teched Posted July 6, 2015 Report Posted July 6, 2015 Hello! My name is Ed and I am looking at a 1947 or 48 Plymouth 2 door. It says special deluxe, but when I look it up on bing images there are several different body styles. 2 door sedan, Business Coupe another 2dr thing. I know what I saw but doen't look like the pictures I see online. Can someone explain the models and theie differences. Thanks Quote
46Ply Posted July 6, 2015 Report Posted July 6, 2015 Short answer: If it's a two door, it's either a Club Coupe or a Business Coupe, and there's a rare chance it could be a convertible. The only other option would be a 4 door sedan. The Club Coupe has a back seat, and the Business Coupe does not, but has a larger trunk area. Quote

Plymouthy Adams Posted July 7, 2015 Report Posted July 7, 2015 as Don said,,the 2 door sedan is a possibility..and to me the better looking of the P15's followed secondly by the business coupe... Quote
greg g Posted July 7, 2015 Report Posted July 7, 2015 I believe the 2 door sedan was the least produced body style. Very nice lines in MHO. Quote
46Ply Posted July 7, 2015 Report Posted July 7, 2015 Yea, that's a nice looking 2 door. Don't know why I forgot that. Here's another reference right here on this site: http://p15-d24.com/page/p15d24/reference/p15_reference.html Quote
greg g Posted July 7, 2015 Report Posted July 7, 2015 Hey Plymouthy, that pic is a Dodge......Woulda been prettier had they used the coupe dpprs with the angled B pillar but they didn't. Quote
Don Coatney Posted July 7, 2015 Report Posted July 7, 2015 Looks like snow tires on the front and back? Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted July 7, 2015 Report Posted July 7, 2015 (edited) Hey Plymouthy, that pic is a Dodge......Woulda been prettier had they used the coupe dpprs with the angled B pillar but they didn't. I just grabbed a two door off the internet and it was listed under Plymouth....sorry I did not look at anything but the basic two doors on the sedan body....while the slanted doors would be stylish..it would interfere with the utility of the sedan and easy in and out and probably the why it was not used..as far as the tires on the green machine..I believe all the pics/drawings back in that day used these tire sidewall profiles....and I still say the hubcaps are too long in print to be Dodge but that of Plymouth...cannot read though due to small picture size.. I should have gone out and snapped a shot of my own two door P15 sedan Edited July 7, 2015 by Plymouthy Adams Quote
greg g Posted July 7, 2015 Report Posted July 7, 2015 It crack me up sometimes when you look at the period advertising of the time that the ones where the images are illustrated instead of drawn of photographed always looked longer lower wider and leaning into the job. The illustrators of the time took some artistic liberties that I am pretty sure the designers would have done if the engineers, and bean counters would have let them. This one of the 42 Desoto really pushes the boundries. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted July 7, 2015 Report Posted July 7, 2015 (edited) that blue beast looks like a 'toon' car where is Jessica and Roger when you need them....? talk about artistic liberties...photoshop Jessica Rabbit beside that car and sell a million by next week... Ulu Posted July 7, 2015 Report Posted July 7, 2015 ....and I still say the hubcaps are too long in print to be Dodge but that of Plymouth...cannot read though due to small picture size.. They're not letters. The caps have the same stylized ship logo that appears on the plastic hood ornament. Quote

Did you ever see the article (satire) "Bulgemobiles" from the National Lampoon? It was the same style art done on 1958 style cars. Hilarious! I was looking at the wrong photo. Anyhow Plymouth caps don't have letters, but that maroon car certainly has US style Dodge fenders. I can't tell what the caps on it say either, but they normally would say DODGE in a red block, like this one. Quote

John Reddie Posted July 8, 2015 Report Posted July 8, 2015 Great looking cars. My father bought a '46 two door sedan in '48 and drove it until "61. John R 1 Quote
teched Posted July 9, 2015 Author Report Posted July 9, 2015 Thanks for the reply. I pretty sure its a regular coupe, not a 2 door sedan and defiantly not a business coupe. The engine is seized, body rough with Bondo. Interior looks to be complete with only a few rips and tears. I couldn't get under the car as its parked about a foot from another car on both sides. Tires are flat, but Its on a gravel drive way and not in the mud. The guys wants to trade for my 1959 MGA project. I value my MG at $1200-1500. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted July 9, 2015 Report Posted July 9, 2015 keep the MGA and get this also..a nice MGA is very hard to come by these days.. Quote
