DollyDodge Posted October 1, 2012 Report Posted October 1, 2012 I couldn't help myself, I had to put the restored gauges in the dash. Danged they are pretty. Quote
Jeff Balazs Posted October 1, 2012 Report Posted October 1, 2012 Nice..........so nice. Love that Tach! Jeff Quote
Desotodav Posted October 1, 2012 Report Posted October 1, 2012 Very nice DD. Ditto on the Tach. You'd probably have the Engineer's wondering why they didn't go that way back then. Desotodav Quote
Jim Shepard Posted October 1, 2012 Report Posted October 1, 2012 Maybe I missed it earlier, but what did you use for the "guts" of the tach? Quote
DollyDodge Posted October 2, 2012 Author Report Posted October 2, 2012 The tach guts came from http://www.westach.com/ they make several varieties of 6 v tachs. Then Mark Clawson, the guage restorer, built a brass case for the tach (the one that comes with it is plastic), and fit it to the old speedo case. It was quite the process. He also made the pointer, he tried to use the old pointer, but he said he couldn't get it to balance on the tach correctly. He did say the tach is very sensitive. I sure like the look if the whole cluster. Quote
pflaming Posted October 2, 2012 Report Posted October 2, 2012 Dolly, when I got my new gauges for Keven, I did the same thing, just had to see them in the dash. To me the old restored gauges are like putting the correct frame around a picture. I too like that tach but I suspect that took a couple lottery tickets. Also enjoying your progress. edit: and the back is slowly improving, I can now pull up my fly without any pain! Quote
HanksB3B Posted October 2, 2012 Report Posted October 2, 2012 edit: and the back is slowly improving, I can now pull up my fly without any pain! Yea Paul I think you'd better put your "Garage Improvement" plans on hold for a while old boy. Sorry I know I'm bad but I couldn't resist, Hank Quote
pflaming Posted October 2, 2012 Report Posted October 2, 2012 Hank, what do you want me to do, commit suicide? About the only thing I can raise just now is my eyebrow! :D Love that pair of . . . . white walls!!!! Quote
DollyDodge Posted October 2, 2012 Author Report Posted October 2, 2012 (edited) Attached are two pictures, one was taken during the rebuild, and you can see what the Westach tack looked like and its plastic case, the other shows the backside of the tach after it was completed, with the nice brass case. I did spend a lot of money on the guages, but I when I started the project I said to myself there were two things I wanted to fix really nice, one was the gauges, and the other the engine. I don't have funds to do the whole truck really nice, but when I am done, it will be a servicable vehicle that is mechanically sound, that is my goal. Edited October 2, 2012 by DollyDodge Quote
HanksB3B Posted October 2, 2012 Report Posted October 2, 2012 That link is going in my Pilothouse Links.doc for sure. Great job! and you seem to have your priorities for Dolly in order. Hank Quote
Young Ed Posted October 2, 2012 Report Posted October 2, 2012 Makes me wish my 39-47 trucks had a spot that could be converted to a tach! Quote
John-T-53 Posted October 13, 2012 Report Posted October 13, 2012 These are beauties (including Hank's contribution). I'd like to do the same thing with the tach conversion. I'm thinking I might want the tach on the speedo side and put the speedo where the speaker is. Lookin' good! Quote

HanksB3B Posted October 15, 2012 Report Posted October 15, 2012 (edited) It's nice not to think about trucks all the time but they are far less high maintenance. Hank Edited October 18, 2012 by HanksB3B Quote
48Dodger Posted October 18, 2012 Report Posted October 18, 2012 That tach looks stock.....are sure that's not factory????? 48D Quote
pflaming Posted October 18, 2012 Report Posted October 18, 2012 Hank, for an English teacher to be caught on a spelling mishap is not cool! One might even call it "techy" :D Quote
