Robert Horne Posted October 13, 2009 Report Posted October 13, 2009 I bought my new Chevy Van in November 1979, my pair of 38 Plymouths in 1986. My Uncle bought his 36 Plymouth in 1957 from my older Uncle. Quote
Normspeed Posted October 14, 2009 Report Posted October 14, 2009 I guess my 86 Bronco is the longest for me. I've owned it for something around 10-12 years. Still runs great and makes a decent tow vehicle for the boat. The Plymouth, around 6 years. I hope to keep the old P24 for the rest of the trip. Quote
JIPJOBXX Posted October 14, 2009 Author Report Posted October 14, 2009 There sure is lots of love here for personal cars! I know I have become attached to my Old Dodge and probably will never sell it. I have talked to the Le-May folks over in Tacoma and told them I would like them to have my car when I pass on or when the time is right. I figure that way the car will not be put away in someone personal collection but will go to a museum where it will be seen and enjoyed by other car enthusiast around the world. Quote

That's what we did with my father in laws 1917 Crow Elkhart back in 1989. Neither one of us had room to store it after my mother in law passed away. Did not want to sell the car, so it was put on loan to the Hartford, WI Auto Museum. Has been there ever since. Will stay there as long as one of us are alive. We may end up donating it all together when we pass along. Quote

greg g Posted October 14, 2009 Report Posted October 14, 2009 Note for folks who might consider loaning their vehicles to a Museum. They are usually reasonable folks to deal with as far as accepting the loan. It is however incumbant on you as the owner to keep tabs on your property. Some museums will loan stuff to other institutions, will they notify you of that if it happens? What happens if the museum changes managment and is sold to another entity or goes out of business. Or has a surplus items auction? Make sure you cover those contingencies before you or your survivors turn over the keys. I have heard stories of stuff "on Loan" disappearing over they years. Quote
Norm's Coupe Posted October 14, 2009 Report Posted October 14, 2009 Greg, I guess that could happen. But.......they can't sell the car without the title. We've had the one mentioned in the museum for 20 years now. They may move it to a different location from time to time inside the museum, but it's always there. We also keep the insurance up on the car. In addition, we do make a donation to the museum each year. That's not required, but we figure it's worth it to have a nice safe storage place, plus they keep it looking nice all the time. We can also take it in and out if we want to. Some people do that with their cars, but we have never taken this one out since we put it in there. Can't worry about everything, it'll drive one nuts. Let's face it, someone can take your coupe when you aren't home and sell it too, without your permission. Quote
55 Fargo Posted October 14, 2009 Report Posted October 14, 2009 As mentioned before, 47 Chrysler bought in 1988, 2005 Dodge Caravan bought July 2004. Quote
kevinanderson Posted October 14, 2009 Report Posted October 14, 2009 My '35 Ford 5w coupe has been in the family since Nov of '57. My Dad bought it from a spinister's estate. I still have a copy of the sale bill listing the car. And the son of the selling dealer(the son was in his 90's when he passed.) Gave me a copy of all the cars they sold in '35, showing the coupe being sold to the spinister. The car has always been in Oakland, where it was sold new. Quote
dezeldoc Posted October 14, 2009 Report Posted October 14, 2009 I have had my 37 Ford P/U since 83, and my P-15 since 95. Quote

Cool old Truck Reg. would like to find a cab up here like that, I have a 1955 Fargo 1/2 ton chassis with engine, trans, diff, rolling, flathead runs great on it, just need a Cab and box for it, at least,a cab, could make a cool flat bed for it. Oh one day!. Hey you ever get this camper out on the freeway, or did you just stick to the small highways with it, what is the cruising speed in this old girl......Fred Quote
Reg Evans Posted October 14, 2009 Report Posted October 14, 2009 Oh. I never went more than 55 MPH in it Fred. I built it with 1 x 2 studs and 1/4" plywood to keep the weight down. The longest trip we ever took was about 25 miles 1 way and that was on winding mountain roads and climbing about 1500' in elevation. I did have a 1.5 ton 251 installed under the hood for a little more power. That engine now resides in my 52 1/2 ton Old Yeller. Too bad you aren't closer. I have a nice 1/2 ton cab and front end group I wouldn't mind saying goodbye to. Quote
