Jeff Balazs Posted November 8, 2013 Report Posted November 8, 2013 Hi Guy's; Santa came early this year. There are still some good deals to be had on ebay.......and this one was at the top of my list. I know it is no longer baseball season.......but I can't help feeling like I just smacked one out of the park. NOS still in the original box with instruction sheet......$30 and free shipping Thank you Santa!!! Can't wait to hook this up. Jeff Quote
Young Ed Posted November 8, 2013 Report Posted November 8, 2013 Good find. Looks just like the one I got from Plymouthy. Quote
HanksB3B Posted November 8, 2013 Report Posted November 8, 2013 A very good thing to have. Hank Quote

ggdad1951 Posted November 8, 2013 Report Posted November 8, 2013 (edited) Man I missed out my tach search sucks Edited November 8, 2013 by ggdad1951 Quote
Jeff Balazs Posted November 8, 2013 Author Report Posted November 8, 2013 Mark........I was amazed that no one else bid on this. Been looking for over a year for a 6V tach and when they do come up they usually get real pricey. Jeff Quote
ggdad1951 Posted November 8, 2013 Report Posted November 8, 2013 (edited) PM me your search parameters...seems mine didn't catch this one! Thanks! At least we didn't get into a bidding war! Edited November 8, 2013 by ggdad1951 Quote
Jeff Balazs Posted November 8, 2013 Author Report Posted November 8, 2013 PM me your search parameters...seems mine didn't catch this one! Thanks! At least we didn't get into a bidding war! A war wouldn't have gone too far........I wasn't going to go over $45. It wasn't advertised as unmolested NOS and they never tested it. I am not too worried though.....it is very nicely made and it is obviously never been used. Got to love the range on this one......0 to 3500 RPM. Musta been made for a flattie. Wouldn't it have been cool if they had wired in a rev-limiter? Jeff Quote
Merle Coggins Posted November 8, 2013 Report Posted November 8, 2013 Good plan on the price ceiling. I got a new 0-3500 RPM tach for my truck, new from Westach, for around $125. Quote
TodFitch Posted November 8, 2013 Report Posted November 8, 2013 Good plan on the price ceiling. I got a new 0-3500 RPM tach for my truck, new from Westach, for around $125. Max BHP on your engine is higher than your tach. . . I guess I am confused about that. A long while back in the earlier incarnation of this forum someone posted a torque and BHP chart recorded by a fellow in the Chrysler engineering department in the 1950s. IIRC the upper RPM was around 4000, maybe 4200. Anyway, it was something above the 3600 RPM rating for max BHP. Seems like you'd want your tach to cover that range. Quote
Merle Coggins Posted November 8, 2013 Report Posted November 8, 2013 Westach offered 2 versions of this tach. 0-3500 and 0-5000. I don't ever expect to spin my engine above 3500 in normal driving. I can cruise down the highway at 75 MPH at around 3300, so I figured the lower one would be fine. Plus it gives me a more accurate scale to view, since the 5000 tach uses the same sweep range. Jeff Balazs Posted November 8, 2013 Author Report Posted November 8, 2013 Yes I figured I would rather have the more accurate view of the range I would be running in most of the time. With the 4 speed and the 3.55 rear end in my truck it should not ever see anything like 4000 rpm in regular day to day use. So far it seems to have plenty of grunt without winding it up too high. And I think that is a good thing. I wouldn't be too surprised if the Tach becomes a far more accurate tool for judging my actual speed than the speedo. Jeff Quote
TodFitch Posted November 8, 2013 Report Posted November 8, 2013 . . . I wouldn't be too surprised if the Tach becomes a far more accurate tool for judging my actual speed than the speedo. . . I find the mapping/navigation app on my smartphone with the holder suction cup mounted to the windshield is a pretty good speedometer. Even warns me if I am exceeding the speed limit. Quote
Jeff Balazs Posted November 8, 2013 Author Report Posted November 8, 2013 Tod; That would work.......but I don't have (or want) a cell phone. Besides I know how to read a map and I have never been lost for long. 2-3 days tops! I am actually shooting for the distinction of being the last person on earth without an electronic dog leash......and I am so close. The other day I saw a transient / homeless person using one. When I saw that I figure I am almost to my goal. Jeff I insulated the living daylights out of my truck. And no electronics either. When the rest of you get knocked off the road by one of those "pulse" devices I will be rambling on...... totally oblivious ....as usual. 1 Quote
Dave72dt Posted November 8, 2013 Report Posted November 8, 2013 I don't have a portable communication and information device either. Traveling alone for a long distance I prefer to have one with me for unexpected situations or directions when nearing my destination. It would have to be one that simply functioned as a phone because I haven't figured out how to answer the newer ones. I suppose I could take my 4 year old granddaughter along to answer it. She knows how. I do like taking the Garmin with me when traveling to places I don't frequent often. It does save trying to read maps or written directions. Quote
Jeff Balazs Posted November 8, 2013 Author Report Posted November 8, 2013 Dave; Ok....so there is still a few that are hanging with me on this. We will see how long that lasts? I'd bet I don't have to wait for that long....... and I am real good at going my own way on things like this. I have been accused of being the Indian in "Little Big Man" ....... the one they called a contrary. Said goodbye when he meant hello......road his horse backwards and so on....and that is fine with me. I just never got the hang of doing something just 'cause everyone else did. Heck if I did what everyone else did I would have built an old Chevy instead of a Dodge. Jeff Quote
DJ194950 Posted November 9, 2013 Report Posted November 9, 2013 I personally being somewhat lost as I travel. get to see a lot of out of the way places! After a while if I feel too out of general direction I actually ask directions (don't ask/ dont tell?, which can also be interesting in some rural areas, adds to the travel fun. Hate having to be at a particular place at a certain time if there is not leaway for travel time/getting lost etc,! Wave someone down if broken down and use their cell minutes, to call for help. Whers the old time fun travlin?? Doug Quote
Jeff Balazs Posted November 9, 2013 Author Report Posted November 9, 2013 Doug; Well said my friend.......and Amen. I didn't put this truck together to just follow suite with the masses. I can't wait to get it out on the road and let it take me wherever. Jeff Quote
Jeff Balazs Posted November 9, 2013 Author Report Posted November 9, 2013 Got to test it today prior to install. It's a keeper! Yeah! Jeff Quote
