My '55 C-3-B8 with the 259 V-8 showing the 4 barrel WCFB carb.  Although everything looks stock, I've been told that MOPAR never put a 4 barrel on a pick up until the 60 or 61 Adventurer with the 413.  The other clue is the "Super Red Ram" on the valve covers.

I came across this at the junkyard yesterday.  Not sure what it is, but it looked a lot longer than a standard flathead.  Did they make a spitfire for the trucks in the larger blocks?

The Spitfire head was a Crashler (25" engine) only thing. I believe some trucks had the 25" engine but it did not have the Spitfire head. I did pick up a Spitfire head for my Desoto engine but I have not yet installed it.

Here is the Canadian D24 engine in my 1940 Dodge. It was rebuilt in about 1951. This is a 2010 photo. It definitely needs new paint now. This is on my long to-do list.

There's the old heart of Lumpy. Chrysler Marine, B&B carbs off of little slant-sixes, and a bit of a shave off the head.

 

Wow, must have cost 40Phil a fortune to chrome that engine.

Don, what is the difference between a 25 inch Spitfire head and a non-Spitfire 25 in head?

The word "Spitfire" is the only difference I know of. The compression might have been higher but I have not seen any documentation to support that. I think Chrysler wanted to spit on the Buick "Fireball 8". ;)

Here's mine,1955 P27 259 CI V8 with a Carter 4 barrol WCFB carburator, before overhaul and after.
