TodFitch Posted April 11, 2014 Report Posted April 11, 2014 Local paper had this today: http://www.mercurynews.com/peninsula/ci_25544054/classic-car-stolen-from-palo-alto-street I don't know the person and its a bit dated as the theft was a week ago. Quote
pflaming Posted April 12, 2014 Report Posted April 12, 2014 Getting something stolen is worse than fire. FIre is not personal, theft IS!. Quote
Lumpy Posted April 12, 2014 Report Posted April 12, 2014 Gas Guzzler? The flat six does not get bad gas mileage as far as I can tell. I think it will be a little more difficult than normal to sell off the parts, especially if the owner does his homework and notifies anyone in the state that has anything to do with classic cars. When a gold '41 Dodge fender shows up on ebay, someone should notice. Or not. Some bone head teenager probably has it hidden in his garage, and now has no idea what to do with it. k. Quote
oldodge41 Posted April 12, 2014 Report Posted April 12, 2014 Another reason to stay stock. Most thieves would never figure out how to start my 41. 1 Quote

pflaming Posted April 13, 2014 Report Posted April 13, 2014 I vote with Bob. If you like an old car, then keep it old, otherwise you're possibly just another "urban cowboy"! Quote

If you listen to some folks man no longer swings from trees.....but then we still have evidence that it is not so..not every one like an old car for what it is..old and out of date...many like the body styles and buy for that reason..other like neither and chop them to pieces..how many time has this been brought up...I could care less how many like their cars original and are happy with them in that fashion.....I have plenty of each..each car is different and speak out on the way it should be built.. PP aren't you the one and same guy that is putting everything he can from an 80's Ford Thunderbird into a Plymouth Suburban..and just think..everyone that has changed to disc brakes, better modern ratio rear axles, radial tires, added stereo, changed shock mounts, air cleaners, seatbelts and other items that they think is needed or maybe just wanted...what shade of gray is this? At what point is a change not a change...I guess it falls into the category of a Chevy 350 installed is a full restoration.. I never ever said that three on the tree was not a good way to shift..only that to me it is unsophisticated...eating long spaghetti noodles will fill you up but at some point you really need to grow up......we need an icon for posts that may require " Steel Toed Shoes.." pflaming Posted April 13, 2014 Report Posted April 13, 2014 keep it old, I spoke in jest, I agree with Tim. One of many reasons I am drawn to this hobby is the creativity: in color, finish, power, mechanical, I like it all. I would never slam a car, but some look trick that way, same for choped tops, yet 2" off some make a HUGE improvement to the look. I like the Model A but would put that body on a good chassis and enjoy, I don't like riding in a wagon. Quote
RobertKB Posted April 13, 2014 Report Posted April 13, 2014 (edited) Who is Bob? I wondered, too. Got a feeling it is meant to be me. However, I go by either Robert or Rob. I have noticed that a lot of Americans when they hear or see Robert automatically go to Bob. Bob is a nice name but not mine. Edited April 13, 2014 by RobertKB 1 Quote

As PP claims to be a prior English Teacher I think he needs to bone up a bit in his reading skills. Quote
Dan Hiebert Posted April 14, 2014 Report Posted April 14, 2014 My brother is a State Trooper in Texas. He sez one of the easiest ways to keep your vehicle (absent anything else) is to have a manual transmission, especially in areas prone to carjacking, as the vast majority of the thugs can't drive a manual - much less one with the shifter on the column. Several years ago when we still lived on the southern border, it was pretty common for car thieves to steal collector cars for Mexican "customers". Quote
Lumpy Posted April 15, 2014 Report Posted April 15, 2014 It did cross my mind that it could be in a container and headed overseas...didn't consider Mexico. But that's a very real possibility, as it is more difficult to part out, or paint and resell something like that on a local level. I love my three on the tree so much that it keeps me from swapping in any other transmission...or engine/tranny combo. !!! For me, it's just a big part of Lumpy's charm. ken. Quote
