Don Coatney Posted June 24, 2009 Report Posted June 24, 2009 I got an e-mail from a member of the local Hot Rod Club telling of a pilot house truck for sale. This morning I went to look at it. Pictured below are the results. The guy said he wanted a thousand for it. I told him scrap value was all it was worth. Quote
1949P17BC Posted June 24, 2009 Report Posted June 24, 2009 Did you also let him know you would take a check to haul it off. Too many guys have been watching Barret Jackson. Quote
grey beard Posted June 24, 2009 Report Posted June 24, 2009 Don, Looks like it's turning back into top soil - you'd need a chain saw to find out what you have. Bet it'd make a good parts truck for anyone whose restoring one. As such, it'd be worth a hundred or so. If it had usable sheetmetal parts like mebby doors or tailgate, it'd be worth three or four times that, JMHO. If it's in Tennessee or other eastern states, it's likely very rusty. Now the same hulk in say, AZ or MT might still have some value, since stuff just don' rust at the same rate of speed. AND, last but surely not least, if you got up early and went to see a Pilothouse truck for sale, your heat's surely in the right place, even for a "car" guy! Congratulations on your good MoPar taste! 48Dodger Posted June 24, 2009 Report Posted June 24, 2009 I say we take up a collection and help Don get a truck....I mean, I'd pay to see that. lol. There's no denying your Mopar blood Don, just knowing you'all went to "look" at a truck made me smile. Guess it's only fair I should go see what the P-15's are all about. 48D Quote
Allen I. Posted June 24, 2009 Report Posted June 24, 2009 Looks like the yard I frequent. Looking is fun. Making anything useful ... not so much. All the little stuff (badges, knobs, glass, bumpers) might be worth pulling off. Is that a tailgate in the back? Rear bumper might find a taker.... You have to look at those in early spring when it is dry and leaves have not appeared or in the fall after a frost or two. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted June 24, 2009 Report Posted June 24, 2009 Don need something to haul that shine in..he is on his third set of leaf spring in the P15...wait a minute..I was supposed to keep shut about that... Quote
JJs 1948 Posted June 24, 2009 Report Posted June 24, 2009 Shame to see that rear bumper go to waste if it's an original. How about the locking gas cap? Quote
Vintrader Posted June 24, 2009 Report Posted June 24, 2009 That'll buff out. Yep, a little WD40 and some Duct Tape and she's a driver........ Quote
Vintrader Posted June 24, 2009 Report Posted June 24, 2009 I also love when I see this line in a For Sale Ad............ ......................................RAN WHEN PARKED................................. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted June 24, 2009 Report Posted June 24, 2009 I also love when I see this line in a For Sale Ad..................................................RAN WHEN PARKED................................. actually it is backwards..they parked it and ran...!! Quote
Reg Evans Posted June 24, 2009 Report Posted June 24, 2009 I'd pay $150 for that rear bumper and brackets if it's not smashed. Quote
greg g Posted June 24, 2009 Report Posted June 24, 2009 Don already has a truck something with a 150 in it. Being as I just fir in the Studebaker, I think Don might have some clearence problems in a Pilot house. Or any older half ton. Quote
Young Ed Posted June 24, 2009 Report Posted June 24, 2009 Not quite that simple of a bumper Norm. And the brackets would be hard to make too. Quote
tinlizzy Posted June 24, 2009 Report Posted June 24, 2009 Hey Don, Where is the truck? Close to you? Sounds like a good parting out project. I could use the radiator if it is good and what kind of grill did it have? Steering wheel looks good and it has a horn button which I need. If speedo and gauges are good more parts. I need a good set of doors too. I live 30 minutes east of Knoxville. How close to me? Lee Quote

grey beard Posted June 25, 2009 Report Posted June 25, 2009 (edited) Any of you car types looking for a nice project, younger brother has a 52 Desoto sedan, original paint, very nice bright work, excellent woodgrain dash, good original useable upholstery and headliner. Located in south central PA (near Gettysburg). Motor is stuck but soaking. Car is complete, and he is asking $3,000. Not too bad a start for a nice project, if Desotos turn your crank. AND he may have it freed up already. After all, it's only money, and I've never seen a Brinks truck following a hearse. What would you rather see your wife auction off after YOUR funeral then one of these sedans:eek:? P.S. Did I mention that engine is just LIGHTLY stuck . . . . . . ? Young Ed Posted June 25, 2009 Report Posted June 25, 2009 I thought 61 was the last year of desoto? Quote
Don Coatney Posted June 25, 2009 Author Report Posted June 25, 2009 P.S. Did I mention that engine is just LIGHTLY stuck . . . . . . ? Lightly stuck? Is that the same as just a little pregnant? Quote
old woolie Posted June 26, 2009 Report Posted June 26, 2009 I thought 61 was the last year of desoto? Yes it was. Why do you ask? By the way, that truck looks better than the stuff that gets pulled out of the fields and woods around here. Quote
Young Ed Posted June 26, 2009 Report Posted June 26, 2009 Grey beard initially posted a 62 desoto for sale. It was a typo he meant 52 Quote
JJs 1948 Posted June 26, 2009 Report Posted June 26, 2009 A couple weeks ago I had a new key made for my 48 truck passenger door lock. For $20 they made a key to match the lock. I did not have a key for the lock that they could copy. Extra keys were $1.79 each. I don't think that is too expensive and this is from a very good locksmith business. Quote
