business coupe verses 5 passenger coupe

Hi, I am new to the forum, I purchased a 46 plymouth business coupe and need to know what body parts interchange on these old plymouths. The 5 passenger coupes seem to have a different roof line and quarter windows. But the fenders look the same as do the front ends and doors, Is the trunk lid the same? What years are the same. Thanks Joel, Greensburg Pennsylvania

My recollection was that the business coupe had a single bench with good access to the back through larger doors and a longer trunk lid. It was for the traveling salesman, Fuller Brush and Watins Products. A neighbor / rancher used one for his 'tool' car instead of a pickup.

A five passenger coupe was just that as differienciated from a "Tudor Sedan" which was for six passengers, i.e., a sedan.

My recollection is that the business coupe ceased in about 1955. Pictures of each style would be nice.

Hi Joel. The Bus Coupe body is unique. Converts were made from reworked Bus Cpe. bodies also. The Deck Lid fits only Bus Cpe,but can be used on a Convert by changing the hinge bolt plates to the outer set of holes that are punched in the inner panel. This naturally would work in reverse-- A convert Deck to a Bus Cpe. Front fenders are all the same. Back fenders likewise EXCEPT for Station Wagons. The rear window on Bus Cpe is flat and on Club Coupe is curved. Hope all this helps. Welcome to the Forum. Frank M.

Here is a shot of my business coupe. The bus cpe doors are slated forward at the b pillar and thc club cpes are nearly straight up. The quarter windows onthe bizzy are also smaller.

Thanks for the information, my car is rough and has been converted into a rat rod, so alot of the original parts are gone. I am going to put the body back to a orginal look and replace existing drive train (chevy) to mopar small block and make it driver quality. This is my first40's car, done afew 50's alot of 60's and a couple of 70's. It should be fun. Thanks again for the info. Joel

Greg are you sure I always thought the club coupe and business coupes shared doors.

The doors are different.

The P15 Business Coupe has a shorter roofline and a longer trunk than the Club Coupe but the doors are the same.

I checked the Parts List and that confirms Part Nos 976892 (right) and 976893 (left).

Both body styles have the same angled B-pillars.

Hope this info helps.

Robin.

Welcome to the forum. Whatever car you have you will enjoy and be able to find answers to any question. If you can't get an answer, there isn't one. Any pictures of your car?

That black business coupe is as nice as a car can get. You must get a lot of looks when you drive it.

Just trying to keep up with you with your location shots. The WPC shot is from last Sept in detroit at the POC meet, and the one infront of the General Store is in Plymouth Notch VT. at the POC meet 3 years ago. The store was the birthplace of President Calvin Coolidge I believe.
