Last day of winter...first ride of "spring"...

Beautiful day here in Western Pennsylvania...around 67 degrees and sunny. Our dirt roads have dried up, but not yet become dusty...and I was itching to take out the car.

I charged the battery yesterday and got it re-installed and started in about a half hour. Took it out for a medium drive and warmed everything up. So far so good...just great to have the old machine out again...

This is year #2 for me as an old car owner...after many years of wishing. Let's hope for a nice dry & long summer.

Anybody else recently take a car out after a few months in storage?

My wife had a VIP hardtop of this same 66 Plymouth when we married in 1974. It was a boat but rode nice.

I love wagons, especially when their as nice as that one. I'd like to have a 4dr hardtop that model.

2 days ago I had a 60 mile drive with the 47, it was around 45 outside. Last night after work took a 10 mile drive, and it was cool outside about 25, turned on the heater box and enjoyed the fun..........

Claybill...I'm about 45 minutes south of Indiana. Not that many miles, just not a straight shot...all 2 lane roads for the most part. I'm a salesman and I deal with some customers there. Still a nice place...in case you hadn't been back in a while.

I'm hoping for no more snow but it's not looking good. A Farmers almanac forecast has been going around this year calling for our final snow of the season to be on April 12.

None the less, I think I'll try and plant some onion sets tomorrow.

And maybe sneak out the Plymouth one more time...if the rain holds off until I'm done with my house stuff.

It was nice here two weekends ago and I was able to get the Plymouth and the Chebby truck started. Let them both run a while. I didn't feel like uncovering them both to take them out for a drive. Hoped to do that the last two weekends, but it has rained here. Also hoping to get some new tires for the Plym before I take it out too far. Had these tires on the car for 10 years and they are starting to dry rot. I'm done doing any body work or paint work on the car for a while so no need to risk it. :)

Ready for a long, dry summer as well.

The brakes are done, new (to me) radials and finally ready to go for the first run. 45F here in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Supposed to snow tonight, won't last long, but nice enough that I can go for the first drive. Our antique club is volunteering at the local Hot Rod (Draggins)club car show at Easter and my plan is drive it to the show and park outside. If it is nice there is quite often as much to see in the parking lot as at the show itself. (cars in progress, etc.)

THREAD AMENDMENT!!!

pLEASE NOTE, Anybody posting further first drive announcments without pictures, will be assessed penalty points, based on age of vehicle lenght of drive and ambient temperature.

We will give TJM70's_48 a break since he started the thread, And we'll let Rockwood slide as he had posted a couple pics in an earlier thread, but the rest of you guys, lets get with the program please.

For example a 47 car at 50 degrees for 25 miles would be 94 demarits based on year X temp / miles..............................

Niel nice looking gray coupe, thanks for the pic.

Hold on Greg! I drove my car for the first time this year this past Friday evening when I took Lisa out to eat. My car was (and still is) covered with dust as I have not been home long enough to clean it in the past several months. I also did not have to charge the battery as it started up after a few short bursts of cranking the starter. My car ran great and we had a very enjoyable meal. I did stop and got some fresh gasolene in the tank. I was gonna take pictures BUT the battery in my camera died.

How many penelty points is this first drive worth?

Whew I passed without knowing it. My truck comes out of storage on the 29th and I'll be bringing the coupe home from storage either the weekend before or after that.

I did an homage to Norm Milliner and did not remove the cover or leave the driveway.

This years maiden trip has not yet been consumated. Still a lot of Salt dust out there.

Yikes...I was so excited to just get the car out & checked out on a ride...it never occured to me to take any pix!

Ever wonder why none of the dust blows off when you drive?

I didn't drive it, but yesterday was really nice so I pushed the Plymouth out of the shop so I could paint some parts without getting spray on the car. Made sure I pushed it back in, too. Good thing- it poured today!

I started mine while it's sitting in the garage.

Started on the second attempt by using the "Coatney Method"

We had about 6" of snow during Sat and Sunday, but now it's

melting and streets are pretty much clear.

Alright I got the car out today with temps close to 70 degrees. Drove it over to a friends house after work. About 20 miles one way. I've been wanting to get it up in the air in his garage and check the front suspension to see what it needs and what is worn out.

Looks like I'm gonna end up rebuilding most of the front suspension. It needs kingpins and bushings are worn out. Figured might as well buy a front end rebuild kit and do what I can while it's apart. I'm wanting to buy new tires, but that is going to be a waste of money with worn front suspension parts. Checked tie rods and all out and everything is real tight and no issues there. Got lucky there I guess. I'll be ordering a kit soon and will try to post some pics of the progress.

Otherwise this is only the third or fourth time I've got to drive it since adding the OD. I didn't get it put in until the end of October and then winter came. I have to say the OD and the 12 volt conversion has got to be the best mods I have done to my car. It drives so smooth and quiet now at 60mph. Well worth all the work.

Sharing a few pics of the drive, etc. Enjoy, I hope spring is finally getting here.
