  1. Thanks, Don. My issue is that I have never seen anyone use those type of lights on anything other than hot rods . 30's Buicks, Chevys and so forth continue to use the original lights as they sit in a fender well. My light shells are quite heavy and they stress the fenders because I still have the original leaf springs. It rides really rough. Asthetically, well I don't have any concept of that either for cars or clothing. . My wife says to me ummm your'e going to wear that, or your socks don't match. JA
  2. I want to replace the bug eyes headlights on my 47 dodge pickup with Dietz or king bee lights. King Bee lights are actually taller and longer than Dietz so I like them better. Will the replacement lights look out ouf place, silly or downright ugly?
  3. Thanks, I think that I can use these. Because there are no holes in tailgaste (all holes welded up) I guess we will wing it a bit as far as vertical height from bottom hingges go.. Even though catalog says 1948 dodge (pilot house?) they look the same as what I had on my 47 WC dodge truck. Thanks, John
  4. My 1947 Dodge WC pickup is mostly together. The tailgate has no chain brackets right so I will need to fabricate them from scratch. Does anyone have a photo of one and the dimension from the center of the hole to 1. the outer (Dodge side) of the gate and 2. the distance from the center to either the hinge tube center or to the top tube center. The fabricator will only have the tailgate. Without the sides, we only have one shot at it . I have the sides, he has the tailgate so it's a tossup if it will fit. Thanks, John
  5. I have 47 dodge pickup truck Replaced FH (cracked cyl wall) with a 79 chevy V6. Even so , with that small a motor I had to replace original steering box with a 38 chevy box that would fit on top of the frame. Oytherwise the drag link would That box is an internal worm and rack design. It works ok but a mechanic told me that it was binding badly because he could not turn the wheels back and forth when the car was on the hoist. Isn't it normal that a worm will easily turn the rack but the rack won't work in reverse by trying to turn the worm. Maybe he is used to seeing rack and pinion or recirculating ball setups like on new cars. Am I correct or not? I hate to go through the steering box again because it such a bear to adjust let alone find parts for it.
  6. Hello Rich: Here is what I can make out on my dizzy ID plate.47 dodge truck WC15 Autolite Distributor p/n A243608 1CS0423A-1 Chrysler Corporation p/n 957376 I noted in your reply to Capt Fred that the letter after the 1 was G. My letter following the 1 is "C". Can that be correct? Appreciate it if you can send me a pdf to jtn8918@gmail.com. Thanks.
  7. My mistake. The nameplate on door pillar says WC. If there is a number after that it is almost invisible. Shop manual says WC15. Thanks for info. I was not aware that the 3spd and 4spd trans did not share same hole pattern on bell housing. If I can find a 3spd, most likely the mechanic can handle that. It is beyond my capability to do that myself.
  8. I have 47 dodge WC10 pickup with engine and tranny going bad. Will a three speed floor shift trans bolt in with no problems. Bolt pattern and length exactly the same. My shop manual shows 2 trannys available Where can I find a good working one? My u-joint is the spicer type, not the ball and trunion type fortunately. I haven't had any luck in finding a remanufactured 218 engine, crate or otherwise. Functionally I always start in 2nd, never granny low. Will a three speed have about the same gear ratio as the 2-3-4 gears I use now? I don't have a name yet, I just go by jroberts.
  9. I Can't rock my car enough to get rotor to turn. Which direction does rotor turn, clockwise or counterclockwise. Thanks, JA
  10. Yes indeed my coil does not have internal ballast. Because of overheating spark is about 1/2 inch to plug but color is blue-orange. I'll get a new coil with built in ballast and see how that goes. As cold weather sets in, I will know soon enough. Good comments from all!!!
  11. I have a new 12V coil in my old dodge flathead with 12 volt system. I just noticed that while working on my wipers with key on, coil became too hot to touch after about one hour. I don't think coil has built-in ballast. What can I do about that If I put a dropping resister in series (1.2 ohm ceramic) will that make car hard to start and affect performance? Thanks,
  12. Does my 47 Dodge WC truck have Chysler or Plymouth size spindles? Do I measure the drums to find out without pulling the wheel off to measure the spindle size/length. Also where can I get a dual chamber MS that will fit same as old MS. I tried one but holes didn't line up so I took it back. Thanks
  13. I've been reading the threads about OD. I know nothing about how the OD looks. Does it bolt after the trans or is it part of the trans. I saw one post saying the OD was same length as trans. Where does OD mount? I have a 47 dodge pickup and would like to either install an OD or change diff gears from 4.11 to 3:50 or so. Or, maybe I should consider a T5 trans and shorten the drive shaft. T5 trans would be my last choice because of the yoke interface with the drive shaft ends. Any pic of the OD unit? Thanks:
  14. Thanks for the info. I will hook it up that way. Filter is a spin-on type with adapter. I will recheck my In and Out on the filter adapter. I have a new oil pressure dash gauge connected with 1/8 copper tubing to the front block fitting. The original gauge read 60 psi when cold and estimated 18 when fully warmed up. Now I am seeing 50 psi cold and 5 psi hot. Not sure if my filter is connected properly or it is the gauge.
