What is wrong with those people????

Check out the welcome that 1934 PE got over on the POC board. Poor fellow asked about putting a volare crossmember on his car and was handed his hat by two members. Basically calling him a fool, for wanting to modify his car.

Guess my job as a charter member of the POCO was to stir the pot a bit.

At least he know now where he doesn't want to be, he should come over and hang with us, Rebels.........Fred

Well, some people are purists and don't like to do or hear about modifications done to these classics. Just the thought of any modification is enough to make a good day into a bad day for some of those people.

Well, When my business coupe couldn't even get 75 points, at one of their national meets, is what made me decide that I was going to make it a cruiser that I could really enjoy. So it may look stock from the outside, it's 360 motor with 727 torqueflight and 3:55 rear gears, and air conditioning, will make me a happy camper. I guess they lost another one to their bias. Don't know who carla is probably don't want to, but wouldn't a trailer hitch constitute a non factory modification???????????????????????????

Makes me glad I'm still not a member of that club. My street rodder friends don't belittle me because I still have a flathead in my car, why should I put them down because they like to modify their car. To each their own.

To me a car that is restored to totally factory specs is boring. If you can't even add your own ideas and touch to your car why bother.

Greg, If you remember they did that to Norm and me, when I asked about a replacement front seat. I was told "If you car's not stock we don't want you as a member" so I'm not a member.

I am a member of the POC but do not subscribe to the "all original doctrine" (four wheel disc brakes, later model O/D, later 230 in my '41) and I most certainly do not condone insults and rude behavior but should anyone be surprised at the subject responses posted there? The POC and its hard core members have a certain philosophy that is stated on the site. To ask on that site how to install a Volare front end in a 1934 Plymouth is like going to the Vatican web site and asking for directions to the nearest Planned Parenthood office. Thank goodness there is this site and the great variety that exists on the World Wide Web. I think Gregg's approach to suggest that the poster visit here was most appropriate.

I agree 100% Jim. When you go into their forum they have the warning of "I do understand" or "I don't understand" that the POC likes all original cars more or less. They should set it up so that when you click "I do not understand" you come directly here. :D

I used to be a Club Officer (Magazine Editor) for the Ford Mk1 Consul, Zephyr, Zodiac Club in the UK.

Quite a few members were very unwelcoming to owners of modified or customised cars.

I gradually made people see that these guys were just expressing their own ways of enjoying their cars.

Also, on the selfish side, customisers tend to remove lots of parts that restorers need, thereby increasing supply.

After a while, the Club introduced a Best Custom award at some of its shows.

A small success, but I was proud of it.

Greg, I don't visit that forum these days but I took a look...Just curious, is Carla the owner of a beige Suburban wagon and a restored teardrop?

No. She has a 34 PE that she has made a number of modifications to including a newer engine. I notice in her post that she was not against modifications per se but rather radical modifications. I guess opinions might vary on where the dividing line is between one and the other.

I am too lazy to engineer a car from scratch, so I want comfort and high speed driving I have a new car. If I want to tour around back roads at a leisurely pace I have my 1933.

Not that I don't take the 33 on longer trips or onto the freeway. It just is more fun to poke along at 50 on back roads with it. So I keep it stock (mostly).

It's hard for me to believe that I have been a member of the POC for over 20 years now. However, I look at it as more of a magazine subscription. Lanny Knutson does a great job putting together the Plymouth Bulletin. As a general rule, I don't care what the national club does. I get a nice magazine every couple months and that is worth the cost to me. I have never attended a national meet, but I do understand that one has to use some standard if one is being judged for trophies. Why not use factory specs? I liked the visiting the Vatican and asking about the nearest PP analogy. I do disagree w/ their minimum points requirements, but I do understand that one has to have standards and criteria for judging

Until just this spring, I was not a member of my local region. Due to circumstances beyond my control, work scheduled the same day of regional meetings, I have only attended one regional meeting. I am undecided whether I wish to renew Spring 2009.

While I manage their website, it is obvious that it is not important to the club as they do not promote it on their bi-monthly newsletter and the number of hits is miniscule. I think they are all my own.

I offered to organise a tour, it's still going to take place even if it is just my wife and I, and was told point blank by the leadership that it was a waste of time. The newsletter included it in a list of events happening in the area, but they listed my phone number wrong, didn't list the specific starting point, or the time we are leaving.

I expected as much, and contacted most of the local car clubs as well as sending fliers to the auto parts stores in my area. I am a little nervous that it will be just my wife and I on a Saturday morning trip as we have not received any calls or e-mails inquiring about the trip. I want to believe that I have done an excellent job outlining the trip and no one needs ask me information, but it still gnaws at a guy.

I do have a membership list, and am considering sending post cards to the membership. There was an error in the newsletter, right? I'm just helping out. :)

It is my opinion that my local POC region is populated by meet, eat, and retreat types. It is really quite unfortunate. They seem to be nice enough people, but they really have no interest in reaching out. A contact phone number in the PB is hardly a good way to attract new members.

If ur looking for family.... its right here.... I wanted to join the POC, but with their rule book seemingly stuck up their wazoo.... they can take their membership with them.... anyways, I got a dodge... plymouth body, but a dodge nonetheless.... so I can't be a plymouth owner....

Well I bet I rattled their cages over at the POC forum. I expect that they will delete my message and perhaps delete me in the process. I am a memeber of the POC as well as an officer in the Golden State Region and I have never felt so ashamed to be a part of the parent orginization as I am right now. There is never a reason to attach anyone like they did that poor guy. Guess we will see what happens to me over there now. Maybe they will attach me too for my defense of the guy.

That tears it.....I was sooo undecided about chopping my 50 because it is such a clean straight car and even though I am a big chopped top fan....(chopping or helping to chop everything in sight including a volkswagon rabbit) I thought I would leave this one alone. Now I am afraid that if I don't do something drastic I will be roped in with the narrow minded errogant asses that someof these squeeker guys are.

I can't understand how someone who spends way too much money restoring a car to put on a trailer behind there new truck can even consider themself car guys anyway....cars drive not ride.

All they had to do was tell the fella he is in the wrong place and that he should read there rules and in the spirit of helping your fellow man direct him over here.

Man that stuff makes my blood boil

I think if I had a near-driveable square bodied early mopar, I'd rebuild the stock suspension, rebuild the six and enjoy the car as a local driver. I wouldn't try to restore it, but just make it OK mechanically and hit the road. I love modified cars but sub framing just isn't my thing. I know several folks on this forum have subbed cars, I'm sure they handle really good, but I wouldn't do it to my own car. Just doesn't feel right to me.

I'll play the devil's advocate here, I hadn't visited the POC board since they rebuilt it. When I jumped over there from this thread, their intro pages make it pretty clear what their interest is. Anyone who lurks a little while before posting would be sure to pick up the theme of original and restored Mopars. You can't miss it. Posting that question was bound to rile up their forum members. And besides, some of the replies were friendly, like Greg's, and some still gave some constructive info or suggestions.

I like Steve's idea: They should set it up so that when you click "I do not understand" you come directly here.

Allan, I got right in, and didn't need to login. Try this link: http://plymouthbulletin.com/smf/index.php

Take this as its intended, as I get your point of view however........

Hey Norm, If you were to drive an underpowered, solid axle car with minimal brakes and feeble handling tires on the high ways of california you would be a fool on a fools mission driving a death trap on suicide mission, which would also be endangering the lives of others. Therefore you would be would be an idiot. Just kidding of course, but I suppose if you got a response like that, you might be a bit put out as that fellow was. Regardless of the professed dogma of the website. You kinda expect that if you visit the HAMB but Flaming the guy on his first post was a bit out of character for even the most zealot rattle can or checkbook restorer.

So I suppose the next question mihght be why are we participating in a POC event? CRUSADING AGAINST THE ZEALOTS. Passive resistance, covert operations, and meeting folks from this forum who are also gonna be there. And to see the nice cars with their full flow decals on their bypass filters...........as they roll out of thier humidity controlled trailers.

Were I Britania I'd waive the rules, and give every car that showed up under is own power for a distance of more than 25 miles 15 points, and deduct 15 from every one that showed up on a trailer.

I shall now push my soap box back under the bench, till return from our mission.
