Todd Bracik is about to get his D-24 rolling. When he started the engine, the pressure gauge pegged, and broke the needle. Pressure has been measured at 100 PSI. Can the oil pump be repaired. The engine sat for 10 years after an overhaul before being started. Todd also needs a D-24 oil gauge.

Also Wanda and I are considering a P-15 run in the Michigan to Michigan Great Race. Bob

Bob he's probably got an issue with the pressure relief valve.

+1 to that.

The oil pump should put out sufficient volume for the worst conditions which is too much for most of the time, so the pressure relief valve dumps the excess back into the pan. If it has been sitting a long time, maybe the plunger on the relief valve has gotten stuck.

My son Brian, vocational auto teacher and Chrysler automatic transmission man, went to Todd's last night and used a 9/16 tap as an easy out, to extract the plunger. Polished it. Problem fixed. Todd is happy. Bob

Aw Crap now we've done it , Problem stated, problem diagnosed, problem illustrated, technique for repair forwarded, beverage for break recommended, problem solved and acknowledged. All in one thread.

This could start something we could have no control over. Be careful out there fellows.

Other than my dislike for the recommended beverage its a good trend.

Thanks all for the quick responses and advice with the d24! Turned out it was just a dirty and stuck valve. After cleaning the valve and spring up, we put it back together and oil pressure was fine. We celebrated with a couple pints of pale ale flavored with galaxy hops from a local microbrewery I work at here in Indy. It made the victory all the more sweet or bitter due to the hops.

Nothing like a good beverage, after a job well done, just as stated above!

No milk and cookies for me, just good beer!

Scottish Arms in StLouis.

Ah-ha-ha! Don, my favorite pub! (Don joined me there a couple of years ago for my 60th birthday while he was in town!) I just made reservations there for New Year's eve. We get there around 5 pm. At 6 pm (central time) it is midnight in Scotland at which point everyone toasts the New Year and sings Auld Lang Syne. We then have out dinner and are home by 8 pm thereby avoiding all the crazies!

A shot of Lagavulen with a Bellhaven Scottish Ale chaser and the braised lamb shank! Mmmmm.... I'm drooking just thinking about it!

Don, what pub is that out of?

This will get you to the tech manual about oil.... http://www.imperialclub.com/Repair/Lit/Master/015/Page01.htm

This will get you to a huge selections of tech manuals... http://www.imperialclub.com/Repair/Lit/Master/index.htm

That is a great resource for our cars!

I actually almost missed it. I haven't been on here for a few weeks. I've put Bluebelle to bed for the winter and the project that has been consuming my time lately is building a bamboo fly rod.

Of course, I should just keep up with things anyway... my bad;)

Jim, we'll have to try to hook up sometime. I'm about 100 miles south of you in Cape. Road trip in the '47!

Cheers!

Sounds good but I don't have the confidence in Bluebelle to travel that far. However, should you ever find yourself in the 'Lou, let's get together.
