Took FEF down to the family farm yesterday for x-mas card pictures for my parents, 2.5 hours each way and lots of right leg time on the gas pedal. Top speed was 50 MPH, stuck more around 47 or so. Still don't feel comfortable going above 50. Only one hairy spot on the way back when some idiot on their phone decided that the left lane being closed meant she could just try to be in my space (her lane ended).

Meanwhile, enjoy a few pics and videos.

Great shots. I drove my Plymouth to work on Friday and 2 coworkers asked me what happened to my dakota. The concept of driving for enjoyment is just lost on some people.

Mark;

Just rub it in ...... why don't ya? :D

Very cool. I am envious. Can't wait to go on my first long trip.............in my Pilothouse. Hopefully I will be able to do a bit better than 50.

Otherwise it is going to take a long time to get up to Frostbite Falls for a visit. Hopefully it will be ready for the BBQ this next spring.

Chassis and mechanicals are just about done.....Body is 99% down to bare metal......so if I can just keep at it like you did......there is a good chance.

Thanks for the inspirational shots.

Doesn't your truck come with the original cruise control? That little knob called "Throttle"

Looking good!

it does....DANGER DANGER! I'd not trust that JIC something happens!

Yes I wouldn't use it for long periods but I have used it for a minute or two when my foot needs a break during a longer trip. I keep my hand right on the throttle to push it back in if needed.

Great photos and videos Mark. 2.5 hours each way is a fair drive. I'm glad to hear that FEF played nicely. I find that my truck 'Ernie' cruises best at around 50mph on the highway. I had him up to 70 (for a short burst) on the highway last week though with no problems. I bet that the first time driving up the driveway of the family farm was a memorable moment. How cool is your farm neighbour's old push bike! Maybe we'll see photos of your recently acquired trailer in-tow for your next trip?

Mark, Wow the folks place is sure nice. Your truck looks and sounds real good and quiet too.

Hank :)

P.S. Jeff don't worry, I know your truck is going to be awesome too! Even with your spatter paint Pep Boys rattle can finish.

You are just trying to stir up trouble ............again.

First Paul in another post .....now me. Jeez.

You know I like Marks truck........but it is waaaaaay too clean looking for the likes of me. I am still trying to figure out exactly how best to proceed with the paint...........but I do know I require something sort of scruffy looking.

Jeff,

What's wrong with one of the newer types of primer? Best of both worlds doesn't require a high level of finish and, acts as a rust deterrent. Have you ever checked out these guys http://www.tcpglobal.com/. I'm sure you'll figure something out.

My mate Vic painted his car with a brush. He did sand it down a little afterwards to get rid of the brush strokes though. He calls it a 20 foot car - because it looks good from about that distance! It's used for display purposes at his old diner. He has plenty of other Mopar cars there.

I just sprayed a couple fenders today using TCP's Restoration Shop base coat. I'm pretty sure I'm going to like this stuff. Lays on good and flows out nice, covers well. Easy to use, just a 2 to 1 mix with the reducer, no activators required. As long as it's sealed up tight, it has an indefinite pot life. I'll see how their clear coat goes tomorrow.

No shopping whatsoever. The paint came with the project, the project isn't Dodge and isn't a truck and it's Mark's thread so I probably shouldn't post pics of it. Comparing it's online price to over the counter econo lines and adding the shipping, it still has a favorable pricing advantage. I've bought HOK from them in the past and found them to to have the best pricing by a wide margin for a specialty paint the owner requested.

That trip home has to be the highlight of the build. I can only imagine the excitement and anticipation of that return trip. From having to haul it out to it's return looking as it did the first time it pulled into that driveway years ago is quite the transition. Congratulations, Mark and thanks for taking us along on the journey.

it was exciting/nerve wracking and fun all at once! If not for a ton of help from lots of people here (yourself a huge part) this never would have happened!

Very nice looking 1 ton. What is your rear axle ratio? The standard ratio was 4.30. Optional was the rare 3.91 and pulling power 4.89. Short of going to taller tires which would be hard given the wheel wells of the truck, finding the rare 3.91 would be the way to go if you want to get some more speed and lower lower the RPM's on the venerable 230. You could also install a 4.10 ratio found on the Funtional Design and Power Gaint series trucks 1954-59, although it wouldn't lower the RPM's as much as the 3.91 would. :(
