  1. I will try to make it down there this spring. A buddy of mine lives in Capo Beach right down the street. If I agree to help him on his '64 Chevy truck he'll let me stay for free.
  2. Gettin it over the steering shaft and shifter looks to be the hardest part! Nice wrap on the shifter stick!
  3. Working on my parking lights too. The bulb socket appears pressed into the housing from the back. The harness is enclosed in a watertight tube and fits snugly into the back of the socket. You might have to solder on the end connectors after passing the wires through the back of the socket. The housings cleaned up nicely being submerged in phosphoric acid metal prep overnight. I'm also going to try to run a separate ground wire because these will get a thick coat of paint. For the gaskets I'm going to get some foam weatherstrip tape on a roll and use that. I've seen it in 3/16" wide white foam that would work perfectly.
  4. Lookin' pretty dry over there...Just as it is here too! Where's the rain?
  5. I think this is a good idea, and what I eventually plan to do. Right now, my battery cable goes to the transmission case and everything works fine. The only other things I plan to do is install a cab ground strap and dedicated ground leads from the tail lights, head lights, and all other body-mounted accessories. I ran a ground from the windshield wiper motor last year and it improved its performance greatly.
  6. I'd get it if I could, especially since I don't need approval from anyone, but time, money, and space are the deal breakers. Charles, you taking your rig(s) to Doheny Wood next year?
  7. On a site visit for work yesterday at Branham High School in San Jose.... My usual parking spot there...Just had to take some pics!
  8. That is a shiny roof! I see the bull's body is actually an "M". Pretty cool old school logo. Thanks for the pic.
  9. Mark - get a close up of the bull! Curious as to what the text says. Dave - right, some "auto primer" I used to spot treat rust on the outside eventually rusted through again, but those areas have now been painted to match. Now working inside around the roof, inside the doors and body cavities with rust converter followed by 2 coats of por-15. This works well but requires lots of tedious labor, and it's messy. If I could, I'd dip it!
  10. The more steel lines you run, the more "trick" and simple your engine compartment looks, IMO. The only rubber connections necessary are the flex fuel line between the pump and frame line, and of course the coolant hoses. With good tools (and that's the key here), you can plumb with steel tubing all day long.
  11. Man I wish I could do mine like that! For now, it's rust converter and primer. Need to save up about 1500 just to get my drip rails fab'd and replaced!!! That tail gate...do you have more pics? I like the one with the stylized bull at the upper right...classic!
  12. Dang, these went for over $100!
  13. Nice...you ever get folks coming over from the neighborhoods just east of there?? Might want to keep a flak jacket handy...
  14. I'd like to make my own door panels using a similar plastic backing, not cardboard. One material that comes to mind is the thin plastic sheeting used for shower stalls, walk in coolers, or wall covering in a commercial food prep area. I think these come in 4x8 sheets and they would make an excellent backing for upholstery.
  15. Hank - where is that Sizzler at?? The air cleaner decal (at least on my Chevy) calls for 50-wt oil, "change every 5000 miles or oftener under extremely dusty conditions..." I got some valvoline 50 wt racing oil that seems to do the job. Also use this in the breather cap. But I do like the theory of non-detergent oil...let's explore that one some more...
  16. If the mesh goes bad it can be "re-stuffed" with coarse steel wool, stainless pot scrubber material, or the like. I haven't encountered this with a Mopar units but have had to do this with 50's GM air cleaner elements.
  17. I replaced an inner fender side spring with 2 springs between a bracket on the lower linkage shaft and the firewall. Worked out fine...
  18. I'll be lookin' forward to some nice spring weather by then, and resurrecting the truck season. All this cold foggy weather shat lately got me unmotivated.
  19. Nice - can't wait to see pics.
  20. Count me in! Thanks,
  21. Descriptions of colors are always very subjective, and may mean different things to different people depending on what mood they're in....but I agree, this is probably a better description than "Maroon". But more importantly, it's being matched from the original paint which will get you the best results.
  22. Just checked my spare hearer (a model 62) and it in fact has the bottom door only, the side doors are non-existent like ggdad's description below. Unfortunately, the bottom door is the one subject to more intense abuse from careless feet.
  23. There's not a lot of changing leaf color near the coast - you have to go further inland for that. But the colors are amazing here at this time of year in CA, especially after storms. The air is clear, the ocean is a lighter shade of blue, and the horizon line is sharp. These are along the Hearst Ranch coastline, south of Big Sur, north of San Simeon from a couple weeks ago. Another 500 mile trip in the PH!
  24. I think only the 61's have the doors. The 62 and 65 have the hinge tabs but no doors. They just left the stamped housing as it was and didn't install the doors.
