46mopar. Posted January 7, 2008 Report Posted January 7, 2008 Check this out. The only thing I don't like about the early 50 mopars was the roof line. Bringing the roof down adds to the curves. What you guys think? http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=231864 Quote
BloodyKnuckles Posted January 7, 2008 Report Posted January 7, 2008 Thanks for bringing this here. I know alot of you know me and my car. I'm a true mopar fanatic. I respect these cars but as you may know I'm not a restorer. With that being said my goal with this chop was to bring the roofline into proportion with the rest of the car and think we have succeeded. There will be plenty of updates on the H.A.M.B. if you are so inclined to check in but I won't waste the bandwidth here. BTW..I love this site and the cars all of you own. What I am doing is putting Plymouths into the eyes of the masses of GM and Ford guys who think of these cars as "ugly ducklings". Boy, They can't be more wrong! BloodyKnuckles Quote
Young Ed Posted January 7, 2008 Report Posted January 7, 2008 Don't forget us for the occasional update. I'm more of a restorer but I still like to see one less get recycled. Quote

greg g Posted January 7, 2008 Report Posted January 7, 2008 Ron, I gotta say after seeing your car in NC in Sept, I wish you had found one that wasn't as straight and solid to go under the knife. But what's done is done, Good luck with finishing it up. Keep us posted on the progress. And keep that guy with the cut off wheel away from your squeeze's DeSoto. Quote
PatS.... Posted January 7, 2008 Report Posted January 7, 2008 "Nice chop man! Hope they dont fry ya over at p15-d24!" rockabillybassman HEY!!!! C'mon...you know we don't do that here!!!!!! Like the other place everyone has an opinion, but I've never seen anyone fried here!!!! I really like the photochopped pic and the real one is looking good, too. Quote
47heaven Posted January 7, 2008 Report Posted January 7, 2008 I'm not one for chops, but 49-50 Plymouths were just plain too boxy. So on that note...chop away. Quote
Guest rockabillybassman Posted January 7, 2008 Report Posted January 7, 2008 Some cars just downright look better chopped, 50 Plymouths, Mercs and chevs all look better with a chop. Come to think of it, most any car from 49 to early 50s suits a chop. However, for every good chop there's five bad ones. The laying down of the back window and the reshaping of the B pillars are the two elements which make or break a chop. Blueskies.... it's your turn next..... Quote
Don Coatney Posted January 7, 2008 Report Posted January 7, 2008 Like the other place everyone has an opinion, but I've never seen anyone fried here. Cept Norm's Coupe:D Thanks for bringing this here.I know alot of you know me and my car. I'm a true mopar fanatic. I respect these cars but as you may know I'm not a restorer. BloodyKnuckles Ron; Once again thanks for letting me drive your car last summer. It was like driving a piece of history. I know I promised I would not let the cat out of the bag and let everyone know that you secretly wanted a real rat rod but with the slice and dice you now actually have come out of the closet and have a real rat rod. Congratulations Quote
blueskies Posted January 7, 2008 Report Posted January 7, 2008 The chop looks terrific. I think it flows really well. As someone else mentioned, for every one good chop, there is five bad ones. You've set the bar higher with your car, nice work! .... Blueskies.... it's your turn next..... Don't think I'll take the knife to my car, it's twice the work with four doors... That and it's taken me 7 years just to get it where it is. If I went for a chop, it would take another 7. I think I'd rather put the effort into a roadster and tour the country in my Plymouth in the mean time... Pete Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted January 7, 2008 Report Posted January 7, 2008 our own nighthawk (larry) is doing a 4 door D24 chop job and Volare clip..looking good a progressing right along...bit more involved with a 4 door to say the least. Quote
Guest 57plymouth Posted January 7, 2008 Report Posted January 7, 2008 Looks good Bloody!! Sure got that "rat rod" looking better! See you at AutoFair (for my punch in the gut). Quote
bob westphal Posted January 7, 2008 Report Posted January 7, 2008 Chop away!! I used to own a chopped P-15 two door sedan. Chopped is really cool if done right!! Quote
BloodyKnuckles Posted January 7, 2008 Report Posted January 7, 2008 Thanks for all the kind words. I more than appreciate it. BloodyKnuckles Quote
BloodyKnuckles Posted January 25, 2008 Report Posted January 25, 2008 A few updated pics; I also ordered the front and rear window rubber and all the window channel fuzzies from a company called "Weatherstrip Special". He had everything I needed and also cross referenced with Chevy because they use the same size and amount as mine but they have a chrome bead which I like...also it was cheaper by a total of $60. Ed was great to work with. I will keep you posted. BloodyKnuckles Quote
Dennis Hemingway Posted January 25, 2008 Report Posted January 25, 2008 That is looking good!!!!! Dennis:cool: Quote
47heaven Posted January 26, 2008 Report Posted January 26, 2008 Wow...it's too bad you guys couldn't angle the centerpost like on the P15's. Below is a pic of my buddy's '50 Ford chop. It had the same straight centerpost, but the guy that chopped it fabricated the post to slant. Quote
jd52cranbrook Posted January 26, 2008 Report Posted January 26, 2008 Looks awesome Knuckles,,,,,,, Quote
49DODGEBOY Posted January 26, 2008 Report Posted January 26, 2008 Bloody, thats lookin good, I,m really luvin it, very close to the same lines as my '49 Dodge except I have the slanted pillers keep the pics comin, I,ll be watching at both places.. Quote
David Maxwell Posted January 26, 2008 Report Posted January 26, 2008 .., you have to admire a job well done! That's nice work and the car does look sweet! Enjoy! Should be lots of fun to cruise. Quote
Jims50chrysler Posted January 26, 2008 Report Posted January 26, 2008 Nice work bloody knuckles. These cars certainly do look better chopped (IMHO)....it will be a few years before I can even start thinking about doing mine although I am drawn to your thread like steel to a magnet. Keep up the good work Jim Quote
jd52cranbrook Posted January 26, 2008 Report Posted January 26, 2008 Wonder how a 4 door would look,,,,,, maybe shave the door handles,, hmmmm wish I had a 2 door. Quote
daddyo23 Posted January 26, 2008 Report Posted January 26, 2008 Bloody, looks nice. Very clean job. Everyone has an opinion about what should be done with these cars, but I say, if you can do it right, go for it. JD, I was thinking the same thing but my p15 4-slammer looks good to me the way she sits for now. But, it may drop a couple inches...... Wayne P. Quote
