  1. Lucky, lucky. Glad you went searching and didn't leave things. All's well that ends well!
  2. Very nice looking ride! You will really enjoy it once bug removal has taken place. Lots of willing helpers on this great forum!
  3. Thanks! It’s literally a “junk yard dog” which was missing many parts when I bought it in 1976 from our local auto wrecker. Two engines, two paint jobs, and a lot of other work and elbow grease over the years brings it to today.
  4. Living in southern Alberta, Canada, I don’t often get to drive one of my old cars in January. However, so far, this has been what we call an “open” winter. Warm temperatures for us. Above freezing most days and often in to the 40’s or 50’s. Very little snow with roads very decent. I’ve had one of my old cars out quite often through November and December. I had the ‘48 Dodge D25 club coupe out today so this was my first drive of 2021. Woohoo!!
  5. Glad to see you tie down and secure the load properly. Lots of people would just throw those in the back of the truck and go.
  6. I wanted to learn to weld so I could replace the floors and rockers in my '51 Dodge D39 business coupe. I bought a second hand MIG welder from a neighbour. It was not set up for gas (argon and CO2) but had the necessary portals for this. With no gas it would spit like crazy but with the argon/CO2 being used it made a very nice weld. I did not know how to weld when I got it so enrolled in an evening welding class at the local college. Great instructor. It was eight classes of three hours for MIG and TIG welding. It was supposed to be half and half but after one session with TIG, I asked the instructor if I could go back to MIG and practice as I had a MIG welder and would never use TIG. No problem was his answer and he would check on me and a couple of other students wanting to practice MIG. It was a great course and I learned a lot. I highly recommend taking a course rather than relying on You Tube videos. Before and after pictures of the welding on my '51 Dodge. I have used the MIG welder occasionally since on a few other things as well.
  7. You can’t fix stupid.............but is was nice of you to save them from possible harm.
  8. I think each generation has nostalgia for the past and fears for the future of the next generation. This has likely been true for the last few thousand years. Nostalgia is all well and good but you have to remember the bad with the good. Think what incredible poverty and misery there was during the initial Industrial Revolution. We are now in the middle of the Digital Revolution (aka the Third Industrial Revolution) and it has brought its own problems along with a lot good. I love my cell phone, my computer (so I can use this forum), and the medical advances technology has brought just to name a few advantages of the modern day. I think the next generation is doing OK. I'm 71 and have a daughter who is 41 with a responsible job and two grandsons 14 and 12. I believe things will be alright in the future as so far my grandkids are good people and so are their friends. They will have a WHOLE lot of crap to sort out that we, of our generation, have left them with. Gotta be realistic about nostalgia.
  9. Ran when parked?
  10. I absolutely despise people who do s**t like this. I hope you find out who it is but stay safe. Stuff can be replaced but you can’t.
  11. I have used White Post for three of my cars. The use a brass sleeve, not stainless as mentioned in an earlier post. I sent the master and all wheel cylinders from my '51 Dodge D39 business coupe project to them. The wheel cylinders were so bad I could not get the pistons out even using compressed air. The cylinders came back better than new. They reuse any internal parts that are re-usable and replace everything else. All new rubber of course. They are a bit pricey but I am certain you get back a product that is better and will last far longer than anything new you buy off the shelf. Never had a problem with any master or wheel cylinders they have re-done and I highly recommend them!
  12. I don't see the point of changing to 12V if your 6V system is working well. I don't even see the point if the wiring did need replacing. Making sure you have the thick battery cables for a 6V system is important for starting as is having clean terminals throughout. A known good starter or a rebuilt one is also a plus. I have three old Mopars and sold a fourth one and all start and run well with the 6V system. No need to make work for yourself if not really necessary. Just my "two nickels worth" as we got rid of cents years ago in Canada.
  13. Looks so much better without the vinyl !!!!!
  14. No offence meant but I would save any worthwhile parts and send the rest to the crusher. Your “helper” truly screwed you.
  15. Maybe the 288 is a straight 8?? Chrysler did build straight 8’s.
  16. I've had the appropriate size battery cables made at a local battery store in town. They will do any width and length of cable you need and will provide positive or negative clamp ends. Usually done the same day and reasonably priced. I always try to support local businesses, if possible, rather than use Amazon, Ebay, etc.
  17. Totally agree! This is the best way to avoid trouble when out with the car. Another way to have a reliable car is to drive it regularly. It doesn’t have to be a lot of miles per year but just weekly or monthly drives when weather permits. Cars that just sit aren’t as reliable.
  18. I hope all goes well under the hood. Trying to get at anything to repair it could require the removal of fenders.
  19. I assume that was the Chrysler concept car onboard the doomed Andrea Doria. Pictures show it was a pretty cool car. Doubt there’s much left of it now.
  20. Agreed no contest but just old car enjoyment! Never say never. Weather here continues nice for a few more days. Had the ‘48 Dodge D25 club coupe out again today and hopefully again at least one more time. Easy to tell daylight is getting shorter. Today’s picture was taken at 2:30 and the car’s shadow is already getting long.
  21. Because coffee is a “PICK me UP.” ?
  22. Thought I was done after the last snowstorm. Weather right now is warm and unusual for December. Took the ‘48 D25 Dodge out for a spin and will likely do so again as weather is supposed to stay nice for at least a week.
  23. Personally, I would say no to fender skirts. I have never liked them on any car. They also make cleaning tires much more difficult. I have included a picture of a 1941 Chrysler business coupe with skirts. To me they detract from the car and if the car was mine, removing the fender skirts would be the first thing I did to the car.
