greg g
Beautiful day for a drive, went to the Grand Finale cruise in, close to 400 cars, had real low batteries in the camera and there wasn't much MOPAR related. So I stopped on the way home for some Glamor shots. figured Bob D was posting fall shots so why not, not much color yet, need a frost to jump start the change. Bob is a Central New York Expatriate so I wonder if he recognizes the location. Did 135 miles on 7.1 gallons of gas (19 mpg)
1940plymouth
Caz Lake just before the light to turn right towards Manlius? By the way, we had a good frost here this morning Good photos and thanks for sharing

1940plymouth
Fred and Troganin, I have lived in many different areas of NY State, other than the western end of the state. To me, Central NY has the most beautiful scenery there is in the state, Rt 20, where Greg was parked, runs east and west. It really has some beautiful scenery with rolling hills and flat farm land. My favorite is heading east towards Albany near Cherry Valley looking off towards the north, seems as if you can see forever. My thoughts, Bob
greg g
What is very unusual in the pics is the absolute lack of clouds ad the color of the sky. For any one trevelling east or west through NY, I would recommend you get off I 90 (the NY Thruway) and take Rt 20 which parrellels 90 and its free. Many sections have been over the years been designated as Most Senic Highways. Lots of little towns and villages, very little traffic. Even has some hills and curves. It's the northern version of Rt 66, and is the longest road in the US. basically within 2 miles of an Ocean to Ocean highway. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/U.S._Route_20 Edited October 5, 2010 by greg g
48P15Annie
Cool shots of a great looking car! I love a black business coupe. That car really speaks to me somehow...
Niel Hoback
Its a really sharp looking car, and the scenery just makes it better. The pictures on this forum are the best fringe benefit.
Big_John
Having grown up in the Syracuse area, I never realized just how nice it is around here until I was grown and saw a bit more of the country. The winters are tough to deal with, but the other three seasons make it worth it. I live about 5 miles away from Rt 20 west of Syracuse. TodFitch
...snip... but the other three seasons make it worth it. ...snip... If I recall correctly, the running joke when I was a student in Rochester was that there were three seasons: The rainy season, the snowy season and the 4th of July (which could fall on any arbitrary day between the middle of April and the middle of October). I've always thought that the rest of Upstate NY was the same. I guess that is still more seasons that we get here in the SF Bay Area. There really are only two seasons here. Don Coatney
My driveway and two sons taken when I lived in Varysburg, NY on RT 20A, 1992. I dont miss this snow period!
greg g
Simplified 2 season description, winter interupted by 3 months of poor sledding. But no shakey, no slidey, no wild firey, no ponsinous snakes, or spiders, No twisters, very few hurricanes. And most of the snow is gone by mother's day, and only 3 of 4 days of 90+ temps during the poor sledding season.
gillettealvin
Very nice pictures, all. My first company, (Borden Chemical,) transferred us from my native MA was to Upstate NY in 1969. My sales territory covered from Rochester east to the VT line, the Southern Tier, and north to the Canadian border. I was headquartered in Syracuse where we rented a house near the University for six months, then bought a home in Fayetteville. I spent a little over two years there, and although the winters were pretty bad, I never met more friendly down to earth and caring people. I don’t miss the weather, but I often miss the folks and their simpler way of looking at life. I think our famous “Midwestern” values start in Upstate NY. JMO. Just to stay on topic, (sort of,) here are a couple of pics of my project '36 P-2 Coupe, way back then. . . GA
Merle Coggins
The 2 seasons around here seem to be Shovelin' Season and Swattin' Season. Or I've also heard it as winter and construction seasons. Merle
38plymouth
I'm born and raised in the Finger Lakes and hated snow and winter with a passion. Until last year. We bought a couple of snowmobiles and now it's my favorite season, snowmobiling in Old Forge is probably my favorite thing to do now. busycoupe
Here are a few shots from the eastern part of route 20. Route 20 in Massachusetts is called "the Boston Post Road." These shots are from Longfellow's Wayside Inn in Sudbury, along the old route 20 alignment. The Inn and several other buildings were restored in the 1930's by Henry Ford. Several of the buildings were moved to the area, but the Inn is original and dates from 1716. My wife and I had great fun driving around. Lots of people waved, when we stopped several people came over to admire the car. You don't see many old Dodges around any more. The first picture is the Wayside Inn, next is the schoolhouse from the poem "Mary Had a Little Lamb", next is a restored gristmill, finally, I picked up an old style water decal in their country store gift shop. busycoupe
Thanks! I really get a kick out of seeing everyones cars in different locations. I never realized that route 20 went coast to coast. Now we have pics from route 20 in Massachusetts and New York. It would be great to get old Mopars on route 20 all across the country! How about it guys?
Charlie Olson
These cold weather photos make me real happy I now have an old, new Bunsen Auto Motor Heater, for when the cold weather gets here, to Arizona. This is exact picture of the heater I received, as a gift: http://www.lampguild.org/QandApage/archives/Q0002445.htm Now, where is that Kerosene???? Niel Hoback
I thought it sounded like fun to see if others would post pictures along US 20, so here's mine. the first is on the north side at the corner of Lake and Porter county line road. the rest are in the Dunes National Lake Shore which borders on US20 in Porter County. Sorry, no dog to pose.
