  1. You might get a ' feel ' of how tight your front disk brakes actually are by jacking up the front end and spinning the tires by hand .
  2. That looks a lot like the hammertone paints that come in different colors . They sell a spray , I don't know if you can buy it in a brush on application . Some of the guys use it on their heaters .
  3. Start with the basics if you haven't already . Make sure that all of your battery terminals and cable ends are clean , bright , and tight .
  4. When the engines wore out they often just swapped in what they had that was already rebuilt .
  5. Look at your bell housing sides .
  6. I can only guess that you don't plan on pulling the ' doghouse ' as suggested , which would easily give you enough room to pull the engine and the bell housing together . I can only also assume that you have disconnected the drive shaft and removed the transmission . Now you will need to support the rear of the engine , probably with blocks of wood because the engine is supported by the rear mounts on the bell housing . Assuming the you do not want to remove your clutch and flywheel at this time , there are a couple of steel dowell pins that you must drive in part way to get the clearance needed to now remove the bell housing after removing the bolts . You also might have enough room to pull the engine and bell housing together but you would need to angle everything downward to the rear when pulling and then straighten the load back to level to get the load out . A load leveler can be used for this purpose .
  7. ... " I'm tempted to get a red top Optima battery but the original battery tray doesn't accept a 9-3/8" battery case without cutting. ..." Kendall , The 6 volt Optima will fit in your existing battery case ... diagonally . That is what I am using , but mine is held in place with a bungy strap and wrapped in an old inner tube for protection, which wouldn't look too good with your glass floor . Some of the guys who use the 6 volt optima also buy the dummy case and the optima fits diagonally inside of the case . That could ease the mounting problems IF the dummy case will fit in the existing holder .
  8. Can you tap the pin one way and then the other way until it loosens up ? With penetrating oil . You probably tried that though .
  9. On the dome light just pull the bezel and lens away from the rest of the fixture .
  10. Do you have radial tires ? They make a big difference from the old bias ply tires on the grooved roads . Welcome to the forum .
  11. A nice fall day for a drive .
  12. See ebay item number 371073307224
  13. No I don't . ebay has some Auto Lite starter field coils for sale right now but the closest numbers I see are MCH- 3005S .
  14. A little more information ; Field coil package MCH- 3005CS contains MCH- 1009C and MCH- 1010C . Field coil package MCH- 3005 ES contains MCH - 1009E and MCH- 1010E .
  15. Looking at the Auto Lite catalog ; Starter MCH- 6103 uses field coil package MCH-3005 CS . Starter MCH-6106 uses field coil package MCH-3005 ES . So there is a difference .
  16. The Auto Lite vacuum advance part number is VC 3147 for distributor number IAP 4101 1 . ( VC stands for vacuum chamber )
  17. Doc , This might be of interest to you . This 6 volt rear wiper motor was sold for Chrysler 1942 - 1948 , De Soto 1942 - 1948 , Dodge 1946 - 1948 . and Plymouth 1942 - 1948 .
  18. That nut that you are searching for might be the same thread as the nuts that hold a faucet in place in the home . A hardware store might have it .
  19. Can you take a piece of wire and tie your choke open ? That would tell you if your choke is not opening as it should .
  20. If you think that the wobble might be in the tire itself , switch tires and rims left to right and look for a change . Or put on the spare and look again . If you pull the tire and wheel and spin the axle , it might be hard to see any deflection .
  21. Also at least one of the bolts that mount the water pump to the engine goes into the water jacket . Did you seal the threads ? On the backing plate , I usually remove the plate and use sealant on both surfaces .
  22. '... I do imagine metal plate behind my P18 pump can have some holes too. Do you think it is possible? " Yes it is possible , I had one with holes on another make of car . Did you seal the gasket on the back on both sides ?
  23. I have used Permatex gasket maker for this purpose on a more modern rear end . There are other companys selling a gasket maker product too . It worked well for me , no problems .
  24. DOT 3 brake fluid mixes with water and doesn't separate . The two fluids have nothing to do with oil .
  25. Kevin , This part is 7 " long . The bearing caps are 1 1/4 " diameter , measured across the bearing caps = 3 1/8 " , 16 splines .
