BobDeSoto Posted July 10, 2020 Report Posted July 10, 2020 Always fun to talk about which oil is best! I've been watching videos by Vice Grip Garage. He recommends using diesel oil in the crankcase. Quote
Sniper Posted July 10, 2020 Report Posted July 10, 2020 Modern spec oil is fine for our engines. With the weak valve springs we have it's really not an issue. https://www.hotrod.com/articles/0702sr-engine-oil/ Quote

milo9rat Posted July 11, 2020 Report Posted July 11, 2020 (edited) I was told to stay away from diesel oil because it's made for low rpm engines... Don't know if it matters and I don't use it in my cars.... Edited July 11, 2020 by milo9rat Quote
DJ194950 Posted July 11, 2020 Report Posted July 11, 2020 I have worked for the two largest nationwide homeowner/construction equipment rental companies in the US. Both ran the same diesel spec-ed motor oil in everything. From the cars/trucks/lawnmowers/ D-10 dozers/ delivery lowboy diesel trucks/service trucks. 10-40wt oil for all. Where is the problem? As often said before -to each his own. DJ Quote

Don't know if it matters and I don't use it in my cars.... We have low-rpm engines........ ? Shell's Rotella T4 15W-40 is a popular (diesel) oil for many non-diesel applications. I'm probably going to go that direction at next oil change. Edited July 11, 2020 by Sam Buchanan 1 Quote
greg g Posted July 12, 2020 Report Posted July 12, 2020 After a rebuild of a 56 p28 230, I have 45k plus on it using 15 40 diesel oil. Mostly the all fleet brand from tractor supply.last two I had rotella put in because I had a shop do it instead of dyi. No zinc, no additives change interval is around 5 k. Same oil pressure today as fresh. I believe next change will include the 5th filter element. 1 Quote
