1. Sometimes the old radiator hoses get stuck badly . Take a pocket knife and slice them .
2. I recently replaced the resistor coils for the fan motor in my toyota . Six terminals and 3 coils for a multi speed fan , 12 volt of course . Those winding wires were about as thick as human hair .
3. One fairly easy check would be to pull that one valve cover and see if there is a gap on the valves for number 5 piston . There might not have been any damage done if your adjustment was recent .
4. As I understand it , you are using a wrench on one nut that is starting to round off . If you are using the box end portion of the wrench and it has many points , find a box end wrench that has a 6 point box end .
5. Some of the 3 speeds are not syncronized (sp?) . For example the 1/2 ton 1939 wasn't but the 1941 was . And 4 th gear on the 4 speed , and 3 rd gear on the 3 speed were both direct drive . Ummm .... I am the real J.Roberts but I don't mind sharing the name . :>)
6. Contact the organization that put on the get together . They might have a lost and found department .
7. Capt Fred , If your vacuum advance isn't working , that means that the diaphram probably is torn , and that means that you probably have a vacuum leak through the diaphram .
8. Another test would be to bypass your tank and line and run a line into your lawn mower gas can . Also if there was crud in your line when you were cranking , the crud might now be in your fuel pump , someone said that there is a fine screen filter in there .
9. I see them often at swap meets . Also if you have a wrecking yard in your area with older vehicles you will find them there . If someone here is parting out a car , he might have one too .
10.
It can only help and not hurt to add a relay . But if you just want to do a quick and easy test for loudness , attach a heavy wire to your best power source and touch the terminal on your siren with the other end and listen .
11. I have read that they should be slightly angled to the rear .
12. Robert , Did you use that plastic mallet for this job ? I have only used a 2 or 3 pound steel hammer on those . A couple of those lug bolts look new so perhaps the drum has been off before you got to it .
13. There is a brake shoe arc machine on Craigslist in Stockton Ca . Not mine . Look under tools , machinery . He is asking $130 , it shows some rust in the photo , made by Ammaco .
14.
33 PSI might be causing the problem . Try 28 PSI .
15. That is strange . Can you turn the motor over a little bit in case the crankshaft is in the way ? I haven't heard of that happening though . Also if you do this your timing will be off from where it was before .
16. I have seen the shafts on ebay several times . I don't know if they were for the 23 or 25 inch block .
17. I think your king pins are meant to be locked into the axle by a bolt , no movement there . And the movement would be on the other parts with the bushings . I can't remember the name of the other parts , perhaps steering knuckles .
18. Chris , If your setup is like mine on a slightly older truck ; There is no bushing in the kit to go into the axle , the bushings go into the other other parts . Unfortunately I think you need to pull your axle and bring it to a machine shop to get the slop out of the wallowed out hole . While at the machine shop , they can install the bushing in the other parts and ream then to the correct size .
19. " QUESTION: The distributor shaft has a flat 'blade' on its end. Does it go into a gear or into 90 degree slot? If there is a gear in the oil pump, is it possible to be a gear or two off? " Your distributor is in right as the engine runs . As you mentioned earlier , your timing might be a little off .
20. If you bring in your generator for testing , bring in your regulator too . Or both of your regulators .
21. I bought a lot of N.O.S. autolite breaker plates from ebay and so far everyone of them has had the grease hardened in the bearing between the top and bottom plates . The bearing doesn't have to turn very far , about 3/16 " , but these wouldn't turn at all . To free up these bearings , gently pry the top and bottom plates apart and add a little oil to the grease and work the bearing back and forth . The two plates just snap back together with thumb pressure . The top plate attaches to the arm from the vacuum advance . Moral of the story ; If you have 60 year old grease on your bearing it is now dry .
22. You would set the hand throttle and the hand choke . I read a mention about a guy back in the day that got many more years out of his battery by hand cranking every time . Electric starters and synchronized transmissions were great inventions .
23. I know that Henry's has one that is very thin and one that is very thick . I don't think the thick one ever dries completely .
