55 Fargo Posted March 4, 2014 Report Posted March 4, 2014 Wife and kids bought me a set of personalized license plates for Christmas. On a cold January night, we were sitting around thinking of slogans, well 55 Below was 1 of the choices, and it fits this region this winter. I have experienced -40 to -45, but never -55, 2 nights ago, we had a close -48 windchill at -32f, very bitter cold. Here is the plate..... 1 Quote
RobertKB Posted March 4, 2014 Report Posted March 4, 2014 Nice plates but no one should have to live in a place like that. Anyone in the US want to swap Manitoba for Maui???? LOL We'll throw in the Alberta Tar Sands as well! Quote
Don Coatney Posted March 4, 2014 Report Posted March 4, 2014 You should mount the "55 below" tag on the roof as it would have more meaning. If mounted on the bumper it should read "below 55" or "55 above" 1 Quote
Merle Coggins Posted March 4, 2014 Report Posted March 4, 2014 (edited) Cool plate, Fred. Mine says "50 B2C" I thought about getting Collector Plates, but one of the rules for that, here in WI, is that you must have a primary vehicle licensed in your name. Since my daily driver is a company vehicle, and my only other vehicle is a motorcycle (which doesn't count), I opted for personalized plates instead. Edited March 4, 2014 by Merle Coggins Quote
Mark D Posted March 4, 2014 Report Posted March 4, 2014 Year of Manufacturer is more my speed. Plus it was an odd size plate that only ran for a few months in Mass. The car is actually a '49, but has always been registered as a '48, something I will leave for the next owner to figure out in 30 or 40 years when I am ready to give her up. Quote
bamfordsgarage Posted March 5, 2014 Report Posted March 5, 2014 Who is first with the translation? Quote
bamfordsgarage Posted March 5, 2014 Report Posted March 5, 2014 That is easy. 24T42 not 3 or 4 Quite right. And for bonus points, what is this plate for? (Hint: the frame is not a hint.) Quote
RobertKB Posted March 5, 2014 Report Posted March 5, 2014 855 Cubic Inches. Gotta be from your old,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,? I forget what real oldie you have. Sorry. Quote

Dave72dt Posted March 5, 2014 Report Posted March 5, 2014 I'm guessing it's an 8 cyl in a '55 and c u in Alberta Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted March 5, 2014 Report Posted March 5, 2014 If I remember long ago Chris talked of an old fire truck...could well be an American La France inline 6 of that displacement.. Quote
bamfordsgarage Posted March 5, 2014 Report Posted March 5, 2014 ...could well be an American La France inline 6 of that displacement.. Bingo! 1916 to be exact. Quote
oldodge41 Posted March 5, 2014 Report Posted March 5, 2014 Quite right. And for bonus points, what is this plate for? (Hint: the frame is not a hint.) I still had to think about it. Just dense I think. So does it stand for 1924 Model T for two ? Quote
Mark D Posted March 6, 2014 Report Posted March 6, 2014 (dont meant to hi-jack the thread but) If I could find one of those old American Lafrance fire engines, I'd couldn't resist repurposing it as one of these; Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted March 6, 2014 Report Posted March 6, 2014 yes..these old vehicles are finding their way to being converted to huge roadsters...they are very unique for sure...how many folks can boast a 14 liter engine in a two seat runabout... 1 Quote
bamfordsgarage Posted March 7, 2014 Report Posted March 7, 2014 ...If I could find one of those old American Lafrance fire engines, I'd couldn't resist repurposing it as one of these; You got that right… I bought mine in 1998 to build a speedster much like the one you illustrated. Did the engine, got sidetracked and as all too often happens, once a project falls off the rails it can be very hard to get back on it again. The ALF has been parked untouched in a tent garage for over 10 years now. 1 Quote
Don Coatney Posted March 8, 2014 Report Posted March 8, 2014 A friend sent me this plate photo today. Quote
