Kind of Tube valve sleeve searched

Recommended Posts

While repairing a flat tire, my mechanic found remnants of a disintegrated rubber (?) part, of which I know neither the name nor the appearance.

It is different from this Valve Stem Cover (see foto) made of metal.

I guess it was supposed to be put over the valve of the tire tube and pushed through the rim with it. It should probably prevent migration of the tube. My other wheels don´t have this part but the metal variety only.

Any hints??

I used short lengths of fuel hose over my valve stems to do what those chrome covers do, might be what you are seeing?  Someone lost a cover so substituted some hose.

Been a lot of years since seen them .... iirc they were used as a adapter for a large hole rim for a standard sized valve stem  .... so the valve stem could not move around in the larger hole? .... I could be wrong, years since I've used them.

Currently Andy Bernbaum is also selling some of the metal adapters that has been shown inthe original posters lisiting.  These adapters were used when you had the full wheel cover on your rim and were used to fill the hole in the hubcap to stop the hubcap from moving and cutting into the rubber air valve.

That is exactly the issue I had.

I located the Tire valve Stem Protectors on Andy Bernbaums webpage and catalog.  Here is the information:

So if your hubcaps are moving and bending your rubber valvestem get these to help solve the problem.
