  1. Hi Norman. The overdrive was availiable on the 8 cyl. Ive never seen one tho. Of course--it would be with a three speed trans.and still be fluid drive. The two barrel carb from Stromberg was first on the 8s, but became hard to get due to heavy orders. Chrysler then made a casting for the easy to get Carters and that also raised it enough so the air cleaner was level. The intake manifold has an accelerator lever with two holes. One for the two barrel and the other for the single. Frank M.
  2. Remove a rear wheel and make sure the push rods dont have any slack between the cylinder piston and the shoe. a lot of manufacturers have different pistons in their cylinders and dont furnish the right length push rod with the kit. I found 5 different length push rods availiable at the parts store. If you used the old ones--that could be your prob. I had a issue with this a while back, and wound up saying a lot of naughty words till I found the problem. Frank M.
  3. The Big Guy wanted you around yet,Bob. We need a balance of good people like you!!!!!!! Frank M.
  4. Well Tim,If thats your story---Stick to it
  5. Very well written Tim----er-----what did it mean. You are totally wrong about this . I have tried to contribute to help people when I think it was needed. I am not here to jump in on every little post that someone lists. As I said before --you cant back up what you said about my not liking modified cars. I like them all. I prefer originals, but you like modified. Thats always been okay with me. In the start of this --I said I had NO trouble with Original brakes. Then all hell broke loose--from one thing to another. Having been involved in this hobby for 30some years, theres never been any part of it I havnt enjoyed. Till Now. I feel I know a bit more about the forum now and shall read it for entertainment only. Frank M.
  6. Where are you coming from tim? I first commented that the brakes on my cars dont need to be changed. Show me where i dissed modified cars----You cant. Formerly I said there was room for both. Look it up. If you and others feel I dont have a place on the forum because i dont agree--maybe I should be outta here Frank M.
  7. To Al Bach Nice post Al. Too bad others cant put their feelings down as tactfully as most. I havnt any problems with what people do to their cars. But Im tired of being called TRAILER QUEEN owner. by those who dont like original cars. I DO! I painted did the body work, engine work and trans and rear axle. From the ground up,on two of them also painted 3 of the four. Interior was done, but installed here and of course chrome plating.I didnt have the money to have it all done by a pro. I dont know where Dons from but the general public doesnt have the respect for cars like the guy that restores his own. course---ive seen some self done that I wouldnt worry about either! Frank M.
  8. Ive been a member for several years now. I dont post unless i really feel my input should be heard. I do read the posts quite often Don, and And many times your retort to members was far less than courtious,--at times even mean. This is something that Ive been sitting on for a long time. I think youve got a mighty short fuse. Sure--some people aak dumb questions, but thats no reason to jump on them as you have. This is a far stretch for me,but if I get banned for this comment, it will be worth it. Your goodbye is meaningless to me Don. Frank M.
  9. Got to ya,didnt I Don. If it wasnt true I probably wouldnt have Frank M.
  10. Come on Tim. I read these posts too. Originals are always getting put down. Trailer Queens. Old man cars stuff like that. I WOULDNT have a car I cant drive on the streets. I NEVER put chains around my cars!!. Whos kidding who. This forum has more modified than original and Ill bet on that. " I encourage people to touch and sit in my car" I would to if I could go to the nearest Grocery store,or NAPA and get another part for my Hybrid Frank M.
  11. I cant understand this sore leg thing. I am now 82 and have taken trips in excess of 600 miles. Most of this done on my old cars in the last 30 years. I just had a knee replacement last Nov. which was bothering me for the last two years. Even then it wasnt bothered from old car driving. Ive got 4 old mopars all 40s, and the brakes are REALLY good. Cant understand what you guys are doing with them. Could it be that a 5' 8" little 184 lb. spaggetti bender like me, has monster muscles in my right leg? Yes---they will NEVER be as easy to the touch as Disc brakes, but come on------ with correct adjustment they are fine. Frank M.
  12. As I said before--TO EACH HIS OWN! Tim--Dont worry about picking on me. I started driving in 47. Not as many panic stops as may be thought. Again,COMMON SENSE! Disc brakes are not Panic Proof! How can I get this thru AGAIN? When I wanna drive a old car---I wanna drive a REAL old car, not a Hybrid ! Ill take my chances with my "DRUMS OF DEATH" Ive found if they are adjusted correctly They can put you thru the wind shield. All they really lack is "CHIC" Frank M.
  13. Everybody to his own. We have a newer Chrysler T&C with MODERN Brakes. If I wanted another car with disc brakes--I would buy another late model car! Sure--They are better, but with common sense,I can drive my 40s models and enjoy what they felt like. I really dont want a new tech. car with a old skin covering it. It just isnt a old car,and We like old cars. Im not trying to say anything to irritate anyone!!!! Just expressing our feelings. Isnt that what this forum is for? Frank M.
  14. If you mean the trim level--the custom has more.
  15. According to the Judging Guide,Carpet first appeared in 54 Belvederes. Frank M.
  16. As we all know---"you cant have your cake, and eat it too". I said before, that I have show cars AND drivers. I enjoy showing and driving equally. The show car owner loves to make his car as close to original as possible. Its a passion! What I dont get is why a driven car owner will knowingly enter his car against a show car and expect anything but what usually happens. You cant drive a car for very long and expect it to look like it just left the factory. Some will say you can, but Ive never seen it, and Im a REALLY OLD DUDE! All shows should have two divisions. Driven and not driven. Doesnt that make sense? Ill say nomore. Frank M.
  17. As long as Ive read this forum ,Ive not heard a Trailered car owner dissing a driven car owner for doing that. I have both drivers AND " Trailer Queens". Why cant we respect both types of owners? LETS LEAVE IT ALONE-----Please!!! Theres nothing constructive about it. I believe the intent of the forum is for fellowship amongst these types of car people Frank M.
  18. Atta boy,Ed Thats the leak prob.
  19. Try Steele Rubber Co. in Denver N.C. Dont have their PH.no. on hand, but they are VERY good. If I find the no., Ill post back. Frank M.
  20. Bob T. That deck also works on a convert. It would be worth it just to be around . Hope you never need it---but good insurance! Frank M.
  21. Been retired since '89. Was a excavating contractor. Dug basements, cleared sites for building, wrecking ,and street removal. Just about anything doable with Caterpillar equipment. Hard to believe Ive been away from it this long, but very grateful for the long retirement period. Ive restored and owned many old cars, and still help my youngest son, who has inherited the "disease" "habit" "interest" "hobby" whatever you call it. I am really thankful for getting involved in this because of the many really great people Ive met and become friends with. I think now that thats been as important to me as the car part of it. I hope i'm getting across with this. It would be hard to imagine life without all the nice people the cars have led me to. Car shows--Swap Meets-places I never would have gone to. Hershey,Iola,POC meets---Patti and I still look forward to. This Forum has given me a lot too. Dont probably jump in as often as I should, but try to when Ive got something to add. Hope it goes on for me to the end of the line---------
  22. If anybody wants one of those power shift knobs--I got a good one, handle and all!. Frank M.
  23. Another tough part to come by, Bob. As Eds pic showed, they are held in by a small nut. Of course, the rubber seal has to be pulled back for installation. A good friend (gone now) , casted some of these in frustration over looking for them. He ran a Machine shop and sent me a couple. His were made of Stainless tho,as the originals were pot metal. They usually got the threaded part twisted off from dirt and whatever buildup. He restored quite a few T&Cs, so whatever the cost--it was worth it. When you get some (I hope),thats a good time to get the frame replated,as they have to be off. Frank M.
  24. aero3113;177972]I have never seen a exhaust manifold with the choke solenoid at the rear ? Thats where they were on Chry. Dodge and De Soto. Frank M.
