I looked in my 39 Desoto parts book and also found the same number as indicated from above. Then went to my MoPar standards pats book and found the part number 119335 and copied the page with the information. Refer to Part Type code 18-130-2 3/16 3/8-27 thread. Hope this provides everyone with the info. If anyone finds this fitting please let everyone know the company and part number and the contact info and price. I have sent and email to restoration Supply in Windber PA and also to MacMaster to see if they carry this special fitting. If they do carry the fitting I will post the information and the price. Lets all keep our fingers cross that we can find the special connector. or if anyone else finds one please post the info. Rich Hartung Oil gage Nut with slleve assembly 119335.pdf

Young ed do you have a part number for these connector and also where did you get yours. I was tryting to explaind to Marc in my reply about the ferrule at the end. even contacted several MoPar venders about the oil pressure gage and this special line end and they did not have any or even know about the special end. on the end of my metal oil line that went into the back of the gage the line had a press fitting that made a small bubble or compression fitting to seal off the hole in the back of the gage. Check your old oil gage line to see if there was a compression fitting on the end of the metal line. The flared fitting then seals the line when you screw in the connector. '48 Plymouth pedal box floor-whats supposed to be there?
desoto1939 replied to FarmerJon's topic in P15-D24 Forum
The rubber seal overs over the hole in the floorboard. you could make a metal piece to seal the hole and then put the rubber steering cover on to make it more air tight. Rich Hartung -

You are talking about the rubber seal that goes around the steering column at the floor. Might try Steele rubber or even Andy Bernbaum for a replacement or get a generic one and cut and fit to you car. Rich Hartung desoto1939@aol.com -

during my travels to Hershey and carlise I have stopped at several tool venders and have seen the welsh plug installer tool that has several flat disks that screw unto the a long road that can swivel so that you can hit the end of the long rod with a hammer to drive the welch plugs into place and set thme properly. This tool is currently on ebay for $58 Look up Freeze plug tools Rich Hartung Desoto1939@aol.com -

Use the brass flat disk style welch plugs the deep dish style are not correct. The brass will last longer than the galvanized welch plugs Rich Hartung Desoto1939@aol.com -

If you belong to a major National Club and since you have a Plymouth, then join the National Plymouth owners club, or WPC club and start to list the parts for sale. You can also list on Ebay but if you sell to much then a 1099 is generated at the end of the year and then you have to report the income so be careful with Ebay. Also select some of the real good items and go to a local car show with them and sell the items in the flea market, non reported cash and also have a flyer stating that you have extra parts and also the local clubs will also list that you have extra parts. If you live in PA then become a member of the AACA and then get a vendor spot for the Hershey event in October and sell parts there and again have a flyer with you name and contact info. There are over 8000 venders but people are always looking for parts. Also contact several of the major venders such as Ed Speigel , Andy Bernbaum Moparpro they are always looking for parts. Where do you live in PA? In june 15-19 the National Desoto club will be having their car show in Altoona, Could also contact them and maybe come to the car show with some parts and also a flyer. Many people own different cars and can pass along your info. Rich Hartung Desoto1939@aol.com I live near Valley Forge, PA.

We will be at the same location OAD7&8 Will have a National Desoto Banner hanging from our canopy tent. Rich Hartung

I went to Carlise a couple of weekends ago and found the Indestro Tool # 403. It is a very interesting hand tool that was made to workon the 1932-1937 Plymouth 6, Dodge 6, Desoto 6-8 and Chrylser 6. This is stamped in the end near the spark plug wench end and opening. The tool has holes to remoe the spark plugs, trans fill and drain plug, differential plug oil plug and the opening to use to adjust the upper brake show nut at the top of the backing plate. I picked this up for $2.00 but recent saw the same tool on Ebay for $35. So it is a great buy. The opening for the brake and the sparkplug opening do for my 39 Desoto. Rich Hartung Desoto1939@aol.com

also suggest that you go to a good auto store get a pint of their GUNK water pump lubricate and anti rusting fluid. This was an items that you would put into the radiator every fall to help keep the anti rusting agents active int he cast iron block. Antifreeze over time loses it antirusting agents so you need to keep them up as long as possible. I add a pint every fall just after going to the Hershey Swap meet. Rich Hartung desoto1939@aol.com

I noticed that you have a condenser attached to the back of the fuel gage. On my 1939 Desoto there is a brass hole at the top of my gage also for a condenser to help with the static for my radio but I do not have the condenser If you take out you fuel gage can you take some pictures of the condenser and the wire and how it is inserted into the brass hole and how the condenser is attached to the back of the fuel gage. I had my car painted in 1996 with a single state paint called Grumenmacher. It was never block or wet sanded as foa all that I know. I clay bar the car twice a year and then use a good quality paste was caranuba on the car. I am currently using the Turtle was ceramic spray on the car and that seems to give me great results with very little effort to apply and buff out. The best advice is that single stage enamel is fine for our older cars and here is the proof. Like any car you just have to maintain the paint every year with washing with a good car quality car wash product and not use regular kitchen dish soap. Regular dish soap is a grease cutter and removes all of the wax and polish. I use a generic spped spray as my lubricant with the claybar and use microfiber towels to wipe and buf out the detailer spray. Also removal all tags from the microfiber towels and drying cloths and also the washing mit. Also get your seld the egg crate insert for you car wash bucket. This prevents the accumulation for dirt and grit that was taken off the car when washing it and then settles to the bottom of the bucket. The egg crate also sit onthe bottom of the bucket but has square holes to let the grit go to the bottom and then your wash mit does not pickup the dirt particles when if goes to the bottom of the bucket. Spending money on quality products is the key to a prolonged paint surface and also keeping a cover over the car when parked in your garage. Rich Hartung Desoto1939@aol.com

Proposed gas w/ 20 percent ethanol-concerns?
desoto1939 replied to '41 Fat Bottom Girl's topic in Off Topic (OT)
Joe: Yes that might be a good price. But when the battery runs down and you are stuck in a long evacuation line and not moving and then battery then dies how do you get a quick charge? With an gas car they can come with an emergency vehicle that has some gas can and at least fill your tank and you are back on the road but with a battery powered car you will still have to sit onthe road until you have enough battery life to get you moving again and by that time the hurricane might be very close. These are all things that I feel the powers at be have not considered even the car manufacturers. The gov't is making incentives to the car companies but I feel they have not really done their investigative Quality Assurance testing and done various scenerios such as the one above. -
Proposed gas w/ 20 percent ethanol-concerns?
desoto1939 replied to '41 Fat Bottom Girl's topic in Off Topic (OT)
I am also worried about the 15% ethanol fuels. But when we went to 10% mixture we all noticed that the MPG also went down. So when we switch to 15% ethhanol what is the MPG going to be. So we get better gas prices, MAYBE, but i doubt that and we get even worse gas milage. I have read that so cars will need to go back to the dealer to have computer chips replaced so that they can function on the E15 gas. So the Gov't has not done it's homework just a real BIG BAND-AIDE to fool everone and have not addressed the real issue of gas being produced inthe USA and not having to use OPEC and other countires for gas and oil. Went to carlise this weekend on the way home on the PA Turnpike stopped at a rest stop. Noticed seeral Tesla cars parked at the charging station. We sat outside for about 15-20 minutes just to take a break and when we left the cars were still being charged again. Our topic on the road was this, We have a gas car and can pull into a fueling station and fill up our 20 gallon car in approx 5 -10 minutes max and be back on the road again. BUT with an ALL Electric car you have to wait for the charge to complete which could take longer than just getting gas. So when we have to go to all elelctric cars what is the time savings or is it being setup so that we have to spend mre money for food and drinks while waiting for the car to be recharged again. Some real big questions to be answered to the public. So at Carlise they do not have any charging stations setup around the outside parimeter of the facility. That is another bigger issue for the future, but maybe we will not have many antique venders selling parts since most of our cars can not hook upto a charging station, oh well lets ponder the future of our hobby????????????? Doug: even thought the dizzy was rebuilt take a good look at the small lead wires inside the dizzy. Check that they are tight and also no frayed insulation these are very small gage wires and they do lose the insulation at times. Also check to see if you should have a rubber insert where the breaker plate comes through the body of the dizzy. On some dizzy's they had a rubber insert that was to stop the car from going to ground also there might be a piece of brown bakelite material attached to the breaker plate at this same point to also protect from grounding. Since climbing a hill the vacuuum advance might be hitting a wire and grounding out for a second and then when you leave off the throttle the A arm comes back and does not make contact with any bare metal. Just some thoughts on the situation. Rich Hartung Desoto1939@aol.com

Marc: You state that you are changing the color of the car. So in reality it does not matter if the paint does not match the paint code onthe cowl tag. It is your car and you can chnage the color to what ever you want. Most AACA judges donot know the corect colors for our cars. They are judging the quality of the paint job but remmember that if the car di dnot come with a metal flake paint originally then you go to a metal flake paint then you will get major deductions. Basicaly the paint color must be of a color that would have been available back when the car was produced. Again you must match up the primer paint company witht he same manufactures of the top coat and follow their specific instructions. Also cars of you vintage did not use two stage paint only single stage to be correct an enamel was available. Rich Hartung Desoto1939@aol.com
