I was looking at the other post about the broken main cap. I was agoing to add my 02 cents, but since it was locked I couldn't. Why would a topic be locked. Anyway about the broken main cap. I thought those kind of bad things only happened to me. As for line honing, it is sometimes done by some rebuilders to have everything straight and true, before assembly. I had it done one time when I had to replace a main cap on my JD tractor when it spun a bearing. I would definatly have it done when you find a new cap. It isn't such a time consuming thing, just may be a little pricy. Now you have my 02 cents Stan

Looks like GTK would like the item to be posted in the classified section. When that happens, then I think you can post follow up comments. Not sure about that as I haven't looked at that area to see if it is threaded like the forum area. . .

It would be helpful if there was a pinned message on this forum directing the use of the OT, Craig's list/ebay/external source, and classified sections :)

EDIT: not that I have any objection as to where things are posted, just would be helpful for to OP to start it where admin would like it to be

And for a change of pace Bobs thread was initially off topic for where it was posted and actually went back on topic!

Yes, you can hardly blame him for posting his needs in the main forum.  I think his post was made yesterday and it's been viewed over 120 times.  I looked in the "parts needed" section of the classifieds and posts made 50-60 days ago have only been viewed 10-20 times.

personally I liked the parts column listed with the other forum venues..off on a tab at the top of the page is a bit "non aggressive" for any other way of saying it..no longer in your face...more of an out of sight out of mind..my only complaint with the old classifieds was that the ads stayed up forever and never auto deleted..ads need be managed and for those who fail to do that..30 days and you gone does this for them..

If you recall 2-3 days ago there was a thread started in this forum by a member looking for front end parts for a 48 Plymouth. If I recall correctly that thread was initially locked and then moved to the Classisified car parts wanted forum. And if I recall GTK posted a note on that thread much as he did on the thread that is the topic in question. I was glad to see that and I thanked GTK for doing so. Nobody complained when this happened.

When the recently locked thread was first started I noticed that the poster was looking for parts so I used the report button to alert GTK that another thread was started in the incorrect forum. A day or so later GTK locked this thread. So dont blame GTK for locking this thread. Blame me as I was the instigator.

In my opinion one of the really great features about this new board is there is a forum for most every topic including "off topic". Should this thread I am responding to be posted in the off topic forum as it does not relate to old Plymouths, Dodges, and Dodge trucks?

I do not agree/disagree with it being posted where it was. Agree it is more likely to be viewed on this forum :) My point is that everyone would be alerted to webmaster policies saving the locking/moving efforts/confusion if that info was pinned here as it is when you get to those sections :D

Does anyone read the parts wanted section? I posted a few months ago for a part wanted and didn't get a response. However requests in the forum section for the same part by other people got multiple replies in the past. I don't find parts wanted as offensive as forum topics trying to sell parts. Just my opinion.

The initial poster in the thread that was locked explained the problem he had with the broken cap and that he needed a replacement. I thought the thread should have stayed here as we all may learn something from his problem. Asking for a part was kind of incidental to the thread. There was more to the thread than looking for a part and we all would like to see the solution. I hope he does start a new thread and lets us know his progress. I kind of think locking that particular thread was a bit heavy handed. The other thread mentioned was strictly looking for parts and should have been in the classifieds. However, he was a brand new poster so I hope he was notified of the correct procedure. Incidentally, I did reply and tell him to PM me which he did as I had the parts he needed.

Also, those that live by the report button come across as classroom tattletales. I think GTK, and I see Tod Fitch in now also admin, can deal with OT or threads in the wrong forums. I think the report button should only be used for a flagrant misuse of the forum.

I kinda miss the OT threads on this forum as long as they were marked OT. If you had no interest the OT topic, you could skip it.

I guess this just shows we all have different preferences for accessing information.  I prefer just a couple forums and that people use descriptive title and codes like OT or PW so I can figure out whether to have a look.  It sounds like Don prefers just the opposite.  It's a balancing act for the administrator.  I suspect that things will be tweaked as time goes by.  Forums categories that prove to generate little traffic should probably go away eventually.

And that behavior is driven by people posting ads in the forum. When people realize the classifieds are the only place for ads traffic will increase.

When an ad is incorrectly posted I will lock the thread and notify the poster it needs to go to the classified section. 24 hours after notification the thread will be deleted in the forum.

Let me remind all the biggest ongoing complaint at the site was the management of the Buy/Sell ads.  With the new classified section you get:

Ads broken out by parts wanted or for sale, cars wanted or for sale, trucks wanted or for sale and services. You can view ALL for sale ads, wanted ads or Service ads with a single mouse click.  Ads now require a contact email and location info, and an optional phone. You can post specific public questions to the seller directly. And after they run their term they are gone unless the seller specifically renews the ad so you know the item is still available.

As a result you can find what is for sale and see what people are looking for way faster then paging thru 30 or 40 forum threads.

And now I'm closing this thread cause it is going nowhere! :D
