck location and placement of the hole there the float goes.

This is the place I have used for my front bumper...........but have not had any pot metal done. Happy with the bumper. Highline Plating in Cuba, Missouri http://highlineplating.webs.com/

Lately I've been using my old metal picnic basket to store various small items in the trunk. In the past, have also used my old ice chest for storage. And.....these vintage scotch plaid carriers for thermos bottles will hold some "stuff". The ice chest got kinda beat up by the tornado and needs repainting plus some repair work to the interior. Eventually it will get fixed.

Brought this home in June of 1973 ..... cost was $450...... Not running, needed paint, top and interior......plus there was no stainless trim with it. Had to find every bit of it at area salvage yards. Fortunately that could be done in the 70s around here. Does look slightly better today...............

overused Phrases and words that have lost their meaning
BobT-47P15 replied to Don Coatney's topic in Off Topic (OT)
Yep............I agree that the English language is misused/misspelled by many today. Some part of it must come from schools not placing as much emphasis on "grammar" as they did in my day. And, many people are in such a hurry while "keyboarding" (I think "typing" is now out of vogue)..........they cant capitalize, punctuate, or make paragraphs. Ah well.......... -
They've certainly built a lot of interesting "idea" cars over the years. ;And as things have progressed, we find many of their styling features have been used in everyday cars. On the other hand, it's probably just as well that some ideas never moved forward. The Chrysler K310 completed by Ghia in 1951 was a pretty neat looking vehicle.......... overused Phrases and words that have lost their meaning
BobT-47P15 replied to Don Coatney's topic in Off Topic (OT)
I think Old Skool, Hot Rodz, Kustom Carz, and all that sort of spelling was invented by the hip hoppers and rappers. Back in the 1950s when I was growing up, old school was that old building that had been around many years and had been replaced by the "new school". Acronyms are a real pain - since the people who use them know what it means.... but a stranger has no clue. Kind of like putting pictures on Facebook.............you as the poster know who the people are, but viewers have no idea if they are family or friends or what. And......many others.......... -
.......Darryl Starbird..... who has a museum and shop near Grand Lake O' The Cherokees in Oklahoma. About an hour from here in Joplin...or about an hour from Tulsa. The museum is approx. 40,000 sq feet and houses 50 cars built by him and others. Darryl has built several of those futuristic bubble top sort of cars.........plus other things that will probably not be pleasing to strictly antique auto fans, Darryl began his career back in the 50s in Wichita, KS. --- moved to the lake several years ago. He also hosts a big custom show in Tulsa. Anyway.......we went to a casino near Seneca, MO (about 20 miles from home) last night to hear a fellow we know Eddie Valen, and his band. Daryl, his wife, and another couple had also come to hear Eddie. So I wandered over and visited with Darryl for a bit....a real nice guy.....and he invited me to bring the Plymouth to a show at his museum on June 5th and 6th of this year. Will try to do that if possible. Link to a page on Darryl's place and cars........... http://www.darrylstarbird.com/showtime.htm And another one........http://www.darrylstarbird.com/ Darryl says he likes to keep busy in his shop to maintain his touch with the cars and the body work.

Boy......If he had some of them since they were fairly new, he either restored them or took excellent care of them because I didn't see any bad looking cars. Many sold for the kind of prices I see on televised auctions like Mecum and Barrett Jackson. He even had several nice professionally built street rod/customs. I don't know where all these people get all the money they spend on buying these cars....... And the list of auctions seems to be never ending. (Guess I'm just jealous.)

I think this one is still at the home of a fellow over in Kansas......have bought a few things off it. He had another, but got rid of it. Can't recall what it still had that was useful. They are indeed much harder to find now.

Don't know what part of the state these are in........googled old car salvage yards in florida. Old Gold Cars at Old Town, FL...........link to ad................http://www.oldgoldcars.com/ Here's a listing of many salvage yards in FL.......have to look to see if they say old or classic cars................ http://roadkillcustoms.com/hot-rods-rat-rods/Junk-Yards-Salvage-Yards-Auto-Recyclers.asp?m=location&l=FL#axzz3OfpykuU7 If you attend a cruise in or car show.......talk to fellows there who have been around the old car scene for a long time.....see what they know about old car salvage places.

Trouble with front seat on 48 DeSoto coupe
BobT-47P15 replied to MarcDeSoto's topic in P15-D24 Forum
Do you have any other bolts in your collection that look like they might fit?......regardless of what you think they may be for. My car is at the upholstery shop so I can't go look at the bolt in that location. -
Is that bolt too long for the application..........would a shorter one keep it from hitting other things? Just speculatilng from seeing the pictures. Looks like solder on the inside of the horn.......if so, could that be melted off and re-done more neatly?
-
Perhaps they are different years.

Have you ever drunk any of Don's coffee...........???????

I look in old garages that are open in my travels around town........I think all the old cars have pretty much disappeared here. I have driven up and down alleys sometimes.......and.......nothing. There is probably some goody somewhere I can't see in. This late 30s or early 40s Caddy limo and a GTO were sitting dust covered in an open attached garage for years, but I never stopped to inquire. Then one day 5 or 6 years ago........they were gone. No idea where to. Almost every old 50s Mopar I sold in the 1970s left town.....haven't seen a one of them since. I think this one is still around...........
-
Welll now........that's pretty darn clever and cute.
-
And, the fellow did have a few other old Mopars............ (Nice 49 Plym bumper) D24 coupe........... Chrysler sedan......... Oh I should explain --- all this stuff is at the same place as those Dodge hubcaps.
-
Ahhh........there's the P15 coupe the son in law and I cut the top off to replace his top that was mashed by a huge tree. This car has an independent front end..........independent of the rest of the car. LOL It was a convertible after we converted it........... Best thing about that old coupe was........I got a pretty darn nice original cigarette lighter (plus a couple of tail light lenses). That lighter was the nicest piece on the whole car. It survived all those years, just waiting for me to come along.
