I'm finding myself redoing a lot on this truck.

I think my suspicions are correct about this truck.

The restoration was started by someone that was doing it right & then something happened to him.

Divorce? Died? I don't know but whoever got this thing ready to sell was not worried about doing it right!

I've found motor mounts with no bolts (!OMFG!) cab bolts with no nuts, the gas filler tube had no hose clamps.

It looks like it sat outside for a while with the engine unprotected, I had a leaky water pump & when replacing it I stripped some stuff off the engine so I could do some touch up painting, when I removed the thermostat housing the neck above the thermostat was full of a thick red gunk that wouldn't let the thermostat open. I guess the bypass was all that was cooling the truck!

The latest thing is my brake problem.

The front brakes & master cylinder are all brand new but the rear wheel cylinders were old grimy & leaking, when I went to pull the rear drums the nuts were only hand tight & the hubs came off by hand.

Thank the lords of Cobol all the shiny parts were done by the guy doing it right, I can handle all the oily bits!

I'll be going over everything very closely when finishing (& redoing) the restoration.

It was 110 and above for a couple of weeks straight, it was like a convection oven so not much got done outside!

But it cooled down to 95 so while moving stuff in the garage I finished going thru the boxes that came with the 51 parts truck.

Mostly stuff I knew was there (not much!) but I did find an original set of tailgate chains & driver & passenger side visors!

Also I found a mount I don't know what it is.

It's a 2 piece mount any ideas what it's from?

Finally getting around to putting in the black grill on my truck.

Got a surprise when I pulled the grill bars, they are Stainless!

One is banged up but may be salvageable IF I can find someplace that repairs/restores stainless.

I have a set of stainless eyebrows already so all I need now are stainless parking light surrounds for a complete set!

As usual there are some repairs to make but I think the black grill is gonna look great!

Off to find new hardware tomorrow, hopefully this nice weather holds & I don't find too many more surprises!

Try Dave Stromberg at Fat Fendered Relics. I know he fabricates new stainless parts and I think he can repair old parts too.

I checked the web site & it looks like they may be a place to check out, thanks for the info.

In case your wondering this is the reason it took so long to install the black grill, I just got the cast zinc grill medallion back from chrome shop.
