The Venerable Slant 6 vs Our Beloved Flathead 6s
classiccarjack replied to 55 Fargo's topic in P15-D24 Forum
I killed the 7 1/4" within a day, hence the reason I needed a 8.75". Then a week later, the 904 went... Then I found the 4 speed. Finding two different driveshafts in one week was the tough one for me! LOL. Would be even tougher now! At least in the early 1990's, junkyard's still had A Bodies in them. No more...- 104 replies

The Venerable Slant 6 vs Our Beloved Flathead 6s
classiccarjack replied to 55 Fargo's topic in P15-D24 Forum
My slant spanks a lot of V-8's... I raced a 5.0 Mustang with a 5 speed at a quarter mile track. I won 2 out of three races on a dare and some $$$ and beer involved. I lost the time slips from this race, which was over 20 years ago! My 1969 2 door Valiant has a 8.75" rear end with 3.73 ratio from US Gear, over .500" lift camshaft(not going to give away the actual specifications), headers I built using Clifford and a vintage set of Edelbrock headers I found, a A833OD transmission, and a Holley 4 BBL. When I raced the car, I had a 465 CfM Holley. For the last decade, I stepped down to a 390 CFM 4 BBL. I think that the 390 is more efficient than the 465, at least according to my spark plugs. But the engine really screamed on the top end more with the 465.... I temporarily put 3.55 gears in the car for now too. The 3.73's are the way to go! So I will be putting them back in at some point. I have earned a lot of respect from naysayers over the years. And I want to see what I can do with a flathead next. So far, the flatheads that I have built have all been stock.... That will be changing soon...- 104 replies

He probably had OE placement controls, and forward controls... My guess. When I worked as a technician at Outpost Harley Davidson in Pueblo Colorado, I seen some interesting custom built bikes out there. It really made me appreciate stock motorcycles. I was there when the evo's were on top of the world. I quit working their after the first year of the twin cam. Some of the lowest paid years of my life, but definitely the most fun I ever had at work. What an experience!

Hi Tim, I usually copy the pictures I want into a folder, then use the free online Image Resizer to shrink the images down to post them easier. Saves a lot of time for posting on eBay too...

After I built my last Harley, it rarely gets ridden. Before I had a family, I rode motorcycles every day! Funny how that works...

Great story Andy! And one of my best friend's from Israel told me a similar tale. If it had 4 doors and a six cylinder, it was a American car! He told me that the US exports were mostly 4 doors. Two doors were either fabricated or extremely rare option. Sounds like Australia is similar.

Thanks for the tip!

He may have to keep digging...

Ever since I was little, I loved cars, trucks, and machinery. My uncle was a Chevy guy, my dad was a Ford guy, and my mom was, and still is, a loyal Dodge gal. My first car was a 57 Chevy. And I have owned many cars, but my love for Mopar grows even stronger in older age. I bought my first Plymouth at the age of 13. It was a 1969 Plymouth Valiant 4 door. Despite my efforts to drive that poor car like it was the "General Lee", I couldn't kill it, my friends couldn't kill it, and it wasn't until I went to serve this nation that the great 1992 Flood claimed her. After returning from the military, I finally found a 1969 2 door, and have had that car for over 20 years. I don't have the time to list the "other" Mopars I have, but I have MANY.... What brought me here was trying to find out more about my 1938 Plymouth. I have been here ever since. It's been a fun ride so far!

I had a blast and my kids did too... I hope that I can make it. -
Are you guys working with Brent McCarthy at Edelbrock? We worked together on revising the 440 heads back in the early 2000's. The first revision was part of my doing... I resolved a coolant weepage issue that earlier B and RB engines had. They made some changes at Edelbrock with machining technique's and the issue is now long forgotten. He is a highly intelligent guy and works well with us common folk...

My wife's gotta be the absolute best :)
classiccarjack replied to 3046moparcoupe's topic in P15-D24 Forum
I would like to add, thank you to my wife too. As soon as I get the new company sorted out with some good help, I can start dedicating time to my projects. Without my wife's patience, my life would be empty for sure. -
Thank you Moparmontana for explaining the purpose of the transmission. Makes sense when you get into the Tremec versions. I helped with designs involving the Keisler kits back in the early 2000's. I put a lot of Tremec TKO kits into Mopar Muscle Cars when I owned my restoration business. Kiesler sold to Silverstate. I get junk mail from them constantly.... LOL

Hi Andyd, Toyota 5 speeds are quite plentiful and very easy to service. They had different gear arrangements too. I always have liked the simple yet ruggedness of the Aisin transmissions. Every time one rolled in with a complaint of it being failed, it ended up being that plastic disc under the shifter handle. I only had to replace abused units that never got serviced(ran until the oil was gone in other words)..... When I lived in Europe, there were a lot of Toyota's there too....

Brought back a pleasant memory. My grandmother used to sing this to me when I was little. I sure miss her. -

Thank you Tim! I really look forward to talking to you again. As a CEO of a life safety company, I understand how getting busy with life, can make it tough to keep in touch with everyone you meet. -
I must ask, why is a modern T5 being used? I am curious because the other choices are vintage. Seems to be a controversial transmission here lately. Not looking to stir the pot... There are so many transmissions out there, I was surprised to hear this as the chosen transmission.

The 1.5 Tons are insanely thick and L-O-N-G.... I am going to replace my damaged 1/2 Ton frame on my 1936 Dodge with a 1.5 Ton Frame. With some careful fabrication, I think that I can pull this off and keep the truck looking proportional. Due to my lack of original parts, it may get a blown 331 or 354 Hemi installed... With a A833... Decisions decisions decisions! LOL It appears that you guys have some great cars and trucks available to build there. I like your doggy too.

Okie dokie, keep me in the loop. My other residence is in Kansas. I go out there several times a year. I can always drag something out....
