  1. what do you mean by repair it. Has the cable broke in half or what is the situation. Please add more details. Rich Hartung
  2. Here is you real answer to your riddle: According to my MoPar streamliner catalog. The Desoto 1940 rear valance stone deflector is part number in 857053 and 858787. the 1940 plymouth is mopar nunmber 856933 and this is also for 1941 So your answer is NO for an interchange 1937-38 all four cars used the same valance. Rich Hartung Desoto1939@aol.com
  3. I have a rear gravel for my 39 Desoto. The 39 Dodge, Chrysler and desoto also used the same gravel guard but the plymouth had a different one. according t my 36-42 Desoto master parts book: S7 desoto 1940 there are two different parts numbers based on the number of the body that was used. 857053 or 858787 S8 1941 used part number 866664 if someone has the parts book for the plymouth they might beable to look up to see if the parts interchange Rich Hartung desoto1939@aol.com

  5. what is the number of the generator that is on the plate that should be attached to the outside body. This is important so we can identify the gen and to see what car or truck it was on. I am assuming that the tag has red letter which at least indicates 6 volt. If a green tag then this is a 12volt unit. Rich Hartung desoto1939@aol.com
  6. clay: if you have the dual heater then there would have been two metal pipes that will direct the water to the two heaters. There is a metal connector that screws into the bypass connection for the metal lines. Some have made the new lines from electricl conduit and used a flare fitting with the crushable fitting to make the connections. Rich Hartung desoto1939@aol.com
  7. dennis I have mopar factory accessories sheet that has the mopar factory heaters send me you link and I will scan the pictures and information. rich Hartung Desoto1939@aol.com
  8. now go test the car againto see if the issue was resolved. And report back your findings Hartung
  9. first off it looks as if you have two different carbs. The clean one has a different hole combination for the dashpot and the old one does not have the second hole and there is also a slot in the old carb where the dashpot was installed. do you have the top of both carbs becasue there is a number that is stamped into the flange and this is the model number of the carb and this is important so that you get the correct rebuild kits. Let me know the number and I can look in my books to see what kits you would need. Rich Hartung Desoto1939@aol.com
  10. No the drop in is not the same as the sealed can type. The sealed can type filter runs approx 50 - 75 dollar per filter and then you throw awy the metal can and then buy another for 50-75 dollars. The drop in style that you mentioned has a metal filter housing with a lid that bolts onto the metal body. you remove the lid and then drop in an oil filter element. These filter elements cost around 10 dollar. The metal housing canbe found on ebay and at swap meets. This is the more economical way to go. The old style metal cans have not been reproduced for several years and the cost is getting high every year becasue there are less around. either style is correct. I have an AC dropin filter. I do not like the modern day spin on filter systems. They do not look correct and I do not think they work correctly. Rich Hartung Desoto1939@aol.com
  11. Oil filters on the 39 Dodge, desoto, Chrysler and lymouth were all an optional equipment. Most were installed by the dealer just like the heater, radio and foglights. The dealer was not required to install the MoPAr canister oil filter system. They could have gotten these from any outside jobber. Some of the aftermarket oil filters were made by AC, Fram, Purolator etc. So if you can get anyone of these canister you can install it on your car without any issues when being judged. I have a gray AC oil filter unit on my 39 desoto and use the NAPA 1010 gold drop in filter. You might have to make new metal lines when you convert for the input and return lines. I do have a MoPAr original canister style that is NOS with the cream body and the red top. I also have a collection of factory option sales literature that was used onthe 39 MoPars. with some great pictures. Rich Hartung
  12. You have the old Fram PB1/2 oil canister throw awy oil fileter. Wix's did make these but they are no longer being produced. You will find NOS on Ebay but the want approx $75 or more for each one. Find yourself the old canister style that has the slip in or dropin filter. The oil filter can be purcahsed from NAPA for around $12 each but the canister is more. Look on ebay. I switched over on my 39 desoto becasue of the cost of the old style metal oil filter. 13. The correct style of fog lamps for the 39 Dodge would require the use of the seperate bulb just lik in your headlights. Sealed beam bulbs did not come into production until 1940 with the use of sealed beam headlights. Also the correct uprights for the foglamps would be the bigger style brakets. The ones that Unity sell are not the correct style but will get you by if you are judging the car. I have a 39 desoto so I am very familar with your car since the 39 desoto and 39 Dodge body are basically the same. rich Hartung Desoto1939@aol.com
  14. Have you tried to time the car with a timing light and also test what the rpms are at idle and also have you adjusted the screw that sets the idle mixture. running rich. Do you have a users and service manaul onthis car? Rich Hartung
  15. The oil pressure line should have a a rubber hose that matches the size of the metal line. The hose is used so that if the engine moves then the metal line willnot flex and then get a metal fatique spot and then the oil will run out of the line and also be pumped out while the engine is running. Rich Hartung
  16. yes you can find the NOS OLD OLD stock oil lines but remember that they will be approx 60+ years old. Iwould purchase brand new rubber lines just my suggestion. Not sure if Andy B is selling brand new lines or the old NOS oil lines. Rich Hartung
  17. Bingster: You need to get the proper oil line rubber hose asnd not the fuel line rubber hose. I have a Mopar streamliner catalog and onn the engine section in the catalog it shows the oil line hose being connected at the same location as on your car and then the metal oil line runs upto the oil pressure guage. Look in 1947 desoto oil line on ebay you will find one. Do not use the fuel line hose becasue the line is smaller on the oil line and so is the rubber hose. Just did a search on ebay and there are several brand new rubber oil line hoses starting around $18. Rich Hartung desoto1939@aol.com
  18. yes the tools are reduced via the use of the ez-pass. i have had one for 10+ years. Several years ago Ohio did not recognise the PA ezpass. The best buck in town becasue you do not have to wait inline and have extra cash on hand for tolls. But I hope you had a great time at Hershey it relly is a super huge event. I have been going for 30+ years. Rich Hartung
  19. you have the optional filter unit instead of the long by-pass tybe. if you loosen the bolt then there is a filter element that has wire mess and this is you downtube filter assembly. These were an optional equipment. So this is factory equipment. rich HArtung desoto939@aol.com,
  20. Checked my 1936-42 Master Parts book for Desoto and it is not listed in this catalog so that rules out Desoto. The number would be inthe lates thirties range. Rich Hartung desoto1939@aol.com
  21. I went to Hershey this past week and i found some pictures and documentation on how the Miller tool C3291 is used on the powerflite trans.  i posted this currently on the forum.  I know you had some information on the tool but you had stated that you could not also find any pictures of how the tool was used.  Thought this might help.

  22. Several months ago I came across a Miller factory tool C 3291. We could not find any documentation on the tool and or even pictures of the tool being used in any MoPar factory repair or service manual. While attending this years Hershey event my friend whio was also selling Desoto parts handed me a copy of the Powerflite Transmission Shop Manual. While paging throught the manual I found several pictures of how the tool is used and also the doumented way the tool was used. The tool is used to adjust the Powerflite Transmisson Kickdown front Band. I have attached some of the documentation on how the tool was used. This another reason to always check shop manuals when going to a swap meet you never know what new information might just pop up. Select the link to the Miller tool C-3291 to view the factory information. Never stop looking for documentation it is out there someplace and eventually you will find the information Rich Hartung desoto1939@aol.com Miller tool C-3291.pdf

  23. While attending this years great Hershey Swap meet and car Show I was able to purchase a great original catalog for the AIRTEX Fuel Pumps. The dates that are listed run from approximately 1930 to 1957. The catalog does cover Chrylser, DeSoto, Dodge, Dodge Trucks, Plymouth and also the other major car and truck manufacturers. This is a great resource and reference catalog for anyone looking for information on the correct fuel pump for their car or truck. The catalog has been now scanned to a PDF format and is now available. Hershey is always a great place to find the old literature for our cars and trucks. Rich HArtung Desoto1939@aol.com
  24. posting a picture of the clip would help. You might contact restoration supply in Winber PA. They carry alot of the clips and their catalog has pictures of each clip so if you can post then we might beable to point you inthe right direction. rich Hartung

I have an Autolite catalog that covers your car. This will show you all of the major electrical components and the original Autolite compoents that were originaly installed on your car.

This is the type of documentation that you will need to support your efforts to keep the car running in the future.  The cost of the Catalog is $20  and this includes shipping to your home. The catalog is scanned and put on a CD that you download and save on your computer.
