Just got my new Roberts outside door handles. Tried to put them on and it seems as if the shaft is 1 inch or more short. Roberts is closed for the day now, but checked the invoice and says T165 for 41-53 DT  not sure If I got something wrong with my door or they sent the wrong part or unit was built wrong.  Anyone had a similar problem ?  some other part I'm missing?    I can see a square hole that it fits in just not long enough to get to it.

Just measured one off a b3b ... 3-5/8"

Hope that helps

Just got off the phone with Roberts  they said oh yes for some application the handle is too short and that I should just weld an extension on to the shaft.  Great  not real happy  offered refund but then I'm without anything, guess they could have listed a note in the catalog Hey, buy are handles they don't work, but they are close for 109.00   at 3 inches mine are real short of the lock mech  and so far we have one person Brent 3b who said theirs measures 3 5/8  any other lengths that people have please let me know only want to do this once.....for a change.

DO BE CAREFUL if you weld these to sink the heat near the handle shaft...you do not want any surprises here I assure you...it would have been much easier to have made the handle shafts a bit longer and have the customer trim to length that have to add length by welding...hindsight being 20/20 at work here..

can't speak of truck here...my 58 has a completely different style latch...but for the cars of the general time frame..the Dodge doors on the few I have owned generally have the longest shafts and if transferring tot he Plymouth, (ideal as some are stainless exterior handles) cutting them to length is a necessity...HOWEVER...as I have yet to do a retro to my 51 and 52 Plymouths of the era I can only speak of them too long but there is another similar problem..there is a rounded section just above the center line of the square shaft..so welding may be in my future also if just to square them up once cut..never seems to be one simple answer..

have you looked for old ones instead of new?  They ARE out there, on Epay or place a want add in the classifieds section maybe...

Return them and find the correct handles.

They should know what they sell. Telling you to weld them..... :D  Ha Ha.

The shaft on all three handles on the woodie are 3-3/8", measured from the inside of the handle to end of shaft.   Truck is a 1949 B1B 108.  Of course the door frames are wooden and may differ from the metal doors.  But I can't see why they would have used different hardware.

Can you keep the pretty ones and find some ugly old ones to use the shaft out of?

wonder if he changed his site after your conversation this morning.... just went to his site and it says " Outside Door Handle Dodge Truck 1941-1950 Most Models, Can Be Used Up To 1953 If The Shaft Is Extended.  "                         interesting?

ruff,

I'm not really sure what these are from, but somehow they got mixed into the bunch of chrome sent to my chrome plater. They are beautiful, but they are wrong and I have what is correct for my truck . Suppose I should list them in classified car part of our forum ?  Maybe someone needs them ? Anyone know what they are ?

Gary will do what he can to get things right, even if it is updating his info after the fact for the next person.
