  1. Somebody was trying to solve a hot start problem maybe? Thinking gas couldn't boil over into the manifold if leaked out the bowl first.
  2. Not the best car I ever owned, but the same as yours, Radioguy. A 1959 Starchief, 389, 2bbl. The epitome of big and fast. Great ride too. Three of us goofballs got in the trunk laying crosswise, side by side and had room to spare! The first car I broke 100 mph with. Of course it was only 3 or 4 years old then.
  3. Pretty nice place here, the Sleep Inn, almost new. Full of people waiting for I-80 to open East bound. Nebraska is still closed for 50 miles East of the border anyway. I'm glad to have this forum to keep me semi-sane. Its the best I get.
  4. 1965 Lincoln. Power steering pump consists of vanes around the end of the crankshaft under the timing cover. Yes, I tried driving it without power assist, the off to the bone yard with it. Whaddapieceocrap.
  5. A fellow in the lobby just said that everything that falls in Wyoming blows into Nebraska. Thats the problem now, I-80 is closed from Cheyenne to 60 miles into Nebraska. I love it.
  6. If you put two tvs side-by-side, one with a converted signal, and one without, you will see the converter slows down the signal to the tv by about a half second. I do have too much free time.
  7. Help, I'm trapped in Cheyenne Wyoming. Check the weather channel.
  8. I come from a line of Orangemen. Hurrah for good King Billy !
  9. If my antique memory is working,,,,,,,,,, about 50 years ago I had a problem with the clutch pedal working off the shaft and I used the soft "u" clip that goes on the brake shoes. Slip it on and close it up. I don't trust my memory that much except for the clutch pedal hitting the floor and staying there.
  10. 1157 is 12 volt double filament. offset pins.
  11. 54 1/4s will have holes above the tailights for that little fin-like trim thing that 53's don't have?
  12. If you're working on a brand X, then I don't know nuthin bout it. Yer on yer own.
  13. Thats a good starting place. The rotor should be pointing about 7 o'clock. Did you put your finger over the spark plug hole to make sure it was coming up on compression? If so, then yes, the wire that the rotor is pointing to becomes number one. Clockwise around its 153624.
  14. If I remember correctly, the panel is the part of the toe pan that fits across the top of the pedal slots. Its been a few years since I saw it, but others may have the same thing. Pictures would require carpet and padding removal. Maybe in a month or so.
  15. OK, I am forced to stir the pot. I removed a small filler panel from the floor pan of my p-15. and the bottom side was woodgrained just like the dash. It had a raised ridge along one edge and it was grained also, quite obviously stamped after the graining process. I cannot believe defective dashes would be stamped, grained, and then discarded. There is no flat place on the dash big enough to obtain the filler panel. It is much more likely that the dash was grained, stamped, and the punch-outs from the instrument and glove box holes were used to make filler panels.
  16. Do the easiest things first. See that your ignition timing is not too late. It should run good about 5 degrees ahead.
  17. What'll they think of next.
  18. There should be a block casting date below the distributor hole.
  19. Please don't got to any trouble. I always wondered, but removing it from the rear makes sense in the "slap yourself on the forehead" way. Thanks, thats all I wanted to know.
  20. Congratulations Howard, you and the car deserve first place.
  21. All of Indiana observes DST, however Indiana is in two time zones. Five counties in Northwest Indiana and five counties in Southwest Indiana are in the Central time zone. The other eighty-three counties are in the Eastern time zone.
  22. It's time for another of my stupid questions. I have wondered for 40 years, how do you change the bulb after you've done that? All this time I have been ashamed to ask, but there it is.
  23. Try using two copper gaskets stacked?
  24. It sounds like you have a vaccuum leak there. If your idle speed screw is backed all the way out and you still have a fast idle, air is getting in somewhere. That would also account for the need of a choke at any temp.
  25. 3M emblem tape will work on the Special De Luxe bars. Just file the back flat and stick it on.
