I have a few sets of goggles. flip up style for oxy/acet. welding.  These are nice, rectangular lens with my diopter correction lens installed so not to fog my glasses on those damp days.   To sum this up, the straps on these goggles are at best made of soft cheese and they lose their elasticity fairly quickly.  To correct this, I use surgical tubing for a soft comfortable fit and these last well.  One set has been converted for over 10 years and my main go to goggles.  While putzing in the shop I found the other two pair of goggles and upgraded them with surgical tubing.  Just post this as an alternative the is a very long term solution.   Just cut to length, make a slice of the ends for a leader, pull in place, loop back through for a non slip lock.   If anyone would like a pic let me know.

Actually gives me a idea. I acquired a DR stethoscope  ..... from a yard sale or somewhere .... no idea.

They are very sensitive, if you tap on the listening piece with your finger it almost blows your ear drums out ...... works really good.

But, they are missing one of the rubber ear bud pieces, very uncomfortable possibly dangerous sticking the metal tube in ear ..... I always hold it with one hand away from the ear.

I looked online for new ear pieces for this model, they were between $45-$60 .... I wonder if I could not rig something up with surgical tubing.

I imagine I could go to amazon & find a automotive stethoscope for $20 ...... hard to justify $50 for 2 ear buds.

Try "vacuum caps" from Dormann for your stethoscope.  Several different assortments, vinyl or rubber.  "Help" aisle at your local box store.

That is a excellent idea, they even have the proper shape.    Thank you very much for sharing.

Once you mention it it seems like such a obvious solution .... I never thought of it.

actually this is the tubing out of one of those compact water hoses...they do good till frayed then they get an aneurism.   Salvaged the inner liner and it has paid dividends.  Maybe you have one of these hoses that have seen better days.

I did this myself because I have the same goggles Plymouthy shows in the foreground of his photo.

I did not have quick access to surgical tubing (Our pharmacy is over half a mile away) but what I did have is silicone rubber airline that I bought for my aquariums.

after repairing and cleaning my goggles I did the task at hand and decided to eliminate a hole for the aerial.  I never listen to radio so no need for one...had it been originally drilled correct place I would have kept it in play.  It was about 7 inches too far forward.  I can hide one and likely what I may do.  Glad to have processed this as I believe this is the last of the proposed and known welding to be done on this vehicle.

shape and jigged a plug, heat sinking wet rags to check against warping held with magnet, full perimeter weld, little grinding, skimmed and primed....
