AV Joe Posted April 19, 2015 Report Posted April 19, 2015 Has anyone here used gofundme.com ? I ask this because my landlord wants me to finish my truck but I'm out of cash to advance the project and don't feel like watching a prized possession ride away on a flat bed. Quote
Mark D Posted April 19, 2015 Report Posted April 19, 2015 Any time I've been asked to participate in a go fund me, it's usually for a benevolent purpose but not for personal gain. I feel for your issue, but maybe it's time to flip the truck for what you can get and bank the cash for a future project once you have enough saved up.. 3 Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted April 19, 2015 Report Posted April 19, 2015 when I first read this I said to myself....this has got to be a joke....next we gonna to ask how can I blame my parents for this failure...I was surprised to see an actual website....visualize me shaking my head... Quote
pflaming Posted April 19, 2015 Report Posted April 19, 2015 I agree with ALF, that B4 is a TRUCK and when finished too large and bulky for a fun driver. Sell the truck, and look for a B3B, They are out there and can be very reasonable, at least here on the left coast. Quote
Dodgeb4ya Posted April 19, 2015 Report Posted April 19, 2015 I want a new fancy phone and am short on money because I lost some money at the race track last week. I have trouble managing my money. I think feeding the bears is a good thing so.... I think I'll try this go gofundme.com too. Quote
Don Coatney Posted April 19, 2015 Report Posted April 19, 2015 My poor car has been in a coma for several months now. I am struggling to keep my wife in new clothes and jewelry. My drug stash is getting low and the booze store cut me off until I give them some money. My only hope is helpfundme. For every dollar I get I will promise to spent 10% on my car and smoke the rest. Niel Hoback Posted April 19, 2015 Report Posted April 19, 2015 Well, it's easier than sitting on the corner begging with a cup. The same thing with a wi-fi connection. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted April 19, 2015 Report Posted April 19, 2015 oh..hard to say....I think the IRS may have a better handle on the gofundme than the coffee cup itself...if not they sure are a large disappointment considering the taxes I pay... Quote
Captain Neon Posted April 19, 2015 Report Posted April 19, 2015 When we lived in a Kansas town of about 6K, a couple 20-something girls wanted to open a cupcakery (store that only sells cupcakes), and they tried to get support through GoFundMe. They seemed shocked when the local community did not rally to their aid. The local movie theater owner chose not to reinvest in his business by purchasing digital projection equipment to continue showing first-run movies so the local city council decided that they would build a brand new cinema with city funds. It was just horrible that kids without driver licence would have to watch movies at home on Netflix, and the town was going to dry up and blow away with so many people leaving town to get dinner, a movie, and some shopping 45 minutes away. /sarcasm off Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted April 20, 2015 Report Posted April 20, 2015 suggest you do a bit more looking into this website than just creating an account to elicit funds. Most are shocked to find that they must provide SSN and banking account numbers (what, this is not upfront for the account..apparently not) for the actual collected funds be transferred to them after nominal fees incurred by the site...5% off the top...then avg 3% per some states and additional small transaction fee of 30 cents etc..and guess who is going to be getting a 1099...yessir...Mr. IRS...we have what it takes to take what you have...seems the site also is not that snell on canceling and refunding donors also....is the money help in a trust where they skinning interest regardless of principal dispersion or refund...inquiring mind would like to know..discerning minds would find other avenues.. greg g Posted April 20, 2015 Report Posted April 20, 2015 Can't fault a guy for trying to keep his project, and going along with there is one born ever yminute and all the people who bought pet rocks I guess you could say why the heck not, any port in a storm deal. Fortunately I have never found myself in a position when I have had to depend on the kindness of strangers. So what the hey............ Quote
AV Joe Posted April 20, 2015 Author Report Posted April 20, 2015 Greg thats just where I'm at I'm earning money just not at a rate that would allow me to get this thing done in a record amount of time i mean hell my goal is something like 500 which is stupid low. Theres some guy up on go fund me with the title " King goodness rap" whos earned 8000 to start a rap career. All I'm asking is if anyones every used it, and no I'm not just trying to get money out of people, I mean hell I'm probably one of the few 17 year olds of the modern age that advertise my help out so I'm not just sitting idly bye just got payed for doing inner and outer tie rods and the right hub on a kids minivan. At least I'm not like most kids begging mommy and daddy for fortunes. Quote
Todd B Posted April 20, 2015 Report Posted April 20, 2015 I was raised to help others in need and I belong to Lions, Civic group, Church council and 2 historical society's. I will buy most any fundraiser raffle or donate to most benefits. But when I read this thread and found out you can ask strangers to support your hobby, I almost tipped over. Get a second job! 2 Quote
wdoland Posted April 20, 2015 Report Posted April 20, 2015 Please donate to the poor rattlesnakes of Arizona. They don't have a pit to hiss in. Thank you. 1 Quote
deathbound Posted April 24, 2015 Report Posted April 24, 2015 If it's $500 you need, ask your landlord if he'll loan it to you & pay it off monthly, added to your rent. Try a bank & get a personal loan, with the title from your truck as collateral. Good luck. Quote
