  1. That dancing meter must be the Fred Astaire model........................lol
  2. It seems eBay sellers have the rear upper rubber mount pieces, but not the smaller piece that goes on the bottom. So.......why does no one seem to make the bottom piece? Wonder if you could slice some off the height of the top one as they appear shorter.
  3. You guys are certainly a lot of help........................ I do sometimes wear my service hat............... Or.........sometimes the complete Uniform.............
  4. These hinges with a brace have a bit more length, I think, than non brace hinges....... Or, at least they have threaded holes in them to attach the braces.
  5. There is an L shaped brace that attaches to the center hood seam with a couple small nuts/bolts............and also attaches to the brace using the holes shown it an above photo.
  6. Yes........that will fit. You will have to find a way to turn the tumbler so you can press down that little round locking button. Or you can drill it out. Then get that new tumbler and key.
  7. Don.........I think you can print pics off of these pages, if you know how or your computer will let you. Otherwise, you can send me your email address in a P M and I can try to send them in email. Bob
  8. Here's someone's attempt to make their own brace from some small, kind of square tubing......not a good job. click on link to view picture................ http://images2.snapfish.com/232323232%7Ffp538%3A7%3Enu%3D3292%3E688%3E553%3EWSNRCG%3D357942%3A%3A7432%3Anu0mrj
  9. More............ from parts manual....... Have another two or three pics, but will have to find them. Remember, the hood hinges have attaching threaded holes in them.
  10. Here are a couple shots.........of the back side as to how the channel is made............... The end, where it attaches to the hood hinges............ Back side...........holes for attaching to center brace........a couple nuts/bolts.
  11. That is an interesting application you came up with Wayne. Did you take any pictures or make a drawing of the pieces you fabricated and how they went together.......as people always seem to be looking for a better wiper motor system. I would say most people don't expose these old cars to rain any more than they have to -- like getting caught out while on a trip. I guess actually the wipers that come on a P15 are single speed.......only influenced by the vacuum pressure generated by speeding up or slowing down of the engine.
  12. Or........find a knowledgeable mechanic who knows about these old cars...........since you sound a lot like me....... I'm not much of a mechanic........... however I did read a bit about adjusting a float and actually tried adjusting mine..........which seems to be working ok at the moment. Do you have a repair/service manual for your car? Or you may be able to find a tutorial on You Tube under some heading like "B & B carburator float setting" or something similar.
  13. I have seen numerous service stickers on old cars over the last 40 years, but never did keep any. It is fun to see when the vehicle received it's last oil change and other service. And sometimes to look at the old license plate still in place. I was often surprised at the lower amount of miles on the odometers of some cars found in the junk yards in the 1970s. I guess it's because certain components of those cars were not so durable as our current cars......the engine began knocking and the car went to the salvage guy. Of course, nowadays, you can buy reproduction stickers of various kinds if you want to re-create the old look of things.
  14. Good question Andy. I probably would like it black instead of all shiny in my car. Do you know any radiator shop guys in your town to inquire?
  15. I think that somewhere I have some manual on a DVD............but, guess what,.............being an old person and not finding everything to do with a computer handy........I can't recall ever actually using it. I think I may have looked AT it once when first got it. Seemed like a good idea at the time. I don't usually take the laptop to the garage. I've never purchased a reprint manual so I can't attest to the quality. At Hershey last year, I bought a better condition original Parts Manual for (I think) $75. And that was cheaper than another one back down the way. These books have gotten higher, but are still something a person needs. Think I still have a good owner's manual too.
  16. What wiper motor did you use, Wayne............I would think most were more than one speed......probably at least two.
  17. Looks good. Where did you get it? What was the cost?
  18. Looks like one Ed...........
  19. Now......I have just sent Jessica at the company a picture of the Plymouth (or Dodge) originally posted plus the info added by Robin about the builder Western Flyer. Never know what interesting things will turn up on this forum. Anyone discovered any other interesting modifications or conversions of these old Mopar cars. As you probably know, many DeSotos were used as Skyview Cabs in big cities in the 30s and 40s. Anything else we know of? Found this extensive article about the conversions: http://www.coachbuilt.com/bui/w/waters/waters.htm Also, an article by allpar: http://www.allpar.com/squads/desoto-taxis.html
  20. I received a reply from Brewster that included the attached picture of glass topped busses they used back in that same time period. The third bus from this end is a Dodge......the others are Fords. Their message is as follows: Dear Bob, Thank you for your inquiry. I’ve attached an image of the touring vehicles used by Brewster in 1946/47. In 1946, Brewster Transport purchased 2 25-passenger bus bodies built on Dodge DD7S truck chassis from a Calgary Dodge dealer and delivered to the Western plant in Winnipeg. Over the winter of 1947/48, two more units were built on DE6 five ton truck chassis with a more luxurious ‘skyview’ glass roof seating 29-passengers. Unfortunately we do not have information on who provided/manufactured the glass roofs. Best, Jessica Jessica Sea Media Specialist Brewster Travel Canada Telephone: 403.762.7184 Email: jsea@brewster.ca It's nice that they went to the trouble to send us a reply.
  21. I think some of these old limos were used by dance bands back when..........they could put their instruments on the roof rack and seat most or all of the band. I recall musicians in the 60s and 70s using retired hearses as band vehicles since they were large enough to haul the group's (or at least the one player's) equipment.
  22. A friend who is semi=retired and still does mechanic work from his former filling station has an old Checker stretch sitting in front of his place. Not sure what he is doing to it. Guess I should take a picture and look at it. Seems to be fairly run down. It resembles this one. There are even more pictures of old stretches in this section of ebay..........http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2047675.m570.l1313.TR0.TRC4.A0.H0.Xairport+limo.TRS5&_nkw=airport+limo&ghostText=&_sacat=0
  23. There was one that looked a lot like this about 50 miles from here, back in the 1960s......was fairly run down and faded looking back then. Never did go up close to look or inquire about price. No idea where it had been used as there are no large airports near where it was located.
  24. I suppose this Dodge was a real stretch.............
