OT - Voted during lunch today

No, not the election with all those politicians spending huge amounts of money to sling mud at one another on TV.

This election was at the local hardware store where I was looking for a drill chuck that would thread onto a 1/2-20 fitting for a project at home. No need to be fancy so I grabbed the cheaper one that needs a chuck key. Then I noticed that it had "made in China" on the back of the package in small print. So I looked at the back of the packaging for the fancier key-less chuck at nearly twice the price. "Made in USA". Bought the expensive one even though the cheap one would have been more than good enough for my needs.

I prefer the chucks that use a key as I have had better luck with them over the years. But I also prefer made in USA products.

..I bought a brass tee connector last week at a UAP/NAPA store.Paid more than I thought it was worth,got it home,opened the plastic see through packaging backed with cardboard marked as NAPA and on the back of the connector, (which wasn't visible when in the package,it was embossed "China".Somewhat annoying,given the price I paid for the fitting.

Fortunately,the fitting was heavy enough and I removed the embossing before installing

on my Canadian built car. - maybe a little silly,but I did it

It is very hard these days to not purchase products that are made off-shore, and of course as earlier mentioned, some manufactures are very sneaky where they put the country of origin...

Several years ago my grand daughter told me she knew where babies came from, I asked her where? She told me that babies came from China. I did not pursue the subject with my granddaughter, I asked my daughter in-law where Sammy would have gotten such an idea?

My daughter in-law said that Sammy had asked her where babies came from? Being a modern woman she told her daughter all about the making of babies and how after nine of being in the mommies tummy the baby came out of the vagina.

Of course a four year old only heard what she wanted to hear and in her mind, vagina was the same as China...

Using it as a cheap three jaw chuck on an old Sears Craftsman metal lathe for some small (less than 1/2" diameter parts). It would be nice to have a real three jaw chuck for the lathe but that costs a lot more. Actually it would be nice to have a quality metal lathe but that costs more and takes even more room than I have.

I prefer keyed chucks my self. I can never get the keyless chucks tight enough, and then when I want to loosen I sometimes struggle to get'em loose. Haven't had much luck finding one. Maybe I should get two at Harbor Freight and go with that? I've never quite understood how a keyless chuck is a desirable option, I put it in the same category as California emissions and seat belt warning chimes.

The keyless chuck I have on my dewalt drill works great I've never had any trouble with it.
