  1. My book shows that model number for 1951 HH series . No vacuum chamber was used . My book also stops at 1951 so it is possible that that model was also used in 1952 and 1953 . My notes show that the B3 series was used in 1951 1952 1953 .
  2. I see the nuts for the hand cranks come up on ebay . There are usually several .
  3. If you can tell me the model number of your 1948 1 1/2 ton truck I will look up the answer for you .
  4. From your description there is a possibility that the needle is loose and has moved . You will need to have the gauge in your hand and try to move the needle with your fingers to find out . If the needle is loose your can probably just push it back on at the correct position . Then test with a pan of boiling water . If the capillary tube was leaking your gauge would not show any increase of temperature at all when it is operating as the ether would be all leaked out .
  5. A 5 quart jug of Pennzoil at Auto Zone = $28 . Same oil at Walmart = $18 . My neighbor the gearhead says he always buys his oil at Walmart . They have a good selection . There must be a huge markup in oil prices at the chain auto parts stores . Walmart orders big quantities at a discount but the chains can do that too .
  6. Did you let them know that you had fluid drive when you ordered and that you would need a different bearing than usual ?
  7. One wire goes to power . The other two wires go to the two terminals on the tank float .
  8. OK , I found it . 1954 Plymouth station wagon . Part number 1571684 . Anyone need it ?
  9. I have this fuel gauge with three terminals on the back , NOS . I thought that it was for the 1952 - 1953 Plymouths but the Plymouth fuel gauges that I see have only two terminals . Does anyone have a Plymouth with a gauge that has a face like this with three terminals ? The inner workings look like earlier model style .
  10. These engines have pipe threads in some places and a pipe thread is tapered . to seal a tapered pipe thread you would apply pipe joint compound or a similar thick sealant . Sometimes you can apply teflon tape also .
  11. Also one or more of the water pump bolts goes into the water jacket .
  12. If you want to find out if you have stuck valves , pull the side valve covers and have someone crank the engine over while you watch the valve stems .
  13. My springs are on the rear . These are not the original springs as my truck is 76 years old .
  14. My truck is older than yours so I can't say for sure , but my gas tank is mounted with springs on one end ( two springs ) . This is so when the truck frame flexes , there is some ' give ' and nothing breaks .
  15. Start with the easy part . Are the bulbs burnt out ? Do you have electricity at the bulb socket ? If you have power to the bulbs , see if the ground is bad by running a temporary ground . If no electricity at the bulb then check at the brake light switch for electricity . That looks like a great car .
  16. Your choice . Some think that a 160 doesn't let the engine get warm enough . If you drive in a lot of colder weather a 180 will also get you more heat to the inside of your cab from your heater faster . I run a 160 .
  17. Sometimes you can use a drill bit for measuring .
  18. What vehicle does it fit ? I bought it with a bunch of other parts . It seems to be a high beam indicator . Small red lens that unscrews with a rubber gasket underneath . Three holes in the body to allow some light to pass through the sides . The metal washer above the rubber gasket has a slight taper .
  19. Tom , Use distributor number IAP - 4001-1 when ordering parts . Cap IAO-1003 , rotor IGS - 1016B , contact set ( points ) IGP - 3028ES , condenser IG - 3927G , Breaker plate assembly IAP - 3004 R . These are all Auto-Lite part numbers . I usually find my NOS Auto-Lite parts on ebay . If you don't have any luck finding that breaker plate assembly let me know and I might be of further help . Here is one on ebay for $25 . 222446349012 He doesn't ship to UK but you might ask . If not , I can forward it to you .
  20. I use a few dabs of clear silicone glue . That works good too .
  21. Tom , My Auto-Lite catalog distributor numbers all start with letters followed by numbers , such as IGS-1107 . If you don't have any letters , I can't help . Jerry
  22. Just like Merle said . It just slips on there . If it is still stuck , use a little penetrating oil . That isn't a rivet , just a smooth post .
  23. Tom , Are you saying that the contact points are somehow fastened together ? If you just need new points you can order those by your distributor number located on the side of the distributor . I can look up most Auto-Lite point numbers from your distributor number . The best way to service the distributor is to remove it from the engine . It can go back in two ways so mark the location that the rotor is pointing before removal .
  24. I had a complete new drive shaft made up with modern u joints . My old spring perches had to be welded to the top of the Dakota rear end . Then just fresh shoes and wheel cylinders .
