Dodgeb4ya Posted December 21, 2022 Report Posted December 21, 2022 Was Puma wearing hearing protection at all times watching this build project? Evidently not! Quote

You ever try to put ear plugs in a cat's ears? Me either... but it doesn't sound like a pleasant job. ? Quote

ggdad1951 Posted January 2, 2023 Author Report Posted January 2, 2023 Well, as usual I didn't get as much done as I wanted, but here is the dump of the week off of work I did. I didn't take pictures of me standing there scratching my head for a few hours each day. Also, sadly I lost a coworker over the break, my car club buddies dad passed and I got some concerning news over a good friend. First off, modification of the new brake booster to match the mock up of the old one to fit in the engine bay/behind the engine Next up was removing the old extra cab mounts I don't need and welding on the front mounts for the 4 bar linkage. Next we have the old and new rear suspension Finally there is the hood wings back on with prop arms! Final good news is my wife is now happy with 2 new familiy members to spoil! 5 Quote

I think I missed this, but what is the reason for converting the rear suspension over the bags? Softer ride over the leafs? Also, I'm taking stock of those rear wheel beauty rings...those are probably very unique given how deep they are. Do the new cats signify that the previous cat on the house side eventually met its demise? Quote
ggdad1951 Posted January 4, 2023 Author Report Posted January 4, 2023 yah ride....a 1 ton truck with no weight....rides like a 1 ton truck...I want to be able to drive w/o bouncing everywhere....and it's "kool". The wheels on this thing have to get changed, WAY to wide, and at this point are pusing legal limits in the state for width. So more narrow rims will get stuck back there. I need to shave off 4" or so per side. Yah last house kitty had to go back in August, cancer got too bad and it was his time to cross the rainbow bridge. Quote

But you definitely don't want to be wider than longer, nor be scraping the sides of tunnels, lol.... Too bad about the house cat. Down one, up two. You'll have to build a kitty tunnel connecting the house, shop, and shop annex... ? Quote
ggdad1951 Posted January 4, 2023 Author Report Posted January 4, 2023 6 to 8 on wheel width will be pretty easy. There is a 3" spacer between the rears. And going to a more narrow rim will get me there pretty quick....at least I hope so! ? Quote
ggdad1951 Posted January 5, 2023 Author Report Posted January 5, 2023 On AIR! And the mods I did to add the fab'd bracketry for the air ride control system. 3 Quote

ggdad1951 Posted January 30, 2023 Author Report Posted January 30, 2023 split the rad support so I can loosen and tip forward a little JIC the serpentine needs replacement after...well, whenever Quote

ggdad1951 Posted February 15, 2023 Author Report Posted February 15, 2023 After fighting thru hood tip linkage design and general procrastination, I decided to start building out the seams for a pretty look once ground to a 3/16" gap. 3 Quote
ggdad1951 Posted February 23, 2023 Author Report Posted February 23, 2023 Spent my orbit day (post work) pulling the turbo off so I can build in the tip linkage. Removing the turbo is quite the job...the back two nuts/studs are SOOO easy to pop free....HA! I will be flipping the exhaust manifold to have the turbo point UP vs. the stock down to get the waste gate actuator out of my way. Flipping the manifold is luckily a thing that is easy to do and won't cost me for a new/custom manifold. 4 Quote
ggdad1951 Posted February 27, 2023 Author Report Posted February 27, 2023 Passenger side door lower cancer repaired. And of course my air compressor pressure switch took a dump again...another switch on order to see if the motor is driving the over amp on the switch causing the wire melt. 3 Quote
David A. Posted February 28, 2023 Report Posted February 28, 2023 I wish I lived near you. I would love to get some pointers on welding in patch panels. No matter how slow I go, I always seem to get too much warpage. You’re doing a great job! Can’t wait to see it finished. Quote

One technique is temp cotrol of the panel and go slow, then grind and hammer and dolly and repeat. I only do 2-3 spots per sticth area and then grind/h&d before welding again. Quote
Lingle Posted February 28, 2023 Report Posted February 28, 2023 I've followed a guy on YouTube called MakeItKustom, guy has a lot of interesting videos on welding, fab, etc. and he talked about how to weld without warping. Also, keep up the good work ggdad! Quote

Can you get that coated? Quote

Dave72dt Posted March 1, 2023 Report Posted March 1, 2023 The cast iron parts get real hot. In a hard, sustained pull, I've seen them turn orange. Engine oil temp and boost pressure gauges and pyrometers are necessary when that becomes a regular occurrence. Quote

And seeing it on a 95l engine where these are BIG turbos it is...interesting. Quote
