ggdad1951
Well, it as bound to happen sooner or later, but I put my first paint chip and scratch on FEF....I was poking around between the garage wall and truck and had a tape measure clipped in my back pocket...you got it....hit the rear fender with the hook....so mad at myself and crabby...have to wait till spring to deal with it now.... pflaming
Just called it faux patina and enjoy the truck. Great looking 3/4 ton. They are not supposed to look that good.
52b3b Joe
I can't believe you made it this far without one! That in itself is impressive to me. I have a few chips and scratches from trying to put it back together. I have a huge scratch on the bottom of the hood, but I'm not too worried about it cause I don't think I'll have it open all too often. I put a couple chips on the door edges when putting them on and fitting them. I'm SURE I'll have some on the bed when I get to installing that. Time to breakout the leftover paint and a tough up brush!
Desotodav
I put a few minor scratches on mine when messing around installing stuff. I think that the Panel Beater expected it as he invited me back for some touch-up work once I had the rebuild complete. I sympathize with you though Mark as it's not a good feeling! I'm sure that the old FEF will be back up to high standard again soon.
48Dodger
Did you get some touch-up paint from Dave? Might wanna put a dap of color in there to seal it up if its gone down to primer. Gotta keep the cooties out and stop any potential lifting. 48D

Dave72dt
Yes he did, red, black and clear coat with activators. Bring the scratch up to surface level or just above with the paint, one layer at a time, then sand with 1000 grit, brush on a couple layers of clear, sand level with the 1000, then 1500 and 2000 and buff. pick some warmer days this winter and it can be ready to go by spring
ggdad1951
no paint today...will have to wait till tomorrow when the stores are open. psst Paul, FEF is a 1 ton...
Dave72dt
That was a Chrysler black, can probably get that in a touchup kit.

Jeff Balazs
Bummer. I can just imagine how you felt when that happened. You better do something quickly before the paint cooties get at it. Jeff

52b3b Joe
I think that's the gas tank! By the way....you must have it down to a fine tuned operation turning your truck to a right hand drive vehicle! You did it in 32 seconds! I couldn't resist... Dave72dt
Went to the official product website and I see FEF is the headline video. Went through a lot of the videos and was well impressed with the presentation and the product.

ggdad1951
YoungEd came over tonight and we dropped the tank so I can get the leaks fixed.....blech....HATE siphoning gas!
Jeff Balazs
Jeez Mark I thought you were a bright guy....?.....siphoning is no big deal with the right set up. All you need is a siphon bulb for an outboard motor and some fuel line. Easy, safe and no unpleasant aftertaste. Honestly.......you can wind up in a hospital or worse sucking on gas like that. Go stand in the corner!!! Jeff

As Ed said, there are better ways, but I've never really had to siphon before and (hopefully) will never again! A good beer after made me feel better. pflaming
Old farm method: push the siphon hose into the source tank til the hose is full, then put your thumb over the end of the hose, quickly pull the nose out and with the end of the hose below the source tank, release your thumb. The motion of the tube will pull the fluid and it will continue to flow when you take your thumb off. Just one thing: drink the beer AFTER you get the fluid moving not before!

You have lead a sheltered life. Paul's method....... while a good one ....... won't work in all cases. You can't always make the situation work with the existing conditions. Those little outboard motor siphon bulbs are much more versatile. A good 10$ addition to most tool kits. I worked with a fellow years ago who died from doing this the wrong way. Got a slug of fuel in his lungs and no one was around to call for an ambulance. I did it myself many times when I was younger........usually out in the desert after we had exhausted all the fuel we hauled out for our dirt bikes......and then resorted to siphoning from our trucks for just one more ride. That was in the days before cell phones and GPS. If it had gone wrong it would have been ugly. I am a bit more cautious these days. You know things must be radically different these days? I don't ever remember taking or drinking any water the entire weekend on those trips. Jeff
