Tim Van Pelt Posted May 29, 2018 Report Posted May 29, 2018 In building my single seat car using a 230 I need to lower the fan. Was there a double groove pulley and a fan carrier ever produced for a special application? Or has anyone ever done such a modification. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted May 29, 2018 Report Posted May 29, 2018 the fan is part of the water pump and it's configuration is pretty much set in stone. Setting the fan lower or offset to the side and building a pulley and mounting system for the application you speak of I have never seen but one that you could do if so inclined and truly need to. Sounds like an interesting situation, and yes, I understand the reason to doing it this way...an electric fan would be so out of place and not match the build era. Quote
greg g Posted May 29, 2018 Report Posted May 29, 2018 Honda radiator, Honda fan with shroud. Know its not the look you are going for, but would get you going. Mount it front side and out of sight. That thing will be fast enough you won't need a fan... Quote
dpollo Posted May 29, 2018 Report Posted May 29, 2018 If additional engine length is not an issue, the 57 58 and 59 Plymouth and Dodge 6 cylinder engine used an adapter and pump which significantly lowered the pump and fan blades.. 1 Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted May 29, 2018 Report Posted May 29, 2018 I can see why this was such as the trend to lower hood lines was the prevailing styling trend...surprised they did not return to updraft carbs... Quote

greg g Posted May 29, 2018 Report Posted May 29, 2018 Must be the 59 Dodge and Plymouth cars to accommodate the lower hoods. Maybe 57/58 also. My 56 engine pump fan is in the same position you engine has. Hood line wasn't a factor on trucks, vans etc. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted May 29, 2018 Report Posted May 29, 2018 the trend to lowering the hood line was started with the 53 model...as for trucks and van applications...yes it is not needed, but across the board, the cost to produce two different setups was usually something Chrysler avoided Quote
Tim Van Pelt Posted May 29, 2018 Author Report Posted May 29, 2018 So I,m new to this mopar flat six thing. Can I go to my local NAPA store and find a waterpump? Quote
greg g Posted May 29, 2018 Report Posted May 29, 2018 You might want to call Cardone and see if the remanufacture for 59 specifically. If the do than any parts place should be able to order one up. Also give Vintage Power Wagons a call, they might have some one with knowledge specific to that style. Quote
Tim Van Pelt Posted May 29, 2018 Author Report Posted May 29, 2018 I'm striking out finding a late 50's 230 car water pump. My local napa doesnt have them, Andy Bernbaum says theres not enough demand for them for him to sell them. Any other options anyone can help me with? Quote
dpollo Posted May 29, 2018 Report Posted May 29, 2018 You will need the adapter casting 57 to 59 passenger car, as well as the crankshaft pulley and fan pulley. Find someone who has the complete setup. The timing cover 's timing pointer is different too. I have all these pieces, but western Canada is a long way to ship anything into the USA even though I can see into Washington State from where I live on Vancouver Island. Quote

kencombs Posted May 29, 2018 Report Posted May 29, 2018 You might find a connection to that part on this forum: http://www.forwardlook.net/forums/category-view.asp Quote
Grdpa's 50 Dodge Posted May 30, 2018 Report Posted May 30, 2018 It is my understanding that Car Quest was bought out by Advance. At least here it was, and Car Quest store is now vacant. Quote
matt167 Posted May 30, 2018 Report Posted May 30, 2018 Carquest itself was bought by Advance around 2008. But Carquest independent franchises exist and some of the product lines are different. Quote

So am I correct here, I would need 1---59 car lowered water pump, 2--crank and water pump pulley, 3-- timing pointer? Edited May 30, 2018 by Tim Van Pelt Quote
dpollo Posted May 30, 2018 Report Posted May 30, 2018 You are correct. The adapter casting and the pump are two separate pieces. The timing pointer and the marks on the pulley are in a different location. Quote
bones44 Posted May 30, 2018 Report Posted May 30, 2018 Is this what you are looking for? If so send me a PM. Quote

You'll also need a generator pulley to go along with the narrow crank and waterpump pulleys. Marty Quote
Flatie46 Posted May 31, 2018 Report Posted May 31, 2018 Might want to check over on The Forward Look forum for these parts. Quote
dpollo Posted May 31, 2018 Report Posted May 31, 2018 Bones 44 seems to have all that you need except the fan pulley which would not be hard to find (around my place). Quote
