larryconnors Posted March 23, 2014 Report Posted March 23, 2014 This afternoon it was finally warm enough here in new england that I got to do a little on my P15 in my unheated garage. I took the front seat out to reupholster. I expected to find lots of old and valuable coins in the process. All I found was a 1959 D penny. Whats the record for the most found under the seats in restoring a car? What unusual things have you found? Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted March 23, 2014 Report Posted March 23, 2014 (edited) few coins here and there, lots of tool, many pocket knives..few nice rings and a bracelet or two..a plaque removed from a historical monument also...actual change was just a bit less than 4.00 one time...in the 50 Stude all I found was the original HURD key number tag and a Mercury head dime... Whats the record for the most found under the seats in restoring a car? What unusual things have you found? While taking apart my 49 p-15 club coupe I found 3 pennies in the heater all dated prior to 1949, and my big find was a 1943 quarter lodged in the front seat track. The reason the quarter is special is because it's my birth year so I put it in a holder and hung it from my rearview mirror for good luck. Of course in my opinion nothing can beat Rodney Dangerfield when he said he once bought a used car and found one of his wife's dresses in the back seat. No respect!!!!! 55 Fargo Posted March 23, 2014 Report Posted March 23, 2014 In a 47 Chrysler parts car found the following, 1 liquor bottle, cork top, 1 old Dr Pepper bottle, ashtray full of old non-filter cig butts. and some kinda old loan payment receipt. I have found the odd old coin, and in Canada prior to 1966 dimes, quarters and 50 cent pieces were real silver.... Quote
40phil41 Posted March 23, 2014 Report Posted March 23, 2014 Under the back seat of my '40 Dodge ......very old condoms in a metal container and I still have them Phil 1 Quote
BigDaddyO Posted March 23, 2014 Report Posted March 23, 2014 The only thing that stands out is the K-Bar knife I found under the front seat of my '47. 1 Quote
Uncle-Pekka Posted March 23, 2014 Report Posted March 23, 2014 I may have told this before on this forum... What I found under the seat of the 1951 Nash which came from Phoenix, AZ: An ice peak and a two feet long heavy metal bar which had a handle wrapped of electric tape on the other end. On the other hand, the Nash had lots of practical stuff in the glove box and in the trunk there was a neat wooden tool box with some original tools and lot of spares each tagged with cardboard labels. One may assume one of the owners was a precise car person and the other may have been a reckless hoodlum...? Quote

Daliant. Posted March 23, 2014 Report Posted March 23, 2014 All I got was a big pile of seat stuffing which was soaked in mouse piss and riddled with droppings of various sizes. Quote
JDaniel64 Posted March 23, 2014 Report Posted March 23, 2014 (edited) Some goodies were found for sure: door jamb service sticker, disabled veterans license plate key tags, red devil ice scraper, windshield wipers, 1949 roosevelt dime, 1935 buffalo nickel, and sandy dirt. A travel time-mileage-mpg/ service time mirror was found as well, dunno its exact name. Edited March 23, 2014 by JDaniel64 Quote
Lumpy Posted March 24, 2014 Report Posted March 24, 2014 Very nice high quality Japanese field glasses, probably dating to the 1960's or 1950's. Forget the maker at the moment. My older brother had to go overseas on short notice once, and gave me a 1960 T-Bird he had just bought. Couple of days later I get pulled over by a motorcycle cop, and instead of asking for my driver's license, he asks me if there is any fishing gear in the trunk of the car. ?? So I open the trunk, and it's full of fishing poles. He had sold the car to my brother, and had forgotten to take his gear out of the trunk. k. Quote

Don Coatney Posted March 24, 2014 Report Posted March 24, 2014 That is a good story. But it got me to thinking and I always get in trouble when I start thinking. Why is fishing stuff called gear? Seems shiftless to me. Quote
BigDaddyO Posted March 24, 2014 Report Posted March 24, 2014 Put your fishing gear in a motor boat and catch a tuna fish. Quote

BobT-47P15 Posted March 25, 2014 Report Posted March 25, 2014 In the 1954 Plymouth Savoy I bought 4 or 5 years ago, in the ash tray were some Vess soda pop bottle caps, an old movie ticket and some coins. The trunk contained all kinds of "treasures"......not....... Quote
Lumpy Posted March 25, 2014 Report Posted March 25, 2014 Could have called it fishing "kit" but that might have been kind of catty. k. Quote

plyroadking Posted March 26, 2014 Report Posted March 26, 2014 I bought a '53 Cambridge a couple years ago, found an entire garage floor under the seats..... 3 Quote
50desotocoupe Posted March 26, 2014 Report Posted March 26, 2014 I found quite a few small boxes from the Rock Springs WY train station and a crumpled pack of Pall Mall cigarettes. My car was an old lady car from WY. She bought it new and worked at the train station. Pretty cool finding the pack of cigarettes as that is what my aunt smoked....so they will stay in the car. Quote
lizmcl527 Posted March 26, 2014 Report Posted March 26, 2014 The original Owner's Service Policy made out to the original owner by Young Motors in Halifax, a Camel tube patching kit, and a very nice screwdriver with interchangeable tips. Quote
casper50 Posted March 26, 2014 Report Posted March 26, 2014 (edited) payment slip where it was insured for $332.50 in 1973. The most cleaned out older car I've ever owned. Edited March 26, 2014 by casper50 Quote
