dgrinnan Posted August 10, 2022 Report Posted August 10, 2022 Can you install modern tubeless tires on original 1947 1/2 ton truck rims? Will they hold air or do you need an innertubes? Quote
Veemoney Posted August 10, 2022 Report Posted August 10, 2022 I have Goodyear Wrangler SRAs on my 47WC original truck rims with no tubes and no issues. Been running this set for a few years. Radials really make a big difference on the handling of the truck compared to the bias ply tires. 1 Quote
John-T-53 Posted August 10, 2022 Report Posted August 10, 2022 The old rims are usually riveted, but as long as no corrosion inside they should hold air no problem without tubes. Quote
dgrinnan Posted August 10, 2022 Author Report Posted August 10, 2022 Thanks. I have whitewalls right now but they are starting to dry rot and replacement white walls are through the roof now in price. I am considering putting on some new tires and painting on white walls. Quote
48Dodger Posted August 11, 2022 Report Posted August 11, 2022 You could use falsies.....whitewall portawall toppers 48D Quote
Tooljunkie Posted August 15, 2022 Report Posted August 15, 2022 A few guys used the portawalls. But seems they are using paint now. Theres a few youtube videos about painted whitewalls. Quote
PT81PlymouthPickup Posted August 15, 2022 Report Posted August 15, 2022 Just my opinionated opinion, but whitewalls look better on cars. I prefer black walls on trucks. Plus, I can't imagine painting a tire would hold up very well? 2 Quote
kencombs Posted August 15, 2022 Report Posted August 15, 2022 Even though I was young in the whitewall era, I never really liked them. well, except for the really narrow ones that didn't touch the wheel. They were popular about the same time as really narrow men's ties. Otherwise I always mounted the inside. 1 Quote
Los_Control Posted August 15, 2022 Report Posted August 15, 2022 Yeah the tires are certainly a individual choice of the driver. .....I love the look of this truck, but it is not for me. While I have a 1949 1/2 ton, just saying I want to try to make it look more like a big truck ..... While still being a pickup. There is simply nothing wrong with either choice .... it is up to the owner & what they want to build. 1 Quote
dgrinnan Posted August 16, 2022 Author Report Posted August 16, 2022 It is hard to mess up the look of these iconic trucks. I am going for the look of the black truck. Once I have mine road ready it is heading to paint. Still on the fence if I am going to paint it solid black or red with black fenders like the picture of the big truck. Quote

dgrinnan Posted August 16, 2022 Author Report Posted August 16, 2022 Here is my other truck. Tells you where I stand. ? 1 Quote
Los_Control Posted August 16, 2022 Report Posted August 16, 2022 I always loved the 54, 1 year only grill .... beautiful truck. Quote
dgrinnan Posted August 16, 2022 Author Report Posted August 16, 2022 I have a lot of fun with it but can't wait to get the 47 Dodge WC on the road. I love the art deco trucks. 47 was the last year before they went to the new design. Quote

dgrinnan Posted August 18, 2022 Author Report Posted August 18, 2022 I do like your truck. that is the color scheme I am leaning toward. Quote
Dodgeed Posted August 19, 2022 Report Posted August 19, 2022 (edited) I'm a fan of the whitewalls also. Individual choice I guess. I know that back in the day, the farmers who had these trucks didn't have whitewalls; they were just farm work trucks, dirty and banged up. But, now, for me, this one anyway, is not a work truck, just a fun toy. Edited August 19, 2022 by Dodgeed 2 Quote
