  1. If your rebuild kit includes new pistons you need to wait until the machine work is done to see if you need oversize pistons . And other over sized parts .
  2. A spare master cylinder cap would be ideal . You would need to plug the very tiny vent hole in the side of the cap and drill and tap for a fitting for the tube . On mine , I used the original master cylinder cap and left it this way because I hooked up a remote fill reservoir . I can now tell at a glance if the brake fluid is low .
  3. On the mechanical temperature gauge , there is a captured nut on the tube that screws into the gland nut . The size on the captured nut is 5/8 inch O.D. and 18 threads per inch . The gland nut is the one that screws into the head with 1/2 inch pipe threads .
  4. ... " So first, the fuel gauge: the wiring diagram shows three connections on the gauge, one to the ignition and two to the sender in the tank. I have no idea what sender is fitted now, but it was working with an aftermarket fuel gauge and the vehicle is now 12V negative earth. Can I get away with the original gauge? How do I wire it? " ... You can try an inexpensive voltage reducer from 12 to 6 volts on the hot wire ( the wire to the ignition ) that goes to the gauge and see what happens . As you say there is no telling what sender is in the tank .
  5. Number 27 in this photo is " crankcase ventilator "
  6. An easy way to find the one tappet that is too loud : Start the engine and slid a feeler gauge into each slot one by one , when you get to the noisy tappet the noise will lessen . CLACk-CLACK-CLACK goes to click-click-click
  7. ... " I hadn't even noticed the lack of a tube. Would explain why the block still had some antifreeze in it. " ... I don't follow your reasoning here .
  8. ... " Draft tube in the block? Does that connect to crankcase? "... yes and yes . Think of it as a vent .
  9. Look at ebay number 321035450676 , it is expensive but you might do an ebay search for a cheaper one using " chrysler 1752623 u joint
  10. I went to Parts Voice for a search and found one at Deception Pass Motor Parts , Anacortes , Wa . 98221 360-299-2582 also one at Collectors Auto Supply . Blaine , Wa . 98230 800-414-4462 . If those don't work out I might have another place .
  11. So when did you replace the shoes ? I am glad that you found the problem .
  12. I don't have one but what is the mopar part number ? I can help look .
  13. This is what I use where the grease gun tip doesn't fit into the recess of the U-joint . The business end is a little cup and you apply some pressure so that the grease will enter the fitting . The large collar slides back so the you can put your normal grease gun tip onto the tool .
  14. Are your two front tires the same size ? If in doubt , switch them from side to side and measure again .
  15. You can tell with a drill bit .
  16. In the city that I live in there is a Hazardous Waste Collection site . No charge to the guy who brings the fluids in . Check your phone book .
  17. "... Is that rubber replaceable if you separate it? ... " There is a business called The Damper Doctor that can replace the rubber . It could be expensive .
  18. It should be fine . Some of the vehicles that have a 25 inch long block have a longer tang on the distributors . Plymouths are a 23 inch block .
  19. The distributor number that you use to order parts is IAT 4011 . It was used in 1951 Plymouth cars . Here are Auto-Lite part numbers ; cap IAT - 1033 , rotor IAU- 1016A , contact set ( points ) IGW- 3028BS , condenser IAT-3076RA . I buy my NOS Auto-Lite parts on ebay for the quality .
  20. Probably your seat isn't shutting off the gas , clean as has been described .
  21. They usually come with a carb rebuilding kit . I wonder if you can use a straight edge and a correct sized drill bit as a gauge . With todays gas the guys usually set the float a little lower than what is called for in the old books .
  22. You MIGHT find that the mounting screw locations are spaced so that the sender can fit only one way .
  23. I did the exact same thing , only mine were on the door windows of my truck .
  24. ... Now I need to have a look for these so called Motors manuals? Hmm.. ebay usually has them at a good price .
