Hi guys,

Can anyone help me find the name of the tailgate font used on the B2B series pickups??

I have a plain one and want to get a stencil made so I can spray the DODGE logo on but really would like the correct font.

Anyone can  help?? cheers, TrOjAn UK

D O D G E :  This is Verdana. Open up a new document, type in D O D G E, the go through the fonts and find the one you want. The new document will have many more choices than the forum choices.

i had a friend at work draw one up to scale on "auto cad" using my tail gate. He said he also could not find the font.

Given the era the styling was done and the general way things were done in the advertising and graphic design world at that time, I would not be surprised to find that the letters were hand drawn specifically for that application and that there is no typeface that exactly matches.

I have a feeling you could well be right... I tend to forget its over 60 years ago LOL

NOTE** I have got a design now that I am happy with.. pretty near to the original so it will do.

Thanks for the replies, its appreciated.

i'll look into it, just the letters or the outline of the gate as well? i had him do the whole thing for my glass tailgate idea....

I have a feeling it is a short side, its only recently I noticed the slightly different E on some tail gates... I have now got a stencil made up so Ill post some photos once its painted on.. meanwhile, this is what I have come up with.... remember this is NOT an original restoration its a hot rod so dont burn me for what it now looks like ;)

no burning here! looks nice. i am no expert but i would have called it a high side.... i think you nailed it on the stencil. i don't think i would change it if i were you  :)

Yours is definitely a high side.  I don't think the low side boxes had a pattern stamped into the sides and the stake pockets come all the way to the bottom and are rounded off.

Thanks for the replies.. I`ve made a note on " its a Hi Side "  :)

ggdad that looks well nice... I do envy you guys over there, I visited Las Vegas and San Francisco this year and got a load of parts for the truck, good old Napa got them all in for me and they was waiting when I landed.

Hoping to get back over soon and this time Ill be getting LOADS of parts as spares.

I just picked up a grain gate like your ggdad...it makes me cringe that they just hacked the gates up, but only way to ease the grain out of the box back in the day.

No matter what vehicle you drive Trojan, never worry about what anyone thinks about it, you didn't build it for them ;)

I tracked this down to something called Iconian fonts. Mr Zadorozny states that it is free for non commercial use but you'll want to read the home page disclaimer yourself.

The font is called Dodger

Guess I'll be the third guy to say its a High-Side....I gotta find more stuff to do.

Smooth/ Low-side...Embossed High-side......Though Keven found a picture of a guy who converted his High-Side bed to a Low-Side keeping the embossed sides....

Amen.....if it ain't for sale, it ain't your problem. lol

The vintage trucks were "tractors" that could haul and deliver......never meant to look pretty.

Mark's got his original gate hanging on the garage wall as art, looks awesome.
